Quick and dirty shot of my gear while I was waiting for the battery to charge. Realized later that I didn't angle the K-1 properly so the "K-" is cut off... oops! |

I bought a replacement 540 FGZ hot shoe mount direct from Pentax Canada and installed it myself, it was really easy. Cost about $75CDN shipped.

Last week I stopped by Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary with my K-1 and FA* 200mm Macro looking for dragonflies. Blue dragonflies are quite common there, but I've never seen a red one in person before. All the blue ones were busy flying around but this red one decided to pose for me for about 30 minutes! It would land on a branch one or two feet away from the boardwalk railing, I'd take a few shots, then it'd take off for a short flight before landing in a different position on the same branch. It really seemed like it was trying different poses for me!
My battery wasn't fully charged and it ended up running out after 127 shots. It was windy so I had to use a high shutter speed. Too bad, as I wish I could have stopped down more. Very few of my shots were cropped, and if so only slightly. The full resolution 25-36 mega-pixel images are blowing my mind! What do you think? Which is your favorite?

There are more shots on my Flickr page too, and lots more for me to post process later.

I was an early adopter of the K20 when it was released and was thinking I'd wait for firmware updates and price breaks before buying a K-1. Surely after being happy with the K20 for 8 years I could wait a little while longer, right? Haha nope! Stumbled upon a K-1 that had been put on hold and never picked up, store was happy to sell it to me, so I pulled the trigger.
The exact same thing happened to me: I was waiting a few hours for the battery to fully charge so I set it to MF and threw on my FA* 31mm... blurry, couldn't focus far, dark... uh oh?!?! Then I found this thread and calmed down. :)
The second thing I did once the battery was in (after verifying my 31mm would still focus) was turn off the "always on" LCD display. Do people really like having a large, bright, high res LCD displaying trivial information right below their eye when they're looking through the viewfinder? I thought maybe it would be like a phone where the screen turns off when it's up against your ear, but it doesn't, so I'm really confused why this would be the default behavior.
The other thing I noticed right away is that when I pick up the camera / move it around and it's turned off, it feels and sounds like the sensor is loose and moving around inside. Is that normal?
