received the teleconverter a while back, but I've been on vacay. Thanks for the quick shipping! Haven't gotten to test it out yet, but it seems great!

Hmm, two Bill Murray films come to mind. Lost in Translation and Broken Flowers. The former is a particular favorite of mine... of all time.

I've been listening to The National's new album High Violet all day on vinyl. It sound so great. I was quite excited about it, too, as it doesn't release until the 11th, but my record store had 'em in last night, so it was a total surprise to see it!
I'm noticing more and more albums being released on 180 gram double LPs, too, with 256 or 320kbps digital download instead of 128. The only thing that sucks about all these double LPs is that they're more expensive. :hmm:

Wow, didn't know it was over already. That's what I get for going out yesterday, haha.
Congrats, dandog! This was my favorite, as well.
By the way, in the winner's thread, could we start including a link to the contest?

Even before the RAW compatibility updates, the card would still mount.
OP, is the card showing up in the Finder's sidebar or just not in iPhoto or whatever app you are using? Can you mount it via Disk Utility?
If you can see it in Disk Utility, you can run diagnostics.

I agree that that is exactly what it looks like: not in focus anywhere as though it wasn't in the proper range. But I tried several times and am quite sure I used the lens correctly. Yes, I zoomed first and then gave AF its time to focus. I tried fine-tuning it with the focusing ring, even. Also, I used the center focal-point setting so that it wouldn't grab random parts of the plants.
I used the Raynox 150 on it, too, with the same results. Clear up to 200mm, then not sharp at all no matter how I fine-tune the focus. That was manual and on a tripod.
Very clear image. After your responses, I'm going to order a replacement from Amazon. That's the easiest thing for me to do to see if it makes a difference since Amazon's policy is so great. I'll be sure to post back.
Here are large clickable photos. Sorry about the EXIF, Marc. I checked these, but I'll type it anyway.

Thanks! That's quite the compliment, coming from you! That Tak has become my favorite lens (particularly indoors, of course), and I can hardly believe how a $40 Raynox allows for such macro fun.

Having dealt with heavy packs on long road marches in the Army plenty of times, I agree with John that you want to carry most of the weight on your hips, not your shoulders. I recommend a backpack for this and tighten the pack to you well. Slack will pull at your shoulders.

Indeed, that is nice, although not the easiest to do in NYC. I'll be stealing my mum's iPad for all my trips for that very purpose. ;)

Indeed, it is the same adapter. I have the Pentax one, and it works great on my K-x. Just be sure to look at how it comes off. There are instructions that come with it.

I had the Canon PowerShot SD780IS in mind. I see so many people buy it and love it, it is 12MP, and the reviews I read on Pentax's new line of 12MP cameras solely complained about the fact that it had 12MP and that cramming 12MP into a P&S just causes noise. So that is what begged the question for me.
But I guess it's just that the Canon's sensor is better.

Welcome! I'm a semi-recent K-x buyer, myself, so I'll give you my perspective since I've just gone through finding answers to the same questions.
1. Because the general consensus is that the DA 55-300mm is worth the price over the 50-200mm because of image quality and the longer focal length (50-200mm is a fine lens, however), I would go for the kit that includes the 55-300mm. If you can't afford that, consider saving for it. If you don't think you'll be able to afford it for a long time, go ahead with the 50-200mm. I'm very happy with mine.
2. I would just search the forums for bag threads since there are a ton of bags out there, and almost as many threads on the subject. Popular brands are Tamrac, Tenba, Crumpler, Kata, Lowepro. Check out the brands' sites to see what style might be best for you. (shoulder bag, messenger, sling, backpack).
3. Personal taste, really. I use UV filters on all of my lenses to protect them, particularly since I'm still still rather new at this. Some say it makes no sense to put cheaper glass on a lens with nice glass, but I think the protection is worth it. Hoya is a nice medium between price and quality. Hoya has various tiers of filters. Try for a multi-coated one.
4. No, but you'll want one to reduce flare and protect your lens from drops and clunks. There are cheap enough ones that are perfectly fine that it makes it worth having.
5. The Dolica Proline Tripod is what I have and would recommend. I got it because it was only $40 and nice quality. I found out about it on this forum. Some have had quality control issues with them, but that is immediately noticeable. Mine and many others' is fine.
6. A lens cleaning cloth and/or blower. Maybe a little IR remote if it interests you for while using the tripod. Get a couple or few 8GB SDHC cards. Eneloop batteries are popular with the K-x. I'll think about what else.
7. There are threads on this as well.

Websites are cheap enough these days that you might as well have your own. Unless a group of people has a webmaster that isn't one of the group, it's going to get very irritating with a group of people all wanting to have something different about the website and having all the flak going to one of you.
There's no harm, however, in having a group for ideas and having your own separate sites that each person maintains by his or her self, respectively.

fiiiine, I'll post again. He likes to stare at the reflections in the iMac when the display goes to sleep. I don't know if he's looking at the things in the background or at himself, wishing he had a friend. |

Thanks for the explanation. It's a shame the Pentax sensor isn't better. I'd love to go Pentax in the P&S area, but if I'm going to spend the money, I'd want the best IQ I can get for it. I shall just keep drooling over the design of the I-10, hah.

Cool, thanks. Just North of FW, so my guess is we'll be going into FW and Dallas. I do like nature and museums. I'm not that into architecture, but I do photograph building that look interesting when I'm sightseeing. The only thing I know for sure is that we're going to billy bobs to see/meet Rick Springfield. I enjoy walking around cities though... much more so than shopping or the like. I'm an outdoor gal. ;)
The only thing that worries me about the 55-300mm is the extra weight. My shoulders are crap. But if you think I'll need the extra reach, I'll survive.

I'm visiting my aunt near Fort Worth for a week, and I've never been to Texas before. My glass is listed in my sig. What do you think I'd find myself using most often? I'm planning on putting the insert from my Kata DR-467i into my handbag to walk around with each day, so I don't want too much weight with me.
The thing is, I'm not yet sure what all I'll be doing down there. I can fly down with more gear just in case, but I'd rather not risk more glass than I have to. I'm thinking I'll leave the 55-300mm and roll with the 18-55 and the 50-200mm. Not sure if I'll bother with the prime. I just don't know what types of things to expect to shoot while I'm there, so if someone is familiar with the area, I'd appreciate some suggestions.
Thanks!
