Well i speak metric, not tuna. I read your analysis, thank you, very informative, but the question remain, is there a place you can buy the "official" green one?

Ok, so thanks to Medex i replaced the top part of the camera, working fine, all buttons and dials. But the solenoid is dead. White ones got really expensive, can anybody point a shop who sells the green one? I see also blue ones, tons of green but who sells the "good" bad green solenoid? Would give it a shot until i can get a white one, hope it will last for few k shots.

Tried sanding but doesn't work, removed the flex pcb from connector. Camera is working in full manual mode, i can control shutter speed with front dial. The flex pcb controls mode dial, rear wheel, flash and delete button, these are dead. Nothing vital, usable until i can find the part. Solenoid might be dead, but can't test auto. So if you must open the camera, top part, be careful, since it seems you can tear apart flex pcb. It has a connector under shutter button, release from there and after you can open it on a side, it has wires connected to the camera on the other side. Don't pull it upwards. Too bad whoever had and opened the camera before was so careless.

The firmware problem was solved, since is back to 1.06 k30 menu is working as it should. Since mode dial and back dial are not working, and the menu shows M mode, i wonder if i can use it with manual lenses, since i can control iso and shutter speed. I'll have to try these days.

I can expect at least the solenoid problem, since it was opened before, but i can deal with that, changed it in my k50 with one of the old white solenoids, no problems since. Yes, a donor maybe or this one will end up as donor.

Thank you, true, a repair service center is out of the question due to price, don't think is worth it. It is indeed too small for soldering, doubt a phone service could do something, but I'll ask a few places.

Hi, bought a broken K30. Had problems with K50 firmware, stuck in menu screen, fixed that, reverted to k30 firmware. But mode dial and back wheel do not work. There were signs somebody had opened the camera before, a missing screw :)

So i opened the camera, top part, and the flexible PCB that goes to mode dial and back wheel was broken, as in there was some kind of tape and inside the pcb in 2 pieces, completely separated.

From k30 parts list i think is T50 Shoe Flexible Printed Circuit (77650-T50,A92 x2).
Is there a place one can find such parts, or does anybody know a way to repair a broken PCB that is so small?

I can still use the battery in my functional K50, and the 18-55 lens, now i can choose 1 out of 3, but would be a shame not to resurrect this camera if it would be possible.

Thanks for your thoughts, have a great year and interesting subjects to capture!
Edit: tou can see the back dial wheel in the camera picture, and a piece of the flexible circuit

I have the Vivitar 100 f3.5, with 1:1 adapter (didn't use that anyway, but it's there), is the same lens. I am surprised yours is still for sale, at this price is a steal. Yes, is plastic, feels cheap, but oh boy, the optics! Went with Nikon also for a while, sold a lot of lenses for Pentax, but never the 100. Now i got a white K-50 (black frame), replaced solenoid with a white one and I'm back on track, can't wait for better weather to take the 100 for a spin. Can't imagine better value for a manual lens. Just my subjective opinion.

I'll wait to see what comes up, nothing so far :) Checked prices on ebay and major second hand stores, but no luck, and i don't think there's a chance other than here to get something. If not I'll sell the manual stuff and get something else.

I went D7000 road after the k-x, wanted better AF. Did not used another Pentax, only the k-x with manual lenses since Nikon can't get infinity without crap adapter with glass. Been happy with D7000 so far, using 18-105 and 50 1.8D. Now I find myself looking for a cheap k5II or K3 to go with my manual k and M42 glass, but on ebay at least seems people think there is a vast amount of gold somewhere inside those cameras. K-x still good, but dark pentamirror for manual lenses is a no go now, used only with 18-55 and 50-200 kit.

I am a zoom guy, but i also have a lens that i like to use - the Vivitar 100mm 3.5 macro (plastic - fantastic!). Did not happened over night, but i ended up liking it. The 50mm didn't impress me, maybe on FF works, didn't tried an 35mm.

K-x. Use it for old M42 lenses.

is photography your most expensive hobby?

Photography is as expensive as you want it to be. I had the "LBA" addiction, but bought old M42 or K lenses, so was cheap. When i had quite a few, i realized that i'm not using all that stuff, and kept just a few. Now i just look at the new lenses, but have no urge to get those, as i have other things to spend on, first one being my 2 years old son :)

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 softer to one side

Well i suspect these are high iso images (there's no exif). Sharp or not, at least for me there's clearly a difference between left and right side, right being worse. You could send maybe, if there's warranty left, some examples to Tamron service, both in good and bad light and at different f stops.
