Some advice required - Birthday Party Shoot

Ahh, I hadn't thought of that... sounds like a good idea. Do you do this with direct flash or bounced or does it not really matter, my only concern is that if I use the built in flash I may have problems with some of the wider focal lengths. Will have to test this out... I head that those translucent film canisters worked well.

Some advice required - Birthday Party Shoot

I have been asked to shoot my uncles 70th birthday without much warning and as I am away from university I don't have much equipment :S

I have an old bounce flash but unfortunately it fires at full power all the time on my K7.

The only decent lens I've got with me for the K7 is the DA 12-24mm which I'm pretty sure would handle just fine.

I'm considering either buying a Vivitar 285HV for $115 or renting an AF-540FGZ for 3 days for $60 although I don't know much about the latter. The third alternative I've considered is ditching the K7 all together and shooting Tri-X 400 film on a ME Super push-processed to either 1600 or 3200 with Rodinal developer. I have a 50mm f/1.7 for this camera all-though a 28mm shouldn't be too hard to find at short notice.

What do you guys suggest considering the circumstances?

Many thanks, roliver.

Hi, is it a 3rd party adapter you're using by any chance? I've had this problem before with them. Obviously the lens will still take photos no problem but if it's bothering you, you can usually alter the orientation of the lens by some small screws near the mount or failing that... sometimes a genuine adapter helps.

Oh... this is good news... the only K-mount stuff I've got is a DA12-24, a DA18-55 and an M50-1.7 so this should go well :D

Hey guys,

I was in my local camera shop today and saw a Sigma 50-200mm f3.5-4.5 'A' lens for £45 (circa. $70 USD). Unfortunately, I can't find much information on it other than someone selling a 'rare' Nikon version of it and the following page: Sigma MF 50-200mm F3.5-4.5 APO Zoom-Eta Multi-Coated ? Pentax-Fremdobjektive-Wiki

Unfortunately, I don't speak german and Google Language Tools doesn't like it either.

Does anyone know anything about this lens or has anyone ever used one?

Many thanks,

roliver

Samsung lenses on pentax

Nah... I wouldn't say that.. I bought the D-XENON 12-24mm in November for much cheaper than I'd have been able to buy the pentax version which is pretty damn good considering they are identical in EVERY way other than branding.. (even the same element coating). If you're looking at a particular DA lens you should check if there's a Samsung re-badged one before you purchase.

Mine's the square manfrotto one. It just sticks into your hand along one of the edges and I can't seem to get a firm enough grip with it on. :S

I always get confused by this issue because surely if you're filling the frame with a white piece of paper to set WB then the exposure is going to be off as the camera will try to expose it 18% grey?

It's worth looking out for the Samsung re-badged version of this lens if you're interested. From what I've seen they sell for much less that the Pentax version. Also, I'm pretty sure that it's been confirmed that the Samsung version is an EXACT clone, even down to the element coatings.

Ah, that's a fair one I guess. You can't really hold the camera by the grip anyway once it's got a tripod plate attached to it.

This might just be a silly question or because I've got a knock-off grip from china but WHY aren't the female tripod threads on the grip lined up with those on the body... they're miles off the axis of the lens.

I'm not one to give advice on the correct resolution for E-MAIL or anything but have you thought about watermarking the images to the extent that they'd be useless as anything but previews?

Can ME-SUPER use an Auto Focus (AF) zoom lens?

By maximum aperture I meant F22 rather than describing the diameter of the aperture opening. Sorry for any confusion.

P.S. Some interesting effects can be had in daylight with a 1600 film and a 12mm lens! :D

You should be fine as long as it has an aperture ring! I've even used DA-lenses on my ME Super but unfortunately it means they're stuck at maximum aperture. But it terms of A, F, and FA lenses you will be fine.

Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages

BAM! Best website I have seen for this kind of thing! Unfortunately, the flash you're looking at is not listed so unless you can find out via a google search, your only option is to measure yourself using a voltmeter.

I've only head that this is a problem with Ricoh 'A' lenses as the aperture pin on these can sometimes jam in the screw-drive motor slot! :S

It would be nice to see a good 135mm from Pentax. I'm shooting an M42 OPTOMAX 135 at the moment with SIXTEEN aperture blades. It is easily one of my favorite lenses, bokeh is amazing! But I personally think the 135 is a focal length that would benefit from some backwards-compatibility, i.e. aperture ring and non-crippled lens for those of us still shooting the first and second gen. of K-mounts as well as our DSLRs.

Some advice please

Hi all, it's been a while since I've posted here but I still frequently follow the forum.

I bought my K-7 in April 2010 with the kit lens. However, last November, I bought the 12-24mm F4 which, quite frankly, is absolutely marvelous. This is now, by far, my favorite lens along with my Pentax-M 50mm F1.7, however, the kit lens is now going unused and it seems wasteful to keep a lens I'm not using.

What should I do with this lens, should I keep it for it's weather resistance, part-exchange it for an A 28mm F2.8 or even one of the new 18-135mm?

Any advice on this would be brilliant, because currently, the 18-55 just doesn't meet my needs at ALL.

Thanks, roliver.

P.S. Forgot to mention... still shooting a ME Super!!! DA lenses do interesting things on film bodies! :P

A friend tried my Pentax DA 12-24mm on his old RICOH film camera a couple of weeks ago, it worked quite well although obviously the camera had no control of the apeture (constant F22) and also the image was a perfect circle in the middle of the negative.

I think that's a great idea, especially if it could be made cheap! I wouldn't have though it would even be necessary to have a rear LCD display on something like that.

I heard it was because they're easier to make in the factory that way, less preconfiguration I guess. And I suppose it's always better to be able to focus slightly past infinity than slightly before it!

I was walking along the beach with family on what was a very dull day. Fortunately, there was a break in the cloud for roughly five minutes as the sun was setting! This is really the first chance I've had to test this new lens and tripod but I don't think the results are too bad! :D Any comments/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, roliver.
