Unequivocally #15.

If this is not photoshopped, it contains just about every aspect great photography.

My question to the poster is did they stage the shoot?

I give it 5 Stars (if not photoshopped).

This setting invokes a feeling of being 'calm and peaceful.' I can almost hear the rippling of the waterfall coming down the rock cliff into the water, as I contemplate diving into the pristine water and prepare to meditate on the peacefulness of a tranquil moment.

Very inviting and 'serene.' :)

Some very earnest approaches to 'Filling The Frame.'

In keeping with this theme, almost every available area of the roof and walls in #9 are encompassed into the final composure. What is not taken up with windows, walls, and ceilings are softened by the clear blue sky in the ceiling center.

A difficult shot made to look easy.

Very nice. It could easily hang and be right at home in a plush corporate foyer or meeting room.

Geometry.

I know the feeling. I waited almost nine years (since first K10D) for the K3, and it was a major letdown when I took it out of the box it instantly had the 'shutter flutter' attack.

I still use the K10D, and a few other Pentax frames, but I caught your reference to the K3II.

Pentax has the whole wagon riding on the K3!!

They'd better get it right this time around.

If this is ambient light, it has my hands down nomination.

The natural moonlight bathing across the bend in the road in the near foreground and caressing the fall of the hill out into the moonlit fields says "Go Here!"

The subtle, ancient moon glowing through the calm night sky paints the sublime aura of the moon.

Very relaxing, setting up a calm and picturesque feeling of natural harmony between nature (the moon and landscape) and man's journeying through it.

Originally, I was going with a Silver collector's edition of the K-3, but held off due to them having the shutter issue. After waiting six months, the Silver Edition became hard to find, so I went with the black version, which exhibited the shutter problem twice within ten minutes of unboxing.

Ricoh's product support reputation is anything but 'Silver' on the K-3.

Just the facts.

The obvious conclusions with Ricoh closing down Canada and beginning to shift employees out of the camera division to other company divisions are that Ricoh's North American camera sales are not projected to sustain their business.

That would also explain their continued delay in responding to a solution for K-3 owners in the US.

Is it doubtful we will ever see a K-4? Minolta Deja Vu.

This is a phenomenal scene Ansel Adams would take a second look at. What is striking is the near-perfect capture of the early morning light across the entire scene, which requires great luck or great skill.

Detail, depth, grandeur, and wonderful scale and balance. A tribute to the art.

Excellent eye. Gifted really.

Very easily nominated, and worthy of professional printing, IMHO.

Perhaps that approach would have worked a few years ago, but with the INSTANT INFO that prosumers have access to now on product reviews (especially those highlighting poor product support), whatever replaces the K-3 will have a rough start until Ricoh completely resolves existing customer complaints.

DSLR sales are going to continue to dive with smart phone photo imagery and capabilities quickly narrowing the gap and will eventually kill the DSLR. Probably within five years, if not sooner.

Nikon cut its leg off when they released a faulty D600, and even the Chinese government boycotted it on a national level. Talk about a hit!

Ricoh does not view the Pentax camera line as a main income channel, and is quite diversified in markets other than photography, which means it will likely survive the coming global monetary recession.

I don't see a ton of R&D going into new DSLR technology at all since the demand for the products is rapidly disappearing.

It is kind of like the iPad type devices replacing laptops and desktops for their ease of use and lower cost while still being able to perform 90% of all the same functions as the products they replaced.

Canon especially has sold 23% fewer cameras so far in 2013 than at the same point last year. Nikon have sold 18% fewer.
Investors are taking fright. Shares in Nikon who are the most camera orientated of the big manufacturers are down the most; a 33% fall.
Sony and Fuji’s sales are down a huge 35%. Although Fuji’s X line has revitalised interest in the brand from enthusiasts and pros, both company’s have suffered at the low and mid sections of the market.

The 'voltage drop' theory is probably the closest thing that has surfaced yet to explaining the shutter panic.

It has never occurred even once on the K-10D, Kx, Kr, or K30 bodies I use. Not once.

Its looking more and more like Ricoh released the K3 prematurely. The early K3 silver editions were notorious for it.

Crossing fingers for you the 'fix' fixed it.

The K-3 was in repair limbo for nearly 2 and 1/2 months. Completely unacceptable. Continuing to watch this thread out of amazement of Ricoh's failure to address the Pentax K-3 customers. There may never be a K-4 if this keeps up.

I waited six years for the K-3. On paper, it IS the perfect DSLR. These K-3 problems have been addressed not just here, but by now all over the world.

Waiting to address the issues in this thread on Ricoh's part leaves one to conclude several things.

Namely, the problems cannot be rectified via firmware updates. And, even more critical, Ricoh may simply be unable to repair them without a recall or buyback program as Nikon was forced to do with the D600.

For the sake of the conversation (of identifying the K-3 mirror defect), this thread has been successful. It should not be limited to 'one-time' posts, since some of those have questions that need answering, and are best answered (or confirmed) by those experiencing the same issues.

The OP probably could have reworded the 'restriction' with instead of just replying with the error description, to leaving it open for answers and enable more information in attempting to clear up questions by those affected.

It has over 12,000 hits, so it is safe to say the OP has achieved their goal of informing anyone wanting more information about the issue
with what they were looking for.

I see nothing wrong with that.

Your experience of rippling malfunctions (first the shutter motor, then the artifacts, then the loose rubber (seal) is exactly why the K-3 sample that came to me was sent back. It malfunctioned right out of the box, within five minutes producing two instances of uncontrollable shutter. After the 1.03 firmware update, the focus seemed to be losing clarity with fixed primes. With confirmed similar malfunctions found on this forum, there was no other choice but to return it to Ricoh.

If this happens to offend someone, the facts outweigh the sentiments of Pentax brand loyalty, which I have never experienced product failures like this in almost four decades of using that brand.

Best Regards,

Sent the K-3 back because of this issue. Very disappointing, especially since the wait of six years and the K-3 is the Pentax Flagship. Just couldn't stick with the sample that came to me knowing others had up to THREE new exchanges, with THREE consecutive failures.

Will stick with the (very capable) K10-D and K-30 until the K-3 successor is launched several years from now. May go with one of the newer mirrorless platforms before then.

Buy K3 or K5 II's?

The reason I prolonged the K-3 purchase was I originally intended to go with the Silver Edition (with grip). One would think that the only difference between the Silver and Black Editions would be just the exterior finishes. The early Silver Editions had battery grip issues from the onset, so I waited a few months to go with the Black Edition. Apparently I didn't wait long enough. Right out of the box, and within the first five minutes, the uncontrollable shutter defect occurred TWICE.

Not sure if it was the 'luck of the draw,' and not willing to find out, the sample that came to me was returned. It was not an easy decision, since it was a large purchase with three new lenses and had been waiting for the K-3 for several years. The purchase total of over $2,400 was all returned.

This is accurate and true. I had waited through the K7 and K5 for the K-3, to find that Ricoh released a buggy product. These are not small bugs IMO. They really are going to lose points if these defects begin to surface in much larger numbers on the K-3.

Had I seen this more pronounced (e.g., IDENTIFIED) on PF, I would have been warned to wait buying the K-3 until Ricoh finally got it right. I've never heard of a camera recall, but if the K-3 were a car, it would be recalled, or at least the ones having these problems. Ricoh's failure to reach out to K-3 owners is not impressive at all.

The K10D was a revolutionary camera when it was released in 2006, and I have enjoyed mine since early 2007 (along with the K-x and K-30).

I fully anticipated the K-3 to be every bit as precedent-setting as the K10D was seven years ago now, which is why I chose to forego the K7 and K5 series.

Much to my personal surprise, and disappointment, the sample sent to me is unreliable in the areas of shutter failure as manifested in the uncontrollable shutter malfunction. Plus, I'm just as happy with the sharpness output of the older Pentax digital cameras as what the K-3 sample I got was able to produce, which really disappoints in a very regrettable way.

The sample that came to me is going back tomorrow due to the uncertainty that Ricoh will be able to correct and repair the malfunctions described above.

For those who got good samples (and they are in the majority I hope), you really did get an excellent photographic tool and a classic that should perform for years to come.

I will revisit the K-3 later in the fall and in the event this cloud of uncertainty is lifted through (confirmed) firmware updates and will try another one, hopefully.

Best to all of you K-3 users out there :)
