Canon 7D vs Nikon 300s vs Pentax K7 ISO Comparisons

Nice cameras out there everywhere lol..Ive been the proud owner of both my isTds and also a K10D for some time now and for what i do at present i am happy with both:)..
BUT!! i also happened to have a play with the new Canon 7D attatched to the kit 18-200 f3.5-5.6 lens in thelocal Hardly Normans store and to be truthfull i was blown away with its speed of focus as wellas sharpnes.
Main reason for the play around with this new camera was to test it out for my daughter who is stuck on purchasing a Canon(mainly 5D11).
Next was a play around with a NikonD700 as well as the Canon 5D11 in the Rcoky Store and for the price differecne of these two later cameras compared to the 7D even though they are different critters designed to serve different purposes as well as full frame my interst still swayed back to the 7D when the daughter asked "Whatcha reckon dad:)???"..
At present i am not quite reay financillay for another camera Body due to previouse purchases in Glass,Flash etc but closer to retirement and a long Service Leave abroad i hope to be perusing what new bodies there are out there for me:)!!!$$$$allowing offcourse.
But yes as the post sezits certainly a nice camera with intersting quallity also.

HDR(s) whats your opinion? Too many/ too little?

My thoughts as well.I recently purchase two books off Amazon regarding HDR Photgraphy so i can improve what little skill i had in that arena and for me having taken the interest in HDR it opened my knowledge base with regards to Photgraphy aswell as the tools my camera has bulit in to it andhow to use them. HEAPS!!!!...
I advise everyone to take a walk down the track to HDR for a wee spell and see if it doesnt do the same for them also..

Photgraphy is an art (for me) whether used to take landscape Pics, Portraits, or Weddings...
As an artist may be good at Oils, another in Watercolour or Sketching each has a following and i cant see why anyone can knock any as being "Kakka" as the greeks would say:lol:....

Some HDR shots do look artistic and have taken talent to produce as some Good Photographers do with a landscape scene or a Portrait..
Each to their own, no-one owns the rights to how Photography should be used or displayed:)..
My two Bobs worth anyhow..

Auto-Bracketing with Remote on K10D?

I also have the K10D and have been doing a bit of Auto bracketing of late and mainly just holding the shutter release to get the five exposures..Still trying to figure whether the five or three would be more beter as with five i find most the shots not so sharp even with a good steady tripod though most have been taken during windy weather ..
With the remote its one shot per press of the remote button and like you say "A pain in the butt".
If subjects are static subjects (no movement) it doesnt matter so much especially for HDR.
Its where there's movement in the scene and then a single shot surfices better and manually under/over expose via your Raw converter, levels or whatever ..

Hope i'm not too late for this post but here's what happened to me:)..Purchased an 8gig SDHC card for the K10D..
Camera wouldnt read it "memory card error" message.
Tried it in the istDs and worked perfect????...
Forgot about it and just run with what other cards i had , then the other day at the local hardly Normans shop they had the 8 gig Lexma>> SDHC cards on special so i bought one and works perfect in the K10D???.
Maybe it the particular brand the camera doesnt like that you are using??..
Did you purchas eit off fleabay???

An interesting debate I started

Dont often get into these types of debates n know i shouldnt now but what the eck:D..As long as its all in fun..
On a seriouse note though:cool:, Do a count of how many proffesionals use Nikon or Canon Camera's as well as Glass and that should tell you something, no??..
I dont think that the majority of these professionals are coupla sangars short of a Picnic in doing so either..They just want the quallity to give back the return.
At least thats my way of thinking..I do own a Pentax istDS and a K10D and yep i'm happy with them both as they serve the purpose i bought them for .
Would i change to Nikon or Canon if i could afford it or had the spare $$??..You betcha:;):..And i'm not saying that to be unkind or bash Pentax in any way either.
Ive had a play around with all these sytems and my eye tell me what it thinks gives a better result..Mind you, like its said , its in the Photographer mostly rather than the tool the Photographer uses i'll admit, but being a keen Fisherman who cleans and fillets his own Fish i also know the difference between a good blade for filletiing thats costs more than a cheapie but is effrtless in its work, than the cheapie that does the job but your forever having to keen its edge and the job is more tiresome at days end..
Both knives fillet the Fish but the good knife is the pride n joy for its ease....

Recently purchased an 8gig SDHC card and decided to run it first within my istDs..Works treat then decided to slip it into my K10D and:( she no wanna work!!!! Comes up with card error os something to that effect but in a nuthshell the K10D doesnt want to know it..
Any reason why??..
have heard that some of the olde Cameras dont recognise the 8 gig cards but surely if the istDs can recognise it then so should the K10D???..

How do you focus?

Have been reading this thread with quite some interest and pardon the ignorance as i am an amateur i would like to ask a couple of questions if i may:)??..
PDL mentions the use of Centre Point Focus and assigning the auto focus button for doing all the focusing rather than the shutter release button.
Now once ive deselcted the shutter release button for focusing , does the Auto focus button then become my major focusing point in auto?? and how does one assign the "OK" button for focusing???..
Next query is Centre Point Focusing?? where does one assign this with K10D???...

Not refering Auto exposure with Auto focus point are you , in the multi segment metering point are you by any chance???..
Cheers and answers appreciated:)..

Jumping Ship fpr new Brands

Know i dont participate so much in the camera Forums but do log in quite a bit on several forums and read , mainly to learn.
What ive noticed of late or should i say for quite some time is people jumping shp for variouse brands which they percieve are Better ??, and maybe so depending what you use your Camera for??..
To be honest i jumped from the istDs to the K10D to be one of those who wanted better and have drooled over the new Nikon D700 with the thought that if i had won the "Lotto"...
And the other day whilst the grandchildren were visiting they wanted to watch a vedio on the plasma so let them watch "The Bee Movie"..
Whilst they were watching it as always i had my camera handy and istDs with the 50ml f1.4 attatched and shooting at anything that took my fancy including the Movie itself with no flash used and fo me i thought the results were quite good for an amature Photographer and with his so called old gear..
You might ask whats the point for all the rambling lol, but wish to point out that Beuty is in the eye of the beholder as the old saying goes and its knowing how to use your gear sometimes rather than the gear itself!!..
And unless your proffesion is Photography you can spend a fortune chasing that rainbow and jumping from ship to ship..
heres a copy of the said Pic:)..

Dont know how many times and on how many Forums ive read the same ole complaint:(..In all honestly if one was to do a tour of most pros out there they would find that they either use Nikon or Canon but also they have a deeper pocket $wise than most of us pentaxians hence what we own in Camera and Glass, and we do take the time to learn how to get around some of the hickups associated with this camera , mind you this is not to say that Nikon or canon are without their hickups also..
Ive only ever owned Pentax cause thats what my pocket or budget allows for what i believe to deliver quallity..
Had i the $$ ide be lying by saying i wouldnt head off and buy a Nikon D3 or D700..
I am quite happy with my Pentax and till i win Lotto i'm stickin with it:p:lol:..
C'mon we own these tools so we can remember or share our memories how we percive wevr witnessed them:)..
