Pentax K-5 AF accuracy

I returned my K5 over a year ago due to its inability to AF in low light. I was hoping the new K-01 would be my next camera but the lack of a evf is a deal breaker for me. So, I come here to see how the K5 is doing and find the same complaints and issues still plague the K5 over its AF. Whats the real deal here? Is this camera worth a second look, or should I continue to pass on it? Can it focus in low light (ie- indoor birthday parties ect) or not?

Has the K5 problems really been sorted? The only real test I have seen here was from Smeggypants and the verdict was no, the problem still exists. Is this just a placebo firmware fix or is it real?

The bottom line is that the K5 AF does not work in low light where the previous models do. This to me is the root of Pentax's problem, and one they need to solve quickly.

I would keep trying to get it off and if it still wont budge then I would send it back. At $1500, that sensor had better be pristine. But that's just me. Warrior Bee.

Your pics. are exactly the same results I experienced. Do yourself a favour and return that POS and get a K7. Pentax should rename the K5 to K9 because its such a dog in low light. Hopefully the next camera will address the AF problem.

My da*16-50 FF as well but not sure if it was as bad as the 40mm. I didn't try any other lens as the 40mm is my favourite for indoor shooting. In hindsight I should have tried my fa35mm for comparison but my two week trial period was ending combined with Pentax Canada's lack of concern and support forced me to return the camera. I too would like an answer to you question, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

For me the problem was just taking ordinary snapshots indoors in the evenings. They are not works of art, I wont be hanging any of the pictures on the wall and I definitely will not be posting them on the internet other than the example I provided earlier in this thread.
These are just snapshots of family and friends that have no value to anyone else but me. My K7 is capable of auto focusing in this kind of light but the K5 I had was not (with 40mm lens)and it seems that a lot of other people have seen the same HUGE problem with their K5's.

Yup. Frustrating,I feel your pain. Sony hit it out of the park with the sensor. Pentax failed to tame the beast.

Yes. I emailed Pentax Canada and they are not aware of any problem. Just as credible as the German report.

I think your on to something there. If I may make a small suggestion it would be to offer an optional back design where K5 owners can have their exact stain pattern printed on it. Every shirt would be different.Being a custom shirt you can obviously tack a premium price tag to it.
Something to think about....

Thinking back a few years now, I remember buying a pair of speakers. Of course one failed after the warranty expired so i took it apart to see if a wire had come loose. Written inside the cabinet in a felt pen was "repaired".So I guess you can sell a refurbished item as new,at least in Canada. I also remember I wasn't overly thrilled with the retailer who sold it to me.

If Pentax replaces a stained sensor from returning stock, do they have to reveal that it is refurbished or can they sell it as new? Does anyone know the legalities on this?

The guy just received his 3rd flawed camera. I for one welcome his perspective on the matter.
