Yep, you can claim back the GST as you go through customs. There is a separate desk to make the claims. I did this with my K100D. You need to have all the gear with you, and the tax invoice.

Errr, being from Perth originally, I was West Coast, but never really followed them. I moved to Melbourne in 93, and rode the glory days, much to the disgust of people here. Then and started dating a fanatical Melbourne follower. 8 years and 2 kids later, the deal is we support Melbourne, and if we ever move back west, she converts to WC.

I have had 4 canon Digital cameras, and one month ago bought a Pentax.
I was keen to stay with Canon, because of the familiarity of their menu system, control icons etc. In stepping up from a superzoom P&S to a DSLR, I shortlisted the Canon EOS350D (Rebel XT), Nikon D40, and Pentax K100D.
Here in Australia the Pentax was going for $799 with 2 lenses, the Nikon D40 for $949 with one lens, and the Rebel XT for $1199 for one lens. The price alone was a big factor. But had the prices all been $799, I would have still gone for the K100D to get n extra lens, and in-body Image stabilisation. The Rebel was beyond my budget, so it came down to the K100D or D40. To get an extra lens for the D40 was expensive, because the D40 needs specific new lenses. That put the price at $799 vs $1249 for comparable packages.
After reading the DPreviews of both cameras I was a little concerned about white balance on the Pentax, but I was willing to live with that to leave $450 in my pocket. And after living with it for a month, manual WB is easy enough to set, or to correct in post processing.
I have already bought a 50mm prime, and 2 other lenses, all for about A$100 (US$85). Pentax really are the best bang for buck right now.

Hi all
I'm new to Pentax and to SLR's. I just stepped up from a Canon S3 IS about a month ago and have bought a K100D. I have lot of learning to do, so that's why I'm here. I have taken my first 1,000 photos and I'm enjoying the improvement in speed and image quality :)
Cheers
Jeff
