not sure I want to be a SD Memory card expert... It would be cool if the cheap SDXC 64gb card worked... i'm using old 8gb cards with 1/3 the speed apparently...

Going for a trip this spring and planning to leave the laptop at home so I can't offload photos/videos as needed

firmware is 1.03...probably not helping

Also, thanks for rapid responses about an old camera

What kind of memory cards work in the K7 and how big can they go?

I just got a sandisk 64GB SDXH UHS-l card and I am guessing it is too new for the camera....

Thanks!

Anyone have experience with photo books across multiple online services?

adorama, mpix, etc? any others I may be unaware of?!

I am curious to the pros/cons of various options, and what others perceive to be the best

Panorama - When to use?

it would depend on the subject and how much time/effort you want to put into stitching images afterward too...

I'm going to hawaii for 2 weeks next monday, and plan to try and score some sweet pano shots to play with later.

as a side thought, a tip I read from another website had this idea I thought was great - if your going to be shooting all day (which I plan to), take a shot of your hand close up before and after the amount of images you want to pano in post processing.. than when your on the PC later you'll be able to easily find them out of hundreds/thousands of pictures

an ac adapter that charges internal the battery while plugged in! Would be very nice while transfering large amounts of images to PC, especially while traveling when battery power may be limited (shooting all day for multiple consecutive days, etc.)

of course an additional battery + grip is similiar, but even than it could be nice to charge both at the same time

Will using an ac adapter charge the batteries inside the camera, either in a grip or the body while in plugged in? or does it simply provide a power source so the batteries are spared?
thanks in advance

lower the price of the D-BG4 battery grip; im sure people would opt for it over third party if the price difference wasn't so drastic.

would it be possible to put two rectangle grad ND filters together in the cokin system, overlapping so the dark section is in the center of the image to create a reverse grad ND effect? or am I crazy for thinking this

I have a sandisk class 10 8gb, works like a charm with the k7... picked up two just for convience sake (read a few people saying the jump to 16gb = a significantly higher fail rate with cards)

they were FAR cheaper through amazon.com than bestbuy!!!!

Soo, the siigma 10-20 will capture at 10 on the k7 (?), but the view finder displays it as a 15? or was I right when I originally stated the 10 is really 15 on the k7 due to the sensor? (thus making the pentax 12-24/10-17 wider)

I am looking to test drive a lens rental during a trip to hawaii before purchasing at a later date - I have the 18-55 kit lens and a few longer/macros to borrow from a family member (gotta love that!!) I think having something to get a little wider than 18mm will be great for certain opportunities

I would love the fov with the 10-17, I'm just not so sure on hwo I feel about the fish eye effect, but after learning about the panorama feature in cs4, it has be thinking I should opt to rent the 10-17 fish eye, and use the 18+ stitching for anything I want wider.. so many potential options!

in the k7, the sigma is really 15mm, not 10mm, due to the sensor (?) Could anyone verify

Many kudos again! I am tempted to rent the wide as I feel it is a lens I would like to buy in the future when money permits -- toying with it some in Hawaii would be fun and surely provide great shots at times

We are going to catch the sunrise on Haleakala the first morning there, as we will wake up very early due to the time differences/jet lag and what not. I wish I had the stomach to handle a chopper tour - Ive heard great things about them from a friend that lived on maui for 10years

:D They say it is one of the best hikes in Hawaii; but I believe the people that usually rate them refer to the whole 11mile trek

Thank you -- this is what I thought, the 3way provided the most flexibility, but after looking at B&H and a few other sites, I am still somewhat confused.

At B&H the 2way panhead is listed at $105, and mentions quick release in the description -- the 3way panhead is $95 with no mention of quick release in the description, but lower on the page it says whats in the box and lists quick release (same with 2way)

Am I correct in assuming the $105 two way is more due to the fact it comes with 2 quick release plates?

Thanks for the replies -- I love your pictures! Hawaii looks so amazing in every image

We are styaing 6nights on Maui (4 in upcountry and 2 in hana) and than 7 nights on Kauai on anini beach front! Very exicited.

You don't think having anything to get wider than 18mm with the kit lens would be beneficial? I am a big fan of landscape/nature photography and hope to do a lot of exploring - I was also thinking the wider angle would be fun to have for a boat trip of the na pali coast line (those cliffs amaze me everytime I see pictures of them)

When it comes to the zoom, there seems to be many possibilities too.. I could opt for the 55-300 (no WR), or the 50-200 (WR), or take a 18-250 (or similiar) and keep the kit lens at home which would be be less to carry but also less to work with -- I would prefer to use the kit lens (since I paid for it) and something that will extend it

Since I will more than likely be renting any lenses outside the kit one, I don't think the WR is going to be a huge factor; if I were purchasing to own I would be far more interested in that -- overall, I feel like everything will be amazing; I can not wait to get out hiking locally to break the kit in before we travel. I'm just trying to weigh in all options and make the best chocie with what little slr knowledge I can gather, the forum here and other sites are very informative

My cousin went to bora bora last year for her honeymoon -- looked like a great place to travel as well

how did things turn out?! I bought myself a k7 on sale recently in advance of my hawaiin honeymoon this june.. I am unsure of what to try and buy/rent outside of the 18-55 kit lens.

I feel like something a little wider and a nice 55-200/300 would be sufficient ... everything is a HUGE step up from the old point and shoot!!
