What's the first lens you would mount on your new FF Pentax DSLR?

Most likely FA 20-35/4.
FA* 24 is my second candidate.

Im also discussing a pre FA-body enablement, the 43 Ltd. That would fit nicely between FA* 24 and FA* 85.

I'll have plenty of time deciding, but thats my thoughts right now.

Ok. Technically you are right. Let me rephrase mysef.

Field curvature is a aberration, that is tried corrected to a certain point in most lens designs.

But it when field curvature is well controlled, it is also a feature. I hope I explained the reasons in previous post.

Please don't post gigantic files like that directly at the forum. Takes ages to load if you are on a bad connection, and makes large bills if you are at a phone.

Make links, or downsize.

Simply because I don't photograph focus charts a lot.

I prefer to photograph the world as I see it, in three dimensions, not flat. When I watch a wall in real life, I see the objects in the corner as further away than a centered object. You loose that dimension when using a flat field lens. And that's why good lens designers usually makes lenses with field curvature, ON PURPOSE.

The exception is macro lenses, they usually are designed with flat field on purpose. Because they are intended for a different purpose, to reproduce the word differently.

Thank you :-)

I can't help notice "What? Give me a break. Field curvature is not something a lens suffers from, it's a feature, and a good one, if you ask me.

I also see that they use the word "If". I read this as they don't take field curvature into consideration by routine. They only do, when they understand that the lens is designed with this feature. I have not seen that they have been explicit about this in a test. So I don't know really.

I think I need to dive deeper into this to know what to think.

Does Godox V850 do HSS with Pentax?

I'm not sure if bdery 100% up to date with every feature of the flashes.

You don't need a intelligent flash to do HSS. I know there re people doing HSS with the dumb Godox AD180/360 flashes with third part triggers (Yongnou and others) with Canon and Nikon. The intelligens is in the trigger, not the flash as far as I know.

V850 and AD180/360 shares the same FT-16 trigger. So I thought maybe ...

The title should say it all. Is this possible? I think not, but i'm asking to get to know.

The trigger that I bought with the flash (Godox FT-16s) does not support HSS as far as I understand.
Is there a work around this? Will a trigger that support Canon or Nikon HSS do the trick?

No thank you. I can read. I'm tempted to ask if you can see.

But that would be impolite, so I will not do that ;-)
-------

To me it seem that the majority of user reports suggests otherwise. I also think the pictures samples in the review does.
Maybe we should try to read behind the formal findings.
Perhaps the test has errors? I see a tendency towards weak results from wide angle lenses. One possible explanation is that the test methodic does not take into consideration that the lens has field curvature.

I've been reading the comments and reports on this lens, and can't help asking what criteria for a good lens is.

Many seem to compare it with the new Art 18-35 from Sigma concluding the Pentax offering is lower optical quality than the Sigma. Ok Sigma seem sharper, but look at the general rendering. Look at the bokeh. Not how much blur the lens makes, but the QUALITY of the blur.

By all means. If you need a super sharp lens, buy the Sigma. Or perhaps better, change system to Nikon ;-) But if you are looking for the pleasant Pentax rendering, it seem the 20-40 is a strong contender.

I should probably say the I havent tried any of them personally. I just speaking from my general impression from. The samples seen at the web. I should probably appologise for some typoes to, just in case ;-)

The calf is present in the 20-40 picture. That proves the 21 mm to be a inferior lens

And ambient exposure is controlled by?
Last time I checked it was aperture/sensitivity AND shutter speed.
-----
The key to understand what I am babbling about is the term flash/ambient mix.

When you reach the power limit of your flash, then you need to lower the ambient exposure to get the mix you are after. That's what you do with shutter speed when mixing flash and ambient. It's a pretty simple concept, when you know it.

This also implicates that you can lower your flash output, and thereby decrease the recycle time, if you are able to over power ambient.

Correct :-)

I should have used the term over power. My only excuse is that I'm not a native English speaker.

One third stop may seem little, but that's not always the case.

That one third could give you one or two extra meters room to shoot within (people tend to pose better, with a bit of distance from the flash)
It would also give me about a second faster recycle time in many situations.

But more important: It could give you the flash/ambient mix you want.

HSS is yber cool on paper, but has some serious limitations.
When using HSS you loose a lot of flash power. I think you are down to 1/8 of full power, maybe even less. This makes it near useless when it comes to killing ambient sun light.

Off camera HSS flash

I know the basics on how HSS works. It makes many small (short) bursts of light, instead of one biggie. And that makes HSS unsuited for action. It simply isn't enough light to overpower the ambient light.

The reason for my scepticism on TTL is that it's not predictable enough. Therefore I prefer to do all flash work in manual.

Thanks anyway sir :-)

Hm. Are you saying that I need to use a P-TTL compatible flash as master and another P-TTL flash as slave? That hoovers.
Does this mean that I can't use HSS i manual mode?

Please tell me that this is incorrect.

The question have probably been asked before, but I haven't been able to find any useful information.

What are the options if you want to use HSS and off camera flashes?
I don't think the existing IR system is an option for me, because IR tends to fail when HSS is needed.
