DFA 24-70 wobbling lens barrel

Mine has a slight movement and I'm pretty sure it has always been this way.

I can fit a business card into the space between the focusing ring and the barrel.

If I so slightly apply pressure towards me and the paper, I can feel that the barrel is now pushing on up against the focusing ring as I can't tug the paper out without a good pull..

Does yours wobble enough to get more than one business card into that space? I can't, there's only enough space for one card....

This is my primary lens so its gotten plenty of use and I can't say that I've ever had any problems.

Just my 2 cents. Please be careful and don't shove paper in there if it doesn't fit. Please don't pull the card out so quickly that you tear and leave a piece of card in your lens...

So mine has some play, but just a tad and I'm certain that this has always been present. Does it feel like the barrel is wobbly or the focus ring feels loose?

Regards,
Rodney

In another thread I posted the issue, but the problem appears to be with a sticky mirror where my images are partially obscured. I'll just live with it for now.

I found a 50mm macro that will keep me busy for a while. While I love my 100MM Macro, this 50mm Macro is gives me a new perspective to shoot from.

Rodney

I won't put any more money into this K1Mkii. I'll live with the quirkiness until I replace it with another K1MKII or something newer.

In the meantime I picked up a FA 50 Macro from another member here. Waiting for it to patiently get here.

You’re correct, it isn’t full frame..but on the rare occasion i might need the reach it would give it to me....

Over all I hear it’s a decent lens which I can use on the k70...

Thanks. I updated my profile. It should read K1MKII as I upgraded the K1 when Pentax offered the $500 upgrade. So the purchase would really be to backfill hokey K1MKII.

I've got a decent ligthing kit and ever once in a while when I have a few buddies over we break it out and spend the afternoon boohooing that we all need more lighting practice. With his pandemic they not made it around. But that's no excuse for me not working on it myself. :(

Rod

.

All good points. I've been dragging my feet with the large 150-450. I just can't justify it quite yet. My brother is photographs birds. He's got a beast of a 600 that it just crazy and he says that's not always long enough. So the 450 won't be either if I intend to do birding ( not my thing so far).

You know, the FA50/2.8 Macro could be a real option here. I'll need to check into this. I've had a nifty 50 for many years and it was a favorite of mine for many a moons.

Thanks!

The DA 55-300 PLM might be my answer to NOT getting the 150-450mm. I think i can justify spending that much on a walk about lens that gives me the reach I've been wanting to test out. :)

Well, with regards to lighting/tripods triggers/backdrops I'm up to my neck in goodies. I don't have the 31mm! I'm tempted just so I can finish off the set. Are you selling one cheaply to help my issue? :)

I've been happy with my K-70 but I feel like I moved into the full frame world and I need to stick with it to justify all this glass. I'm just happy to know that I can keep using it on my APSC but I'd like to stick with Full Frame.

Regards,
Rodney

- You've hit the nail on the head. I spent good money on my AD200s and the accesories and I need to work on using them more often. It might be time to pull the flashes out of the lighting back and put them to use.

Lume Cubes, I'll need to check them out. I've not been really happy with the Sigma ring flash. I'm sure its me and not the flash though.

So I'll take a look at Lume cubes. :)

I can't wait for March. I might get a serious photo tour bug and realize that I should have stuck to buying hardware!!! :)

I'm looking forward to it. Its been a while since I've had anything but a staycation.

I looked to see if I could rent one. It is definitely on my list of items. I'll go find the forum for that lens. I thought I saw one recently started.

Thanks!

Hey folks,
My birthday is coming up and god willing I will have survived the 2020 Pandemic!

So I think its time for me to consider my 2021 birthday present.

A bit of background, I shoot mainly floral macros with some random stuff. I rarely shot any people shots and I'm not great at doing landscape composition. So that's what I do.

1. I have the 100MM Macro but was considering one of the new macro lens that are recent to the market.
2. My K1Mkii took a fall this past year and it hasn't been the same. It may be time to find a replacement.
3. I signed up for a photo tour for Spring of 2021 and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will NOT get cancelled.

So there you have it, I have major GAS and I'm trying be adult like and get rid of it, so do I...

- I've considered getting a Medium Format camera with a Macro lens, but I'm not finding a great number of people saying that their macro photography benefited from going to MF.

- Should I hold off until 2022 for a new K1MKIII? There's no indication that's even going to happen. There's no doubt that I'd be picking up the K1MKIII when it comes out. Having been shotting full frame for years, I'm not sure I'd be inclined to pick up the K3III

- I do not have the 150-450 but to be honest, I don't think it'll get much use so I'm not sure its worth the expense. I'm doubtful that it would get rid of my GAS.

So there you have it. Its Friday, my vegetarian friend and I are about to take some photos and I'm probably gonna have a lot more GAS by end of day.

So your thoughts are appreciated.
Regards,
Rodney

So tempting..if it weren’t so close to the holidays...
I’ll look into the zoom lock, but just so I understand, this just locks the lens in place preventing it from creeping while walking?

I've considered ordering one but I've never chatted with anyone that uses one. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it helped/didn't help you. Desk space is always an issue and my intuos Pro tablet and I've not really put it to great use.

Very cool to hear your new toy is on its way!!!

I've experienced this issue as well during some group photos. I finally had to simply the camera to timer mode and run and get into the shot. I could never get my K1/Godox trigger to work with my wireless remote on a delay setting.

Thanks folks. What I hadn't mentioned was that on the adjoining wall, there's a 75 inch TV. I've attempted to use that system in the past to display images, and here's my take.
1. I think that not all my macro images are meant to be on large media
2. I'm not too frugal with power use, the house is decked out with Home Automation goodies, but I'm conscientious about wasting power when not in the room. So maybe I'll only use this when I'm having dinner parties.
3. I'm not used to seeing some of my work in big bold images. I might have to start with a large canvas print that's not so in my face! :)

So thanks everyone for your feedback!

Rodney

Great information here. I've never liked the fact that they use RED to indicate focus is achieved, but I seem to recall that sometimes I see a GREEN indicator that Focus is achieved.

Or maybe I'm mixing my cameras up...

K1 Mkii issues using Live View..Can someone explain what I'm seeing.

Following my fall and the repair of my K1Mkii, I've started seeing the following issue. Randomly while using Live view I end up seeing the following image.

Something is blocking my image..

Is my mirror stuck? I think I've read some mirrors being gummied up after servicing...

If I get out of Liveview or turn the camera off/on I can get a normal liveview view.

If you know what's going on, what do you suggest be done? Live with it or as my local camera shop to try and clean up the sticky item?

I've added a second image since I found another one in this batch.

Thanks!

Has anyone used a Digital Signage Display for their photos?

My partner and I are thinking we'd like to replace a large store bought framed print with one of my photos.

I currently have a Gallery wall with framed 11x14 photos. I love the look but I'd really like for some of my stuff to hang over the fireplace.

Here's my issue...A mounted canvas print, let's say 36x36, can be a few hundred bucks, let's say $400. If I replace it every 3 years, I'm at $1200 for 9 years plus whatever the cost of a frame.

So I'm wondering, what electronic solutions are there?

I found a digital signage display 55" for around $1000.

amazon.com: Samsung QB65R 65 inch 4K UHD 3840x2160 LED Commercial Signage Display for Business with HDMI, Wi-Fi, and 3-Year Warranty, 350 nit (LH65QBREBGCXZA), Black: Computers & Accessories?tag=pentaxforums-20&

I have my reservations on using this type of setup, mainly that it feels very industrial. Not the same feeling that current framed artwork conveys.

I'm wondering if anyone has used a similar setup in their home. Pros? Cons?

Regards,
Rodney
