I don't see your Hawaii photo, but I really like your idea of posting different trees from different places in the world. They're nicely captured too.

Thank you for the very nice comments, Bob. There are some really amazing people who are organizing efforts for recovery. I'm just happy I can tag along where I can. Like you said though, this storm has been a sobering reminder to remember what's truly important in life.
Thank you, Charlie. There are plenty of people doing much more than I, but again it's been great to see everyone working together.
Thank you, Tim. Much appreciated!
Thank you, Amy!
Thank you, Dave. I can see how so many prayers are being answered already.

I've been pretty inactive on the forum lately. I'm sure many of you have seen the news and heard about the terrible storms that spawned over 200 tornadoes (last count I saw anyway) and killed over 300 people in the south, including over 200 in Alabama alone. Fortunately my house and family were spared any damage other than being without power for a week, but neighborhoods just last than a couple of miles from me were not so fortunate.
There is an extensive cleanup effort going on here in northern Alabama and I've been privileged to help with a lot of it. I snapped a few photos on one day of helping, but to be honest I just took a few quick ones before getting back to work.
There's been a lot of tragedy with this storm, but to take away something positive it's to see how many people are working together to help others recover and start to heal. This aspect has been pretty amazing and inspiring.
Hope you all are well.
I had never been in this neighborhood before, but I compared to images from Google Street View and it is totally unrecognizable.
Can't forget this group. They were out all day long, from morning to night, cooking and serving food to everyone that lived there and the 1,000+ volunteers that showed up to help. |

Hey Tim, I missed this one in your series. That is pretty incredible that those "logs" used to be trees. Now you've got me curious and I'm going to have to look up more info on the place.
I like that last shot, nice perspective.

That's one of my favorite things about camping Bob, is getting away from the business and noise of every day life and having some quiet time to think and reflect. Now I just need to figure out how to get out of work and make it happen! :)
I like the reflection in your photo. Very nice.

Wow, that is a massive cloud of smoke. How sad it was started by an unextinguished camp fire. You've captured the scenes well here. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip.

Chalk up another casualty of this thread. I had actually planned on going a different direction but after seeing so many stellar images here I finally took the plunge this afternoon and bought the lens. This will be my first (and hopefully not last...might need to refinance the house ) ltd lens. I have you all to blame for this! ;)

Good to see you posting again CJ. You get to take photos in one of my favorite states! You really nailed that vulture in flight, and I love the landscapes as well.

Cool effect Bob. It almost looks as though the top part of the photo could be heat waves instead of water waves.

Alright!! I'm excited for you, what a great find, and in your front yard too! I probably would have been so nervous to make sure I didn't screw up the shot the shake reduction probably would have even been worthless!
Very nicely captured and thanks for sharing.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I love my Pentax gear, is to capture memories of my family that we'll be able to enjoy for a long time. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks, we did have fun!
Thank Heinrich, it's always nice to get some one on one time with the kids.
