****Edit**** I am an idiot. I think the Florida sun got to me yesterday😀. Probably should delete this but since people responded........Took my DA*55 to the beach and at some point I think the very front piece of glass fell off?! I don’t recall lens retracting/protruding like that out in open (see pic). Any one else have this happen? If I do find it, is it a piece that just screws on?? I got it about 7 years ago. Anyone know how much it may cost to replace or if it is a lost cause?

I own the DA*55. The lens is slow focusing for kids, but I can pick out a picture taken with that lens over any other lens I own. It has produced the best pictures with that lens, so long as the subjects are in focus and it can be a challenge. Now, I don't own a FA 77, but I can say from my experience I really like the field of view of the 55mm. It is a lot easier to take pictures indoors than with a 77mm prime. But honestly, I still find it a little too long for many occasions and I am really wanting to get the FA 31. So, in summary, I love my DA*55 and I would not part with it as it produces just stunning pictures (especially face close-ups). I don't think the DA*55 is one that has sdm failure as much as other lenses.

Yeah, The only problem with my camera is that is has is the screen will have those weird lines and sometimes the screen goes completely blank. I usually just take batteries out and put them back in and the problem is solved. like I said this is really intermittent, but it maybe because I am using eneloops?? You may try specifying the actual battery type "Select Battery Type" in the menu. I think the default is 'auto' detect, but you can specify alkaline or lithium...
Hope you get your problem resolved.

I have this problem periodically with my k-x, even turning it off doesn't do anything. I just take out the batteries and put them back in and turn the camera back on and it functions normally. It has been doing this for the past year or so. Oh and I have been using the eneloops since I bought the camera....4 years ago or so.

Yeah, the hack is universal. But if you leave the file on your SD card then it isn't hard to go back in and change the focus adjustment when you switch a lens. However, if you are like me, then you will also notice that the DA*55 will be the dominant lens on your camera so it may be a non-issue that the adjustment is universal:)

It is pretty easy to fix backfocusing with K-x. You just need to hack into the firmware, and I am sure a pretty quick search will show you how to do that. It is pretty straightforward and easy. I have a DA*55 I picked up pretty cheap used last year and I LOVE that lens. It makes me look like a much better photographer than I actually am. It really makes skin tones look nice! I don't have many lenses, but I have not regretted purchasing the lens.

I use RawTherapee. I love it. It has a ton of really nice presets and it is very powerful. The new version RawTherapee is really nice too. I have 32 bit computer, and it does run a little slow at times. But, other than that, it is really nice.

The kit lens will get no complaints from me. I shot a wedding reception with it (my sister-in-law). It produced some fantastic shots! I was thoroughly impressed. I still want the Tamron 17-50. It will have to wait though because I just bought the DA*55 and thoroughly love it!

I have a question about the K-X debug mode where you can adjust autofocus. I can adjust in steps of ten and I can go up well above +/- 200. How does this compare to the K-5? Are the steps/units of micro adjust the same? It is my impression on the K-5 you can only micro adjust to +/- 10? Why the apparent discrepency?
Thanks

I have a quick question regarding video mode on dslr and the "*" lenses. Can you autofocus while shooting video using a lens with SDM? I have a pentax k-x and I recently purchased a DA*55. Can I use the SDM to autofocus during while in video mode? Currently with the DA 40 I have to prefocus in live view and then shoot video and while in video I have to manually focus.
Thanks

My brother sent me a link to a funny parody on how ridicoulous photographers can sound to other people. He applies the zeal of photographers and their equipment to construction equipment. I laughed pretty hard when I read this. LensRentals.com - Hammerforum.com
If I am not supposed to post links to other websites...sorry.

Yeah, I have a sob story also. A month after I bought my k-x a lady was selling an old camera on craigslist for $25. Attached to the camera was a super takumar 85 f1.8. She took a picture of it for me. I told her I would give her $5 for the lens. What a freaking idiot. Whatever. I didn't realize what type of legend that lens was!

The midwest (USA) has some incredible weather. The first is a rainbow shot with the DAL 18-55 in Bolivar, Missouri (USA).
I live in the Oklahoma City metro and we have had some very intense tornadoes (and gorgeous clouds) the past few weeks. The last two photos (Da 40 Limited) are of supercell thunderstorms over the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (USA) metro. I believe that both of these storms produced tornadoes. After hiding out for hours on end in a basement, I am done with tornadoes this year! 2 F-5 tornadoes and 1 F-4 tornado within 30 minute drive is enough excitement for this year! I am a weather geek so this little tidbit is interesting, and the 2 F-5 tornadoes were 1.5 and 2.6 miles wide (widest in US history) respectively.

Ah, so if you want to earn money the easy way, buy some student season football tickets and then sell them. You will make more than enough to pay back the initial cost of the tickets plus enough to get k-01. OU-Texas tickets sell for crazy high! Same for OU-OSU.
I just graduated from OU (BS Meteorology, MS Civil Engineering). A good school and campus is really pretty. Norman is a nice town. What is your major?
