Taken in 2008 and recently converted to B&W - these "mules" used to guide ships through the locks on the Panama Canal. Wikipedia tells me that they have now been replaced by tugs. Panama Canal "mule", 2008 by Steven, on Flickr

These two stallions unexpectedly burst into action, and I quickly switched my attention to them. When I saw the result on my screen, I thought it was a shame I did not get a chance to increase my speed to freeze the action. Later I thought the blur interesting since it indicates the speed of motion while the heads were sharper.

My botanical knowledge is lacking, I know the names of roses, daisies, tulips and geraniums. This is a close up shot of none of those. It blooms in late winter/early spring here and I like the vivid colour it shows wildflower by Gary Wakeling, on Flickr

You've got to be a wild flower if you grow out of a pavement seam along the busiest street in Mexico City. No one planted it there; nature found a way.

Harbinger of Autum and Winter, Cosmos bloom in March/April, and in places they can be quite spectacular, in abundance. They are also grown in gardens, and very popular too! These are growing alongside a country road, between a military base and a farm. Cosmos in golden light by Noel Bowers, on Flickr

I'm not sure if the flower quite gets 50% of the credit for being the subject of this photo, but I wanted to use one where the flower was 100% wild, a lot of my wildflower pics are from the local botanical gardens. Hoverfly & Florida Tasselflower - K-3 and Tamron 90mm Macro

Definitely photographed in the wild (the west side of Prince Albert National Park), the Tiger Lily is the official provincial flower where I live. |
