I have a cell phone and I think it would be neat if I changed the wireless transmission to….a long string….and then present the new device at an electronics show.

Did you read this by any chance…
Vertical line across Pentax 67 negatives - PentaxForums.com

Also check kai_franke’s post here as he found the cause to be one of the film rollers had something on it

Hope that helps.

BTW…my 645D had the same image problem…until I found out it was a common sensor problem…but a software update solved it for now. Vertical lines on film and digital, who knew!

Pentax KF gets DPReview TV mention for best landscape photography camera

Which flagship cameras from manufacturers have not been reviewed by dpreview? And from companies that release a camera maybe every ..,,5 years. Dpreview may not review every canon camera but they review a lot of canon cameras. Even a Nikon P1000 gets a full review. I do not know why Pentax reviews are far and wide on dpreview but it is a fact there are few in depth reviews. As far as the KF is concerned, it may not be a desirable camera by most dslr users, I would not know the exact answer to it, but the first 60 seconds of the dpreview video says it all. Thank goodness the internet has sites that do review Pentax cameras in depth in order to assist users with an informative review before making a purchase and thanks to the users of this forum there is lots of information. I will just leave it at that.

I have nothing against the dpreview site….but please do not state that they could not review the k3iii because of not enough “bandwidth”. They did not review it because they decided not to review it.

The KF was for all purposes “reviewed” by them in their video. No one expects anything else.

As per the posting topic…,KF gets mentioned…there is no longer any logic on dpreview when it comes to Pentax products…or dslr’s. The k3iii still has no final review because….no specific reason. The KF was rated badly by dpreview and now the opposite. The video states that live view on dslr’s are not as good as mirrorless because….they are not as bright in sunlight. And that with a mirrorless in bright sunlight one can use the EVF instead of a dslr viewfinder. I enjoy Chris’s videos…but the logic is just not there. I mentioned it a long time ago but repeats mentioning again. When the K1 model came out and DPreview listed the best full frame models, which there were not many, they left out the K1 because it was not expensive enough to meet their threshold! LOL!

Digital backs for the 645

Gotta ask....why? It would not prove useful or financially reasonable to put a digital back on a film 645...a 645z digital one is likely $3500-6500, a fraction of the cost trying to do it your way. Or just get a 645D with low shutter count for a couple thousand.

Pentax 645z - worth 'nothing' on used market?

Maybe the OP can tell us if the camera is posted anywhere for sale, and if not on PF then please explain why. Otherwise why complain on PF you cannot find a buyer and then not list it on the site. Maybe I am missing something in this logic. On the other hand, if it is posted then I missed it and my apology.

Pentax 645z - worth 'nothing' on used market?

A few years ago I purchased a used 645D for a fairly reasonable price. But before that I tried purchasing a 645Z locally advertised. The owner would not take a reasonable offer and started following me on this site telling me I am being unreasonable in not accepting the advertised price! So I believe that pricing is probably important on selling the Z and also shutter count. This forum has been great for me selling Pentax used items and the buyers have been great. Not sure if you ever listed it on PF. Fuji MF…,from what I have read it looks like a great system…and then I added up what the body and say 3 lenses would cost compared to the Z. I’ll stay with the D until it dies.

The Brick & Mortar Experience & It's Closings Affect On Us All

Reeftool.....don't feel too upset....this is happening everywhere. I do not believe they tried to get u in the store by deception. Covid has caused factory closures, unpredictable manufacturing times, shipping delays, orders placed and not fulfilled, and warehouse/store computer stock errors. How do I know, same thing happened to me. Also needed a new dishwasher. Did the internet research, looked at what's available and called the stores. Found out all the stores will only deliver to my house as there is no stock kept in all the big box stores. So they wanted to deliver to my home, but I am at work! So I called every Lowes and was told by some of them, we have to check stock and will call u back. Guess what, no return call. Finally called one store and spoke to the manager. Explained about the phone calls and I had even been to one store and told they would get back to me. The manager called me back one hour after closing and explained that tractor trailers are coming in but are usually only delivering half the store is expecting so he could not promise when the dishwasher stock is really coming in. He did get a salesperson to call me who was able to track one down at another store. Called the store, they had one, I said great, let me pay on the internet site or over the phone...not allowed! Have to come in person. So next day got lucky, they still had one, and salesperson got it for me and helped load into my car. In the meantime another customer was asking the same salesperson to place an order for a kitchen fume hood that would need to be ordered from the manufacturer. The salesperson tried over and over again to explain to the customer that if it is not in stock then delivery times on websites mean nothing.

2 years into Covid and the supply chains are still broken. Only thing worse is trying to buy a car right now.

Over 2 mil people in our Toronto, Ontario area. In the last 3 years the number 1 type of store to open up everywhere is….cannabis stores. It got to the point that the stores were dividing up the pie so much that they asked the city to stop issuing new licences! So it sounds like u guys are still doing ok with the variety of stores/businesses .

GRIII reliability issues

Let's make this easy....which fixed lens pocketable camera with full sized sensor has no reported dust issues?
Does the GR series have more dust issues than other brands of similar type cameras, or do more owners just report their problems on the internet more often than other owners of other brands? Is it more prone to dust or because more pocketable then increased chance of dust?

Photo exhibitions in the digital age

Not sure what art, photography, definition you are referring to. The camera is defined as being part of the medium used to produce the photo, artwork, just as the pen is part of the medium when using a pen and ink to produce artwork. Therefore, canon, Pentax, Nikon are part of the medium used to create the artwork. By definition even photoshop software would also be part of the medium.

Photo exhibitions in the digital age

Please post after u go to view the exhibit. Interested in your experience.

JohnMc
“I'm trying to recall the last painting exhibit that listed which brand of brushes were used.”

Actually at many fine art galleries and museums of fine art the medium information will be listed….canvas, oil paint etc. I actually appreciated being able to find out what camera, focal length, speed, aperture was used.

I can tell you that the electronic displays at the exhibit were clear, bright, a respectable size. They also gave me a different feeling when viewing them as compared to a large print viewed at ie the International Renter of Photography in NYC. Maybe it is similar to listening to a musician that has a live band backing them versus prerecorded electronic music similar to what Ed Sheeran does. Close your eyes and they both sound similar but open your eyes and the experience is different (which is why the fans had a class action lawsuit against him…and they won!)

Photo exhibitions in the digital age

For the first time in about 3 years I went to a photo exhibition. It was “Wildlife photographer of the year”. It was held at our Royal Ontario Museum as a special exhibit and displayed winning photographs from around the world. Some had already appeared in camera magazines in 2021 that I had already read and seen.

Interesting, the number one camera manufacturer used in the photos was Nikon.

I have been to many photo exhibits during my lifetime….but this was the first one that had no printed prints. They used what appeared to be digital displays for each photo. Colours looked great, brightness was really bright. Just not used to going to a photo exhibit with no printed photos.

Have photo exhibits gone digital or are most still using printed photos?

Just shoot as is, have it developed normally. Worse comes to worse you will need to scan the processed film and then make software adjustments. People sometimes find rolls of film that are decades and decades old and when developed they look pretty good- depending on the camera used at the time the photo was taken.

You can add motorcycle and car dealerships. Motorcycle companies used to have test ride days, and even before Covid those have mainly disappeared. So you are buying a motorcycle without ever trying it out. Now there are car dealerships where they bring the car to you once you know what u want, and there is a North American used car company…you have to purchase the vehicle without seeing or trying it out and if you do. It like it, then return it.

printer question

Availability of consumables would be my first question in buying a new printer, and then the cost of the consumables. Use of aftermarket cartridges depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If it is a print that will last as long as possible and with minimum fading then there may be significant differences between some of the aftermarket cartridges. The only problem we have had with some of the lower end printers, and hopefully that has changed, is that some of them locked us out after a certain number of prints. Error code corresponds to the sponge ttt he at absorbs excess ink. Guess what, the sponge and the software to reset it are not available. But this may only apply to their lower end models.

Cars, motorcycles, house, and also cameras purchased used and new . Just depends what is available, how old, how it was used. Although sometimes people want a used item sold at a price close to new. So far every camera I have purchased with an extended warranty…have never used it!

Cataract experiences?

Mr. Hazelton, hopefully this will help you…
(1) do not make any decisions without fully discussing all of this with your current eye surgeon
(2) you will likely need both eyes operated in order to give you the clearest vision. With today’s advancements in cataract surgery, even the eye with a minimal cataract can still be operated if there will be an improvement in the vision of both eyes
(3) if you have your vision corrected for hopefully post-op 20/20 in each eye, then the viewfinder will be clear and the lcd screen blurred , and glasses will be needed for anything up close
(4) if you have a multi focal type implant then you may find that certain lens aberrations from the implanted lens may bother you, or there may be a compromise in vision. The vision ( distance better than reading, or reading better than distance)
(5) the preferred method of surgical correction is a newer type of lens called the enhanced monofocal lens. This will give you excellent distance vision and fairly clear vision at arms length. Your cellphone should be clear enough to read and the camera lcd will be fairly clear.
(5) there is also monovision, one eye corrected for distance and the other for near. With the advancements in the enhanced monofocal lenses this type of correction is likely being recommended less often.

Regards, David

I could be wrong, but did this take place in Asia, if the video is for real. I could not make out the printing on the signs of the building. In parts of the world this would not surprise me. The fogging machine was used by China for planes landing in the country, and it was done with the passengers still in their seats. The brief flamethrower and fogging will likely do nothing except for making an interesting video.

Watch this video from Feb/2020!
