Advice on getting KS-2 and 1-2 lens for astro

These are good and clear advices. Many thanks again.

I want the Pentax to avoid the issue in urban sky where you can see only some stars in some part of the sky and not others. One 2x, 5x, 1xx and 2xx would be my target lens. Based on the advice, the 2xx could be covered by the 200mm of Pentax 67 with adapter. In fact as the maximum that O-GPS1 probably is the last to try.

5x I looked at KEH and found three 1.4 old lens, all sounds similar and around $100. May try one of those.

2x I saw a 28 F3.5 ... not sure.

Would try to look at those newer DA 2x lens as well.

Thanks all!

Many thanks for all the good advice.

For pentax lens, I probably tried a bit M lens first if it can deal with 20M APS-C resolution. Would have the new collapsable kit lens as well. Wait for 1 month for the o-gps1 arrived fist then go to get it. The price seems falling already and hence wait a bit might be good.

6x7 mm is not that sharp but it is light relative to its size. The best two I have is the 55 and 200, with the 90. Never got the 105 2.4. I would try the adapter for this and Hassey as well as I already have these lens in any case. (The Hessey even though it is 1960 C lens seems resolve well with my OMD and Nikon etc. Hence I suspect it is of higher resolution. For film, 67 lens is good enough and got its only different transparent look. The Hessey lens seems to add a lot of colours. Like them both and take them out from time to time.)

Cheers!

Advice on getting KS-2 and 1-2 lens for astro

I know it is strange but I placed an order for an O-GPS1 to try astrophotography with Pentax, but not yet have any small format Pentax body yet and lens. Did have Pentax 67 and 55/90/135/200/75-shift/300old for 67, And some Hasselblad old C lens. As my Nikon lens cannot be used, need to fine a body and 1-2 lens.

I targeted KS-2 as it got the flip out screen. I knew quite a lot used the K5 but I need to point to 60 degree + to the sky. hard for the neck.

I read a bit and totally confused by this DA, Limit, ... CanI ask for advice on which 1-2 lens to start with. Do not mind manual or heavy (Still use Pentax 67). Did like one for wild field and one for closer a bit (but <=200mm). Old lens is fine. manual focus is fine. Pure for astro experiment. (I have others like iOptron tracer and the astrotrac but both need sort of north star which I cannot easily see in my place).

Many thanks in advance.

Using AF500TFZ and 165 F4 LS on 67NII

A test comes at least 4-8 year too late but now I just got a AF500TFZ based on LL trick on day light fill flash and this statement by Paul Stenquist at

Re: 67 Mania gaining foothold, victim needs help!

"
B> 4) Can you adjust TTL flash fill via exposure compensation like you
B> can on the SuperProgram? In other words use manual metering, and adjust
B> the exposure compensation to control the flash fill?

That is also correct. However, remember that your flash synch is only
1/30th of a second. You can improve that by using the leaf shutter
lenses, but the leaf shuttter lenses are not compatible with the TTL
system."

a) TTL works

Without using the leaf shutter, I use my sekonic L-758D and F4 to F32 at 1/2 change with camera quite close to the sekonic L-758D its reading from F6.3 to F11 at 0.5s. Hence TTL seems to work when no LS there.

b) TTL at 1-1/3 works

By LL site, the trick seems to work as I adjust the adjustment but use all manual Aperture and Speed (at 1/2), the light output change

c) Flash Sync at any speed test

Based on the above statement, need to test flash would sync at speed of the LS Lens

This seems valid by the sound i.e. the first shutter seems to work with the Leaf shutter together and the flash is triggered. But it cannot be checked by my sekonic as it is a matter whether the film is fully covered. I have to test this with some slide and film tomorrow but I looked like the first part of the statement i.e. flash sync up to 1/500 should work.

d) TTL would not work with LS lens?

This is my main question. Is the TTL not work means that the flash would not cut its output when it receive enough light? Using my sekonic, I found that no matter what sync speed use i.e. 1/60 or 1/500 the output of the flash does not change. That might mean that the flash is not TTL. Perhaps there is a limit of what speed it can cut it output and 1/60 is already too fast for it.

I would test it with slide tomorrow

1) at 1/30 test flash at TTL
2) at 1/30 test flash at TTL but manual -1.3 as LL site has said in 2004 for day-light fill flash
3) test sync and assume no TTL (at 1/60, 1/125, 1/250 and 1/500) manual flash 1/32 with Sekonic to meter what aperture to use at 100%
4) test sync and assume TTL at the four speed and just let the flash plays

Sekonic would be outside the frame

...

Late to the party ...

P.S.

The helicord does not trigger the flash using PS Cord and as its lost auto diaphragm, it cannot TTL as well. confirmed by Sekonic.

The auto set always trick me into issues as it has auto diaphragm but not metering. However, it did TTL based on Sekonic. But one must note that if you do mirror lock up it will trigger the LS and close it. Unlike the PS code case which trigger the flash also, the flash is not trigger using TTL flash cable! Hence, as the mirror is up you may think that you are using LS shutter but in fact you have not taken any picture! Moot point as one does not use Mirror lock and LS together I guess.

BTW, Paul's second statement is not right for my NII as it does not trigger the flash via PS as the flash the LS can be trigger via normal means without the PS cable:

"B> 5) What is the highest shutter speed on the leaf shutter lens(s)? 1/500?
B> When using the leaf shutter lens does the body sync the flash correctly?

I believe that the lens is what triggers the flash via a PC cord. That
is also why you lose the TTL."

But the lost of TTL seems real.

Thanks. I have both the Sekonic l-758d and gossen digiflash.

I continue my test and found out that my SB-800 flash test button is inoperative. I may have to use my SB-600 for that purpose. That might resolve the issue.

For the double exposure, I have read the manual and test (or waste) a few film. It is still not clear.

May be I should continue my test.

Using Sekonic Flash meter with Pentax 67

I have both and started to use them for my upcoming macro shoots. After testing the meter and the camera at home, I have quite a few questions I did not understand -- how to actually use the meter to adjust to ambient light when you have film

If I do not have film yet in the camera, it is easy. Just go to flower, press the measure and trigger the flash. You can then adjust the ratio by changing the shutter (and use the combination of shutter and aperture suggested by the meter with the ratio e.g. 20% flash for fill flash).

Now you have taken the first macro and move to another flower, what can you do then? I did not want to bring another camera just to trigger the flash :-).

If you cannot do the multiple exposure, have you have to waste one film to get the flash trigger and then metering?

Assume one must use multiple exposure to trigger the flash and as I have the Pentax 67 NII, how do you get to multiple exposure. I saw a button there but never manage to deal with it?

If I cannot manage this NII feature (so far not able to), I may have to use the LS 90 and LS 165 I have. How to do this multiple exposure?

If all that is not ok, what is flash you can recommend and cable for TTL with NII. I use Nikon SB800 currently.

Thanks for any advice in advance.
