I am still satisfied with my white K-x, always get comments whenever I take it out. That said I'd just as happily have it in nearly any of the other colours except black. :D

K10D metering errors

Check for a sticking aperture on the lens, or a damaged lens mechanism. I had an old Tokina do this due to a damaged spring. (On K-mount lenses the aperture is entirely mechanical, unlike the other modern mounts).

Mind you I can't imagine that lens to be all that great, good excuse for an upgrade perhaps?

About the screws that hold the Pentax K-x together

If I'm opening a complex item I usually like to lay the screws around the item near the hole it came out of. So long as the work area is clear and well lit I find it works well for keeping track of screws and parts. If the screws are obviously identical or space is limited store them in containers.

Poor performance from A-50/2 on K-x

I've just picked up a K-x kit which I'm enjoying very much. When I use my A-50/2 on it the performance of this lens wide open is atrocious. At f2 the image has what looks like a double image as if the shutter speed is too low, but it occurs under all situations regardless of whether the SR is on or off, at slow shutter from 1/60 to above 1/1000, even with the flash on. I have owned this lens for a long time and while it was never great wide open on film, the image was still acceptable. On the K-x when stopped down to f4 the image is "okay" and by f8 the image is excellent.

A-50/2 at f2
crop full

For comparison:
K-55/1.8 at f1.8
crop full I only just got this lens along with a KM. It appears very sharp although the colour rendition is a bit odd.

18-55 II at 55mm f5.6
crop full

As you can see the old K-55 and the kit lens perform great under virtually identical conditions. I also have a old manual focus Tokina 70-210/4-5.6 which surprisingly is pretty good on the K-x too (once the Ricoh pin was removed).

So what gives, is my A-50/2 is just a lousy lens that can't cut the mustard on a modern crop sensor compared to film?

Which Nikon DSLR?

Hmm I considered a Nikon but was turned off because in order to use the primes wanted I'd have to stretch for a D90 (and the Nikon lenses aren't exactly cheap). From a value perspective Canon made the most sense as the lenses are quite reasonable and can be used on their cheapest of bodies, even the Canon ergonomics felt pretty good to me but... I just couldn't bring myself to become a Canon user :P (bought a K-x instead).

With a bit of luck this event (along with some other recent hoon law related incidents) is helping push the growing public disapproval of these laws that are grossly disproportionate and unfairly target young drivers in this country. In Queensland, Aus your car can even be impounded under these laws if you receive a second vehicle defect notice (which are issued ENTIRELY up to the discretion of the police officer involved, can not be challenged and thus are routinely abused.)

Furthermore we have our state government authorities issuing advertisements such as these:

What an awesome country we live in.

Pentax K-x or Canon 550D?

Here in Aus the 550D is 75% more expensive than the K-x and the 50D is double the price, yet the K-x still compares very favourably with both. Yeah, thanks for coming!
