Thanks, didn't know there was a German site from them. Pity, they only have the Sigma 'unpopular' lens- Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC and not the HSM version

Lens for weddings indoor shots

Hi,
I have a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 that has focusing issues under 34mm. Got it repaired once but happening again so I want to replace it.
Main use weddings/family events.
I already have Sigma 30mm (main use- gigs), Pentax 100mm f/2.8, 70-200m f/2.8.
Am going to get a 50mm prime as well.

What to replace the Tamron with please. Budget is about €350 max.
Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM gets great reviews but I'm struggling to source one. (I'm in Ireland, companies from UK won't ship & I need it before Sept 16th).
  • - another Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8

  • - Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4

  • Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro- some say very soft wide open. Is it that bad/noticeable?

  • something else?

Cheers,
pa.

I still have a few bits to tweek, some photos to add to some of the weddings & rearrange them but for the most it's finished.

If you have a few minutes please have a look & I'd be delighted with feedback- overall thought, what you like & don't like & constructive criticism.

An artist and neighbour of mine, Kathy Ross has some of her work in a very unique exhibition by Athenry M Artists Group-local artists work features Athenry Mart (the cattle, people and the mart building itself) and is on display in one of the mart rings. It's the perfect environment to house the exhibition as the mart is an integral part of Athenry town and visitors can associate to the art more as there's cattle, farmers around them and they are in the buildings featured in the art.

I visited the exhibition recently and experienced my first cattle mart as well. What can I say about it? It's an experience & a man's world; the musical, almost singing voice of the auctioneer, the farmers, cattle and surprisingly quick sales.

Hi,
Happy Valentines Day! (tomorrow)
If you have a fullscreen homepage you might as well use is 'seasonally' I think. (unless you're main aim is selling and having all flowers on your landing page might confuse people into what your area is). Lucky then my main aim isn't selling.

Cheers,
Pa.

I recently had a luxurious stay in The Marker Hotel, Grand Canal Dock in Dublin last weekend. The Grand Canal Dock has undergone major recent rejuvenation, now houses some exciting and eye-catching buildings, including The Marker Hotel and the Bord Gais Energy Theatre

Both are very striking buildings and I was drawn to the lines and patterns in both. the first four photos are of the Bord Gais Energy Theatre (left)The last three photographs are of the side of the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, an (unknown to me) office building and The Marker Hotel, which has the black and white patchwork design.

Cheers,
Pa.

haven't read the 6 pages so sorry if I'm repeating...
Do you hedge any grieves who are into photography? If so spend an afternoon with them giving you a basic lesson-
When to use aperture setting
When to use shutter setting.

Don't worry about anything else at first.
Then learn about the effect a quick shutter speed has on aperture and vice versa.

Don't go near manual setting for ages.
After you understand them then learn about iso.

If you don't have a friend who can help I'd advise a basic photography course. No idea where you live but hopefully you can find one. I think it's 10 times better getting a lesson in person with someone you can ask questions to and go over what you don't get than learning from a book or the net.

Good luck.

has potential but for me there is no main focal point. I'd try cupping out the left, make it portrait orientation and making the empty chairs the focal point.

Someone was kind enough to give me a loan of a Sigma 10-20mm lens for over a week.
I presume there's many other like me that would like to see how much more you actually capture with a wide angle. So here are some photos comparing 10mm with 17mm.
My thoughts are it's a 'nice to have' lens but I don't know how much I'd use it.

What did you get for Christmas?

I got a K5ii from B&H on their Black Friday sale. Now I have a K-7 and the K-5ii.
I shot a friends wedding just before Christmas so it was perfect to have the two cameras and be able to use high ISO (1600 very comfortably).
Here's a few photos of the bride and groom getting ready before the ceremony Úna and Tony wedding in Cork, 2013. Bride and Groom getting readyPatrick Dinneen Photography

Next a flash maybe. Although I've manged without one so far but there's certain situations where it'd help I'm sure.

I bought a K-5ii from B&H on Black Friday after reading here about their great deal.
Is there some way that I can now get my account upgraded and have full marketplace access?
Thanks in advance,
Patrick.

Hi,
Thanks for the step-by-step instructions.
would the solution and steps be the same for the K-7? I'm having problems with the front e-dial; jumps when trying to go below 1/30 of a second sometimes.
cheers,
pa.
