That's terrific news. I haven't cracked the box on my new K7 yet, so I don't know if they even provide warranty cards any longer.
BTW, if Pentax is extending the warranty by 2 years for free isn't it unscrupulous that retailers are selling the same Pentax extended warranty for as much as $49?

I read a thread on another website (DP) that Pentax provides a free 3 year warranty and checkup for K7 if you fax in your invoice within 30 days. Anyone know about this? Info is sketchy at best.

Amazing video. LOVE IT!
Can you tell us a little about any tricks or workarounds to get the K7 to produce such beautiful video?

We share a similar problem. I also just bought a K-x and returned it because it just felt too plastic. I considered the Canon T2i, but today I ordered a K7 because I want a well build camera that will last.

Thanks, mattdm. I'll play around with the settings and see what happens. I guess I'm looking for some "magic" combination that others have already figured out.

I'm a new K100D owner (I very recently had a Nikon D40 for about a week until it failed) and I've been greatly inspired by the photos and people on this website. I'm attempting to learn how to shoot RAW, but I'd like to know any suggestions for adjusting the default settings to get some good JPEGs out of the camera.
Also, when you shoot in RAW mode are all the other camera settings ignored (contrast, sharpness, etc?)
Thanks!
Bob
PS: Here's one of my first "keepers" shot with the 50-200mm. |

Jim, you are so right. I went through a dozen AA batteries today shooting about 100 pictures - glad I don't pay for them. Can't wait for my Eneloops to come from Amazon.

Hi Grant! Any recommendations on charging and using them for maximum benefit. I'm going to Alaska in August and I ordered 12 batteries and a charger from eBay. I'll also take your advice and carry some Lithiums with me for emergencies.

Anyone use Sanyo Eneloops? I've heard good things about them.

I just picked up my new K100D from B&H Photo this morning and also bought a set of rechargable nickel-metal hydride 1.2V 2900mAh batteries. The camera manual shows 2500mAh batteries in their chart of battery types (see page 29.) Will using the 2900mAh batteries harm the camera?
Also, I have an unlimited supply of AA alkaline batteries (I work in TV and we toss out dozens of professional grade AA alkalines each day in the studio - they're used in our wireless headsets and mikes and they are changed twice a day whether they need to be or not - and we get to take the "used" ones home. Most of the time they have a full charge.) How well will these work in normal usage?

Just came back from B&H Photo and got a K100D kit and a DA 50-200mm lens. Haven't cracked open the box yet but will do soon. Glad this forum is here to help me with my first DSLR.

I hear good things about Beach Camera's online store, but their actual storefront in New Jersey is a dump. I drove 50 miles there this morning to look at a Pentax K100d. When you walk it looks like a store going out of business. A dingy mess with scattered glass counters filled with this and that. No organization at all. Most of the shelves are empty or full of junk. 3 or 4 "salesmen" were hanging around looking like they could care less whether I bought a camera or not - and they didn't. There was really nothing to see, not many cameras you could touch and demo, hardly any DSLRs. I asked one of the guys what he thought of a particular camera. He looked at me and said, "not much." I said, "and I drove 50 miles for those words of wisdom?" I was so bummed I left after two minutes. Stick with the internet store.
