Hi all. Can anyone tell me how to use the distance scale on my Pentax DA 16-50mm lens. I have been reading about hyperfocal distance for landscape photography. But I dont understand how this distance scale works as it doesnt seem to be affected by the apeture setting or the focal length. It just moves in relation to the focus ring no matter what apeture or focal range.

Hi all,
I know I needed a flash for my K-5 to take good family shots so I went out and bought one. I bought a Metz 50-AF-1 and it looks great on the camera. But I need to make it work great too. Being a self taught novice can some one give me some advice on a good flash tutorial book. Thanks to "You Tube" I understand there is different relationships between apeture/ ISO/ Shutter speed when using flash. The first photos I took with my new flash weren't much different to the in camera flash (Blown out subjects at the front and under-exposed background). I had a look on www.bookdepository.com.uk but I'm not sure which book will start at the basic principles and lead to more advanced techniques.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dark Mist.
I have much more confidence in buying the flash now. I think it is just what I need. Still think my camera did a wonderful job taking the photos given the shutter speed was way too slow.
Should I use a diffuser or should I bounce the flash of a white ceiling for indoor shoots at day/night time? Everything I know is from reading and I have zilch practical experience.

Hi all.
Thinking of buying the Pentax AF 360 GZ flash for my K-5 camera.I have been taking indoor shots of the kids with my 16-50 pentax lens and I kept getting very soft and blurred images. After reading other threads on the forum I figured it was because my shutter speed was way too slow. The shots varied between 1/15sec to 1/6sec and the apertures were very wide. I had my ISO set at 400 but I now think I could have safely boosted that to 1600 without a huge impact on noise. Obviously I dont like the effect of the in camera flash.
My question is how does my camera know how to expose for the attached flash? If I use the flash to bounce of a ceiling how does the camera know it is not pointing at the subject. If I put a diffuser on the flash how does the camera know I have done this? Do I need to tell the camera somehow? Do I need to manually set it and how do I know what to set it to? I guess I need to know how to use an external flash. I'm sort of hoping I just need to take it out of the box, attach it and start taking photos.

Hi all. Trying to update the firmware in my K10d because I'm led to believe I have to to make my new 16-50mm lens operate. I follow the instuctions and download the firmware file on my computer. The insrtuctions say to double click the file and two files will be extracted. Only one file extracts which is the read me file. I cant get the fwdc162b.bin file. Tried and tried. Any suggestions ? I'm running Windows Vista. Is that the problem?
