I’ve owned the 645z and now have the Fuji 50s. The Pentax lenses with adapter on Fuji perform well. I actually don’t have a Fuji Lens due to $$$. I had a K1 also, and the 645z and 50s noticeably have more detail in them. For instance I went to Monument Valley and my hard drive failed. I only have the jpg from my smugmug website 50mb+. But it still enabled me to have 6ft print printed nicely. Also, full frame Pentax lenses are nice for portrait on the 50s, 50mm1.2, 43mm, etc. Photo Sharing. Your Photos Look Better Here. |

Dual user here, I love the pentax lenses and part of the move to sony was because I could not hit critical manual focus or even sometimes critical auto focus when shooting wide open, f1.2-1.9. It isn't a problem with the pentax body, which I've had numerous since k10 to k1. The fault lies with me, but that fault is corrected with the ability to enlarge and focus peak while looking at the EVF for mirrorless (I hate using the LCD). For me, the ability to see critical focus through the EVF is what really sent me to sony mirrorless, and their eye focus was just cheating to boot - Having to just worry about composition and shoot at lowest iso without camera shake without worrying about misfocus (eyes vs nose) for wide open portraits was the most attractive point. If I had the loot, I would still have the k1 for landscape/portrait, but since $ is a factor, I could only afford to keep my k10 and k5. I made my favorite images from Pentax, and the camera has loads of features, and I still think its the best bang for your buck, and I think the color rendition is better than the sony, it is warmer and fits my taste. However, for people like me who can't nail autofocus or manual focus when using a lens wide open, then mirrorless helps out tons. It drives me crazy when the eye isn't on focus but the cheek/eyelash/ or nose is
I'll never let go the Pentax lenses, the limiteds have pixie dust for sure. The sony/sigma lenses I have for FE mount are clinically good. However, Pentax limited lenses have a lot of character, and those add a layer to the style of the photographer. That being said, I wouldn't buy the autofocus adapter from pentax to sony because I can manually focus critically without error when doing portraits. For action/birding, the native FE lenses are pretty darn good. However, if I didn't have long FE telephoto lenses and had a FA/DA 300mm f4.5/f4, I would probably try the adapter. I was shooting with the cosina 55mm 1.2 and the pentax 50/1.2, and I've never had so many keepers before. Again, thats a user error that is fixed with mirrorless technology. If I could focus critically with the Pentax, I would still have the trusty K1. That being said, I do have a lot of portraits using limited lenses from 2.8 to 5.6 that I love and really show off their character. But now on mirrorless, I can use any lens wide open and know I hit critical focus where I wanted.

Sorry I mistyped 6x7 105mm 2.4 was the lens. Glad to help. The 45-85 is heavy but crazy sharp right? I feel like its great for that depth in portraits where MF shines.

Welcome! The 645z is amazing with all those details captured. I lost my monument valley raws and had to download jobs from my website and I was still able to make a 17x5ft print panorama with great detail. There’s affordable lenses to get. I actually have 2 if you’re interested. But definitely look up the lens reviews for the 35mm 645, 45-85mm, and 55 f2.8. There’s long lenses that are great also, 200mm is sharp, 300mm* sharper, and the 6x7 120mm f 2.4 with adapter is awesome for portraits

my 2 cents - I love the 35 3.5 and the 6x7 55. I was lucky enough to get the 645 300 FA*, but I don't think you can go wrong. It all depends on how you see the composition and which lens enables you to capture as you envision it.

Welcome! Try changing to dng files for raw. I find it’s more compatible with different editing software and quality is the same. I like the luminar edits more than lightroom presets. I’ve only started but can’t wait for the luminar ai to come out. There’s a lot of solid Pentax cameras, k3 was my apsc workhorse forever until the k1 full frame. Ergonomics, menu, capabilities for the price, and Pentax glass I love

I've had that lens and my copy was sharp wide open. If you don't mind my two cents, try shooting on a tripod, use a minimum shutter speed of at least 1/125 f2.8, and manual focus using live view to get critical focus on whatever you are focusing on, all at different focal lengths. if the image is still soft using the above then chances are then you have a bad copy. if the results are sharp, maybe your autofocus is off and you need to try the fine adjustment.
Heres a photo I took with that lens on a k1 @ f2.8 @28mm, skin is pretty sharp ---------- Post added 09-01-2020 at 05:25 PM ---------- actually I just took the time to look at your photo and there is plenty of sharpness there. The teeth look sharp and I can see the small wire on right side of picture twisting, so that's plenty sharp. I agree with Serkevan. I would also try using iso 100-400, shoot at a lamp if you can't wait until daylight or don't have flash. There is something making your pic look hazy...not sure if its fog like photoptimist said or a setting you have on, or real haze on the lens? try shining flashlight through lens to check all the elements?

Thanks a lot! I'm in the mood to shoot a dreamy series now.
I can post sample photos from wide open 3.5 to 5.6. I also got the 85mm k mount FA soft b/c of lens buying addiction. I want to say the 120mm is my favorite, but the 85mm is really nice also. I'll let you know when I post. My note taking stinks and I don't remember which was f3.5 to f5.6. Also you can see which of the lenses you want. ---------- Post added 07-24-2020 at 07:20 PM ---------- I love these!

645z and 120 soft 6x7. Trying out lens first day. I'm determined to figure out this lens and get good at using it. Exposure, contrast, saturation bumped, sharpness untouched.

Heres a shot with 60-250 with 1.7x tc and one with 60-250 without. I personally preferred the 50-135mm for portraits, but the 60-250 has the same or better iq just a stop slower. If you're strict about obeying social distancing, the 60-250 is better to be more than 6ft from your subjects, lol. also i agree that 50-135mm can be converted to screwdrive, my 60-250 is manual focus until I use the 1.7x afa tc.

Here are my first bird photos with the 150-450mm, cropped, exposure bumped but no sharpening or anything else applied. I'm very happy with this lens! I could have done better technique too, I just saw some birds and decided to whip out the camera and take some pics. I totally missed my first bird in flight, but it was a learning experience for sure. With a little contrast/sharpening, pics should look better. Also better technique next time should help out. I know I probably made a bunch of mistakes on how to go about this test but, if you were curious about how the 60-250mm DA with a AFA 1.7x tc performs versus a 150-450mm DFA then here it is. max focal lengths used, SR was off, tripod was used, if it got more blurry as I stopped down its b/c of my shutter speed (even I can mess up shooting on tripod lol). conversion from raw to jpg via lightroom. attempted 1:1 crop based on 1:1 view on lightroom (who knows if I did it right, but it looks like how it looked 1:1 in lightroom, i just used adjustment mask to help me crop 1:1 as lightroom saw it)

I will be choosing the DA 300mm. Price at the moment, weather sealing, use with and without the tc. Maybe it was the bird in flight photo that tipped the scale finally. But either way, it looks like can't lose because they are all good performing lenses
