I haven't seen this asked, so here it goes:
1. How will the aperture control in video work with older, K non-A or M42 lenses? Will the camera stop them down while shooting? Will a M42 lens set to "manual" aperture (some lenses have that option) effectively give real-time aperture control, as it stops down independent to the camera?
2. Will AE work in video? Will we be able to effectively choose a shutter speed and make it "stick"?
Also, slightly off-topic, can a older lens be modded to get rid of the "clicks" in aperture ring operation (just a short answer or a pm, I don't want to derail the thread)?
The reason I ask is that I still have a K 50mm f/1.2 I held on to and would buy the K7 if only to shoot video with it :)

I don't get it. Ok, so the nitpicking is there, but the cover blurb says "With rich features, a big 14.6MP sensor, and an estimated street price of $1,299, Pentax's super DSLR is a rare talent". What are we complaining about? I feel they were quite ok about it.

Well, to be honest, it's got a black gradient "overlayed" over the sky part in PS. My way of using a grad filter :)

All taken at the film studios where I work. There's a lake reaching the premises. As I was labouring away in the office, I take a look out the window and WHAM!, I'm dashing out the door camera and extra lens in hand. Taken with the 50mm f/1.2 (on the camera at the time - the tree shot) and the Sigma 10-20 (extra lens in hand).

So I find myself trying the square crop - initially just for fun. And then I find that I like it more and more. It brings to the images a "quietness" (for lack of a better term) that I enjoy immensely. Maybe, and I'm going on a limb here, because I don't have to "read" the image anymore, from left to right, or from up to down. With a square, I just look at it, and take it all in, every dimension at once. I guess the ancient Greeks' obsession with "the perfect forms" isn't that far fetched after all.
I'm attaching a few. To look at, and to comment if you feel like it. Do you feel the same? And if you know more, would you share?

Thanks for all the replies. After tinkering with it, I found that just removing the spring does the job. The screw is stronger that the bayonet, apparently :)
$40? Wow, it's the first time something is cheaper over here. We get the original adapters (albeit rather scarcely) for $13 equivalent, from the official Pentax dealership :)
Anyway, thanks again, it appears the solution was easier and more convenient than I originally thought.

So, I have a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm f/2.5 that I decided is one of the best lenses I came across, and I want to permanently attach and adapter to it, to get rid of the hassle. My steps will be:
A. (lens) jam the aperture pin in "closed" position
B. (adapter) remove the locking thingie (if there is one)
C. somehow permanently attach the two together.
My questions are:
1. What are the best methods to solve points A and C? The lens has an Auto/Manual switch.
2. Is there a way to replace the whole mount? (I have some cheap third party K lenses I'm willing to take apart)
3. Has anyone here done this? Anything I should watch out for?
4. Any other thoughts?

Wendy, to answer your original question, the lens is 500 dollars because it's a "f = 1/1.2" (alternatively spelled "1:1.2") as opposed to the A 1:2 ( f=1/2). That means the aperture opens up a half stop more (i think, I may be wrong in the calculus) than the 50mm f=1/1.4, making it the "fastest" (biggest aperture) lens in the Pentax lineup.
That said, I have a K 1/1.2 and it's one of my favourite lenses. I'd say don't sell it yet - if the K20D has good High ISO quality, the prices are going to rise pretty quick, as the 1/1.2 gives you more light that the human eye at ISO 1600 and onwards, making for very special photography.
Plus the bokeh is special.

...and make sure you are using the same colorspace throughout your workflow (in regard to your "colors not quite right). I spent a week trying to figure out where did all the yellow come from on mine :)

Neither. It's a 50mm f/1.2 and the unnatural DOF it creates fools you into believing the objects are smaller (at least that's my theory). When I was first reviewing it I stared at it for 10ish minutes wondering what was wrong with it :)

I hardly ever use the vertical controls (silly me), but the grip itself is never coming off the camera for 6 months now. The added ergonomics and balance are completely worth it by themselves. I can even be as bold as to say that one-handed shooting is more comfortable for me with the grip on. That said, I have fairly large hands, so your experience may vary (1.88m - me, not the hands)

Picture #5 is not staged. I had the camera around my neck with the 21Ltd on it. I shot with the camera as it was (without raising it - there wouldn't have been any space, the train was packed full), and by using the shutter on the grip for a low profile movement. The guy (who I do not know) was looking at the camera for a short while (it raises a certain amount of passing interest, as you all very well know) and then drifted off into his own world, but did not move his eyes. Seeing that, I squeezed the button as hard as I could.
The 21 is a wonderful lens for this - it's very unassuming, and moves very little when focusing. Also it's a fast focuser because of lightweight elements and wide angle. It's a perfect match for street-stolen images. Now if only the shutter noise wouldn't be as loud... but that's a different story.
I used this method (shooting from the chest using the grip button) quite often. It would probably work even better with a wireless remote. True, you can't really compose the shot, but it's a fair trade-off, and there's always cropping.
There are two types of trains - the new one, with the arched bars, and the old, 70's type, that you can see in the final photo. The new ones have security guards patrolling the length (they are not divided into cars), hence the cleanliness. The old ones are a free-for-all.

Thank you all for your very kind comments.
I am strictly an amateur (I'm sort of a writer by trade, but that's a long story), so I posted those here after a long self-debate, being slightly nervous towards what the response would be. But wow. Those are the best things anyone said about my snaps in... probably ever.
And even if it's only you guys being nice, it still counts towards my enthusiasm for "the trade".

re: the camera - the guy has two cameras around the neck, one is covered by the jacket. I'm guessing that's the mythical beast :)

Ok. After a few hours of panic, I got it solved.
For some reason this particular adapter (or all, for that matter, I don't know), if "overtightened" passes whatever blocks the lens from rotating freely in the mount. It puts up a little resistance, then keeps turning easily for another 90 or so degrees, then another resistance. What I ended up with was the adapter stuck between these two first resistance points.
I put the lens (M42) back on, and kept "screwing" gently but firmly (well, you know what I mean :) the google score for this thread just went through the roof), overtook 3 more "resistance points" and the adapter had completed a 360 turn, thereby ending up in the "free to remove" position.
Just wanted to let you know, in case anyone else comes across this.
The items in question were a K10D, a Hama PK-M42 adapter and a SMC Takumar 135mm f/2.5

Hi guys, maybe you can help me, I'm in a bit of jam (see what I did there? :))
My "Hama" K to M42 adapter "overturned",so to speak, in the lens mount of my K10d. It's now jammed between two positions past the natural locking point (well, it's not jammed per se, it moves for about 50 degrees, then stops, and does not clear the mount). The leaf spring seems to be already fully pressed.
In its left-most available position, the adapter is loose "upwards" for about 75% of it's radius, being held down in it's right-down corner.
Anyone had any similar experiences?
If not, has anyone removed the tiny screws on top of the lens mount? Should I try that? Is there risk in trying to use brute force?
Please help.
