I'm hoping this is NOT related to the dreaded aperture block problem. Just today, my K-70 is combining images when they're stored. I turn on the camera, take a single picture and it looks fine. Take a second picture and now, when I review images, I see the two images overlayed. This continues for a while, then I might get one clean image again, then they'll start to be overlayed again. I've tried a couple different SD cards, and it happens on both. Help?????????
My son briefly used the camera, and I'm wondering if he might have switched a setting that I can't find....but I can't imagine why this would be a setting.
Thanks.

I so love this site. Thank you all. I wrote that post just before going to bed last night. Woke up this morning to 17 thoughtful replies. What a fantastic resource and community.
To the poster who wrote "I don't want to pass comment on the OP....but it's about the photographer, not the camera," You are right. What all these comments reveal to me is how much knowledge you all have of these impressively complicated digital machines and all they can do. I'm not sure I'll ever achieve that level. I'm not sure I have the interest or dedication to do so. And so, it may well be that something like that SONY is a better match for me and my photo interests. (Though laying out the $1700 all at once is a daunting prospect ... though of course, I've spent at least that over time on the Pentax and various lenses). Thank you all for giving me so much to think about.
I can't post the original photos because they're not mine, but I will add just one more thing. The pictures were taken during a performance. Whether I could capture the same quality photos or not with the right lens, I'd be reluctant to use my K-70 out of concern for those sitting around me, listening to the shutter clicking throughout the performance. On top of all its other qualities, I wonder if that SONY has a silent shutter?
Again, thank you all.

I just looked at a whole set of pictures taken with a Sony RX 10 IV, and I cannot believe how good they are. They are all photos of a theatre production, so lighting was tricky. And they were taken from the balcony! But the Sony has an 8.8 - 200 mm lens, f 2.4 - 4, so it lets in plenty of light. And despite that small sensor, the pictures look great.
So now I’m trying to figure out if there is a lens that I could put on my K-70, with its much larger sensor, that would allow me to get shots of a similar quality, in a similar situation. I have the 55-300 PLM, but I don’t think that would do it.
I know the Sony costs significantly more than my K-70, but I still didn’t expect to see such quality from a fixed lens camera.
Someone help me stop feeling like I suddenly want to sell my Pentax and all its lenses, please!

Thank you all for the very helpful input. I have much to learn. Which is better than having much to buy (though I have that, too :) ).

Thanks Adam. And the wider lenses (21 mm for ex.) mostly have narrower aperture (3.2)?
For portraits, Would I expect to see much difference in the plastic 35 mm due to its 2.4 vs. 2.8 on the Ltd. or is that not enough of a difference in aperture?

Looking for guidance ...
I love the results I get with DA 35 Ltd. when it comes to objects, flowers, insects, etc.
But when it comes to people, the results never seem to match the results I get with the FA 50 1.4, the new 55-300 PLM, or even an old manual Pentax 50 mm 1.7
It’s hard for me to put my finger on the difference. As everyone knows, the 35 Ltd. is amazingly sharp and the colors are great. But even when I search that lens on Flickr, for example, I see relatively few portraits. Why?
I would love a slightly wider lens for taking shots of family, kids, etc. but I don’t know enough to know why the characteristic (and that may not be the right word, but I don’t know how else to say it) of the 35 Ltd. just doesn’t seem right. Would I get similar results from other, wider Pentax primes?
Thanks for sharing your wisdom. (I shoot with a K-70, by the way).

Aslyfox....B&H customer service were their typically friendly and helpful selves. I explained the issue with the lens, and they took it back for a full refund without any additional questions. It's a great store (of course, the lens was still within the 30 day return period....so that helped!).
Thanks again, all....your advice was helpful.

About a week ago I bought the new 55-300 PLM lens, and love it so far. This morning, I happened to look through the front of the lens and noticed a dark speck. I thought perhaps it was dust in the camera, but swapped lenses and the speck was not visible.
It's only visible when I look through the front of the lens. I see nothing through the viewfinder. I've taken a couple test shots of a blank white wall and can see no spots in the images.
I'll attach below a shot taken with another camera through the front of this lens while mounted on camera. You can see the fleck of something that I'm talking about. I'll also attach a shot of blank white wall.
So if it has no impact on the images one takes, would this worry you enough to return the lens? It's still well within the 30 day return window at B&H.
Thanks for your help.

Now just adding a little more information in case it's useful/interesting to anyone.
Prior to today, I'd never put the camera in the "mirror lock up" setting. I tried it today, took a shot or two, then reset it to regular single shot exposure. Since doing that, the issue I described in this post originally seems significantly improved. The shutter sound is still different in live view than when using OVF, but not as exaggerated as it used to be. No idea if there's any logic to that, or if it's just all in my imagination. Anyway, I'm happy for now :)

Thank you both. I found the following quote in a review of the K-70 on another site:
“It’s not too bad as DSLRs go, but it’s much slower autofocusing in live view than any mirrorless competitor, and personally I found it too clunky for normal use. This is compounded by the camera’s insistence on flipping the mirror down and up again to take a picture in live view, which feels about a decade out of date.”
I don’t necessarily understand it, but that mirror down and up action would seem to describe both what I’m hearing and the delay. Not sure why it’s necessary in live view. Perhaps someone out there can help me?

Hello all,
Does anyone know if the functionality of live view was changed from K-30 to K-70? This is probably not the best description of it, but it seems to function more slowly than it did on my old K-30. Almost sounds like the shutter is opening and closing a couple times, and if I'm trying to take a shot hand held, I have to hold the camera still for significantly longer than when using the OVF.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I just picked up a copy of the DA 40 2.8 ltd. Excited to start trying it out, and wondering if there's ever a reason to remove the hood. Given the lens' modest size, even with the hood attached, I'm hoping I can just leave it on all the time.
Thanks for your help.

Just purchased this lens from B&H, and now I see that it is listed this way:
Pentax 35mm DA L F2.4 AL Lens
I'm familiar with the older "L" versions that were kit lenses, typically sold with a camera. But I thought there was only one version of this lens. On the Ricoh site, it is listed without the "L".
Help?
Thanks.

As of this morning, nice reductions on the following:
DA 35 F2.4
55-300 PLM
DA 50 f1.8
All discounted at b&h. Possibly others, too. Didn’t check all.
Adam, how do we support the site with purchases through B&H? (sorry, Adam, ignore the question. Was on mobile site....now that I'm on full site, I see the answer to my question is posted directly above....in a sticky!!).
Thanks. ---------- Post added 11-30-2017 at 07:26 AM ---------- And it was thanks to the price alert feature on this site that I became aware of these deals. Great feature. Highly recommend to others. Thanks PF.
Already purchased the 35, and excited for its arrival.

No truth to this Amazon claim is there? No indication of such on the Ricoh website.
Still hoping for a holiday weekend reduction on this lens.
Thanks.
