Thanks! The K-m surely is a nice camera, I've been using it for 3 years now. So far I haven't felt the need for a replacement, I guess using a film camera makes you think twice if you really need things like ISO25600, 8fps and 20+ auto-focus points to make better pictures. On the other hand, I've had to restrain myself on several occasions because of severe LBA :D
My SuperA should be back from its CLA soon, that's another fantastic camera!

the DA 16-45 is not the lens I usually pick first when shooting portraits, but when I do, it does not disappoint. Pentax Km with DA 16-45 @ 45mm, f4. |

thank you all for your comments. Looks like ill search for the FA135 and get the macro only if its significantly cheaper. The WR version would be great but is beyond my budget.

Thank you for your helpful comment!
Why is the WR better, does it have a shorter focus throw? Doesn't the quickshift help in this regard, once you set it to infinity doesn't the lens focus quick?

Hello,
I am looking for an optically superior lens to replace my DA50-200 for digital but also my film camera. Therefore i would prefer a prime lens with an aperture ring. I plan to use the lens for portraits or generally when i need a short telephoto. By searching through this forum, I narrowed my search down to DFA100 Macro (not WR!) and FA135. My reasons are:
1. both are relatively lightweight lenses, i prefer travelling light.
2. my most common focal length on the DA50-200 is around 90-135mm
3. I would like shallower depth of field than the DA50-200 offers and would therefore like a f2.8
4. Both have aperture rings, i prefer shooting manual or aperture priority on my film camera
5. Both are praised for their optical qualities.
6. Budget is €300.
First i settled for the FA135, but seeing that it is an old lens, it is quite rare and hard to get. Also I am scared it will get focusing problems (grinding sound) as I am experiencing with my F50.
The DFA100 seems like an alternative, since it is a newer model. However, I would never make use of the macro function, so Im not sure if its not a waste. Also I heard that the build quality is not great. Also, autofocus is not as fast as with the FA135, so that is also an disadvantage.
Any thoughts, recommendations?

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Voigtlander Color-Dynarex 135mm f4 (m42) Asking Price
50€ Item Location
Bratislava (Slovakia) Item Description
A rather rare lens especially in this mount. The lens also came out as the Rollei Tele Tessar and Carl Zeiss Tele Tessar, which is the original. All 3 versions were made for the Rollei/Voigtlander SLR camera series in the 1970-1980s in the Rollei QBM mount. Some Voigtlander and Zeiss were also made in M42 mount, this is the M42 version.
The problem with the lens is the focusing mechanism. It focuses at infinity a bit off the infinity marking (around 20m) and it also goes beyond the minimum focusing distance. A screw that would limit the movement of the barrel is cracked i think.
The lens is clean and has no dust inside. Aperture blades have no oil. There is one ding on the aperture ring, and one on the leatherette, otherwise no other marks.
The lens is very sharp (as expected from a Zeiss) and has nice colours. Bokeh is surprisingly smooth for the moderate aperture.
Included is also a m42/pk bower adapter and 3rd party front and back caps. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Another possible option:
DA 15
DA 35
DA 70
if money were no concern i would go for:
DA 15, DA 16-45 (for days you are feeling lazy), FA 31, FA 77, FA 135:D

I can only confirm whats been said here before, I have both the F50 f1.7 and the A50 f1.4. I had the F50 f1.7 first and was stunned by its sharpness already wide open. Out of curiosity and because i got a nice deal i got the A50 f1.7 too. After several months, i couldnt decide which one is better, so i kept both :) I use the F50 f1.7 mostly for portraits on digital and the A50 f1.4 on film as my standard lens. I was first dissapointed with the A50 f1.4 lens, but after getting a hood im really liking it. The F50 f1.7 is sharper untill f2.4, but the colours are much cooler, i guess its because of the different coatings on the F and A series lenses. The bokeh of the f1.4 is definately smoother, not as nervous as of the f1.7.

if you want the lomo look i recommend buying LOMO 35mm film and a camera with electronic contacts on the mount, this means a Pentax SuperA (in the US its called Super Progam) or a newer model. Then buy the DA18-55 kit lens for it. The lens is not very sharp on 35mm, you have vignetting like with a Holga, strong distortion, but its also very practical since you can zoom. Its also a very cheap combo!
Here is an example using my pentax super A, dal 18-55 and Kodak film ( i guess the retro feel will be stronger with LOMO film) |

I would say the Pentax is a tad sharper wide open, but you really have to look closely to see any difference. From f2.8 they are equal. The Ricoh seems to render slightly warmer colours. Otherwise i dont see any difference. Generally, all 50mm i have used are excellent. ---------- Post added 11-10-11 at 02:16 PM ---------- last price reduction!
