Hmm maybe I should just leave this little question unsolved, as itis not because it is of any real problem to me.
BTW: Could someone tell me what 'washing' the frames in editing means (as TheoSixx mentions above).?

I am talking about the well known and often discussed MOVIE technique, where you trick the Pentax K-x to maintain ISO and shutter speed in video mode, by fist choosing P mode and locking the shutter speed before dialing to video mode.
My question is: Some people talk about selecting 1/50 and 1/25. But I can only select 1/15, 1/20, 1/30, 1/45, 1/60 etc. no matter what lens I am using..?
Is there a difference between european models ann US/asian models regarding shutter speeds..?

Thanks for your opinion on that, TheoSixx. You may be right, but I am a novice and not the one to judge on that.
I do not believe in Santa Claus, but I do believe, that frames without motion blur gets me closer to a cinematic look that I am after. I have no experience with 'Washing' the frames. That sounds like an interesting technique.
But with all that said, my question is still unanswered:
Why does some people refer to selecting 1/50 and 1/25 in P mode, when I am only able to select 1/15, 1/20, 1/30, 1/45, 1/60 etc.?

Thanks, TheoSixx.
I am living in Denmark (Europe). So I guess I am from 'Abroad' and therefore I should have the PAL version, if such different versions exists..
But my video is shot at 24 fps, and I can only select 1/15, 1/20, 1/30, 1/45, 1/60 etc. as mentioned above..?

Sorry..
I am only talking about shutter speeds that you can select in P mode, before locking ISO and dialing to movie mode.
I only see is 1/15, 1/20, 1/30, 1/45, 1/60 etc.
But I often see people talking about selecting 1/50 and 1/25.?

All over this forum people write about choosing aperture speeds like 1/25th and 1/50th when shooting video on a K-x.
I own a K-x and I do not see those f-stops.
What I see is 1/15, 1/20, 1/30, 1/45, 1/60 etc.
It is not really a problem. I choose either 1/45 or 1/60 for video to get as close to 180 degree shutter. I am just wondering why everyone else seems to be able to choose eg. 1/50..?
Can someone explain it for me?
/Ronald

Hi there,
I need advise from more experienced video-shooters.
I have the KX with kit-lens.
Additionally, I have the following line-up of (fully manual) prime lenses:
Vivitar (Tokina) 17/3.5
Pentax 50/1.7
Ricoh 28/2.8
Ricoh 50/2
Ricoh 135/2.8
Tokina 24/2.8
Tokina 200/3.5
I also own a couple of small zooms, that are not very fast, but might come to use in som weird video-situation.
Obviously, the 50mm is perfect for low light and crisp portrait etc.
My question is more towards the 17 and 24 mm lenses.. I just love the look and feel of those manual lenses, but that is also due to pure aesthetics and me wanting to look cool! :p
They are not faster than the kit lens.. They are a challenge to focus (small viewfinder), and the image quality is not better to my eyes.
I would like to travel with a not too heavy bag, and I both want to do lots of photos, but also some small videos on a tripod with controlled ISO.
I know how to trick the ISO to stay at 100 with manual lenses. Will I be able to do the same with the Kit lens? Should I leave all but the 50mm and the kit lens at home?!!

You can use a sony remote from an old tv or stereo.. just try out all the buttons and one of them will work. I found a couple of remotes in the dumpster! ;-)

Oh thanks for the Info.. I thought that I maybe had to 'match' the shutter speed somehow..

Thanks for all the info everyone!
Every now and then in this thread a shutter speed of 1/48 as a possible good option for shooting video at low light with ISO 100.
But.. on my KX I have only the options 1/20, 1/45, 1/60, 1/90 etc..
How do you set the camera to 1/48 (so it fits the 24fps)???
Also: Can someone please explain to me, why I get interference from electric lights at some shutter speeds above 1/60 (I live in Denmark and the electricity is 50hz)?
And also: In broad daylight, sometimes when I shoot a Bus driving by at 1/60, it is 'jumping' instead of driving, whereas if I release the automatic gain (the asterix), it is driving normally again..
I hope you understand my broken english!! ;-)
Thanks,
Ronald
oh and by the way, my gear is:
Pentax KX, Pentax smc 50mm 1,7 M, Tokina 24mm 2,8, Tokina 300mm 3,5, Ricoh 28mm 2,8, Ricoh 135mm 2,8
I only shoot manual, until I can afford a 10-20mm (which I only know of as automatic..) ;-)
