I'm looking to buy some old Russian lenses, which only seem available from Russian/Ukrainian dealers through e-bay. Can anyone recommend a reliable dealer? I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has been down this road before. Thanks in advance.

...and the Kingbirds win! This is the season for bird bonding and conflict. I caught a couple of brave kingbirds running a pair of Red Tails out of town.

I agree that the arrangement works very well here. It's shots like this that are getting me seriously interested in the DA 35.

After careful consideration of the expert opinions set forth, I hereby declare that this is officially a Northern Shrike. Thanks everyone!

Wow! That is some composition. Sounds like you suffer for your art, but it sure looks worthwhile to me.

I agree, it is cool. Like someone else said, maybe not a great shot of the eagle per se, just a really good photo full of beauty and interest.

This wetlands area has dried up during the summer, but I guess the fishing is still pretty good in this stream.

I've seen a couple of Loggerhead Shrikes in this part of Central California, but this one seems to be a little different. Any shrike experts out there?

You people in Galveston are obviously having too much fun. Nice images of the"Beast", it appeals to my anti-social water sports disposition.

The wonderful beauty of your subject has overwhelmed any technical imperfections of the image. Photographers spend too much time talking to themselves. The power of an image comes more from the subject and not technique to those not particularly concerned with photography per se. My view is that I am such a lousy photographer, that I will gladly accept any compliment for practically any reason. What the hell, I do this just for fun.

It's good to know that there are other featherheads out there like me who get excited by sightings like this. The image with the bird holding the worm is special.

Thanks everyone, the focal length was 150mm/225mm EFL, and there was some cropping, but not very much. In any case, I don't know what people mean when they say things like "forty percent crop".
I have just switched from Olympus to Pentax, and I cannot say how much I enjoy and appreciate the KX. With my old E-510, I was basically limited to ISO 400, even with Noise Ninja, for my birding. With my KX I regularly use 800, and can use 3200 if need be. Keeping the Sigma 150-500 in the f8-f10 sweet spot is easy and fast shutter speeds and great fps have made BIF shots a joy instead of an impossibility.
My Olympus equipment always delivered great images under normal circumstances--the Oly colors really do look better to my eye. I am keeping the Olympus for the normal stuff, but my KX is the only way to go for birding.

Thanks Jord, I shot this one around 3:00 in the afternoon. The light was good for the first time in about two weeks.

Great birds and a good job. Have you ever had any experience using a fill flash? I'm ordering my Better Beamer next month to see if it will help under conditions like this.

I don't think that I've seen one of these posted anywhere before. Thanks for posting, you must know what you are doing shooting 1000mm and a 1.7TC!
