Would I be crazy to go from a K5 to a Canon 5D?

UPDATE! Ok guys I got my Canon 5D with a Canon EF 50mm F1.4...All I have to say is I made the right decision FOR ME. I still miss Pentax's menu system and all the handy controls on the K-5 but because I do portraits, I like the extra wide view and the ability to get closer to get a shallower depth of field. The screen on the 5D is pretty sucky and is hard to get used to. It doesn't have as many handy options as the K-5 either but you gotta sacrifice some things. Anyways, I'll miss Pentax and it's great products. Thanks for all the advice and info.

Item for Sale
Pentax Kx (Black) with 18-55mm Lens and 8GB Extreme II Memory Card

Asking Price
$390

Item Location
Sacramento, CA

Item Description
I am selling my Pentax Kx with 18-55mm lens. The camera comes in the original box with original accessories. I am throwing in a 8GB Extreme II SanDisk Memory Card also and a Remote Shutter (set the camera to wireless remote and you can trigger the camera to focus and then take the shot, works great for self portraits).

The camera has about 10,000 shutter clicks on it but still works great. The AF Adjustment hack is on the memory card so you can adjust AF on lenses (won't save multiple lens settings, only works for 1 at a time).

The screen on the side bleeds light a little bit, it's a little brighter on the right corner side of the screen, not a big deal and doesn't affect the screen display. I believe this is how I received it, the camera was new when purchased.

I will cover PayPal fees and will add insurance on the package for free.

I'm not losing too much switching systems but I plan on getting a Sigma 50mm f1.4 for my 5D, it's comparable to the Canon 50mm f1.2 L. My brother in law has the cheap 50mm f1.8 and the pictures look good, can't wait to try the much superior Sigma.

I decided to get a 5D, I can't get over the look I love about the images. I also like the bigger size of the camera, I have large hands so it feels better when the camera is bigger. Thanks everyone for the replies.

--- If someone wants the body and lens without the battery grip and strap ill do $1300. Body only ill do $1250. I won't sell the lens for $50, you can only get it for $50 if you buy it with the body (which would be $1300). ---

Item for Sale
Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 with Box and Accessories

Asking Price
760

Item Location
Sacramento, CA

Item Description
I'm selling my Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 APO EX DC. The lens is awesome and is very sharp. You may need to apply a little AF Adjustment in camera if your body supports it.

The lens still has 8 months warranty left on it so you can send it in to Sigma if you want it calibrated so that it focuses correctly without any in camera adjustment (this is common for this lens).

The lens comes in the box with a case, strap for the case, front and back caps and the lens hood. Price is $760 and I'll cover the Paypal and Shipping fees.

I can't ship it until Monday June 6 because I am out of town this week.

Here is a link to the pictures of the lens. Pentax Forums won't let me upload them again. I decided to keep the lens but changed my mind again and decided to sell it, I don't really need it.

Would I be crazy to go from a K5 to a Canon 5D?

Maybe you're right. Maybe it is the field of view. The thing that sucks is that in order to get an equivalent field of view of his 50mm i would have to get a 31mm f1.8 which is $1,000. I could get a 35mm f2.4 but the aperture isn't as large so my dof wouldn't be the same to the 5D.

Ok enough about the skill...obviously people aren't understanding that when he takes a picture, it be of his nose hairs, it has a different look than an aps-c image. I seem to notice this with cameras that are full frame. I can't be the only one noticing this. I will bring my k5 to his house tonight with my 50mm f1.4 and I'll compare images taken with his camera with his 50mm f1.8 with the same settings. I hope there won't be a big difference between the images, I'm really hoping to be wrong about my assumptions.

He shoots RAW and I was using a prime the same day when we were taking pictures at this park. I was using the 50mm f1.4.

I don't mind the heavier cameras, I like the weight and size since I have big hands.

Asdf - oh, that lens doesn't work on a full frame, my bad. Scratch that then.

Check out these shots with the 5D, they all are not the best but they look interesting because of that look I can't pin point.

No offense either but I am not that bad of a photographer

http://www.flickr.com/photos/48244452@N06/5779984930/in/photostream

My brother in law just started, he's good but what I'm trying to convey is there is a film movie look to his images, just like there is with 24 frame per second video...it looks a certain way. His lens isn't the best ($125), the 43mm f1.9 has a similar look I guess but that would be too bad to have to spend $600 on a lens to get the same look as a $125 Canon lens on a full frame.

Maybe it's the field of view when shooting at a large aperture...

Ok guys, here are some other pictures. I took these with the same intensity of backlighting and what I noticed is when I shot in landscape mode, the focus would lock correctly more often, I focused on the corner of the chair...when focusing in portrait mode, the focus was having trouble locking, it locked but was off and instead focused on the leaves as you can see in the second set of images, focus still was on the corner of the chair. I was using center focus point.

Can you give some reasons why not the 5D and why the Mark II is so much better in your view? Has anyone else noticed this look of the 5D or Mark II? Also, I found a 5D for $875 so not a bad price. Cheapest on eBay is $1250

I shoot portraits and use off camera flash and I had the Kx, K7, and now the K5. I have a Pentax Tamron 28 - 75mm f2.8, Sigma 50-150mm f2.8, and a 50mm f1.4. I love the K5 but I can't seem to get over the fact that when I see images my brother in law takes with his 5D and 50mm 1.8 (a $125 lens brand new), I see a specific look to his images, almost like a film movie look. I saw a picture he took of me yesterday and straight out of camera on his screen the image had that look I like. I also like that he can get closer to get shallower depth of field by scooting up since there's no crop factor. The K5 is awesome and I love it but it seems the images don't have the look I'm referring to...maybe I'm crazy but I see it with his 5D and it's not the editing since I saw an image he took straight out of camera on his camera screen.

I would sell the K5 and lenses and would get a 5D (not Mark II) a Canon 50mm f1.4, a Tamron 17-50mm, and maybe a Tamron 70-200mm.

Let me know what you all think. Thanks.
