My name is Colton and I have ALS.

My father had MND / ALS and passed away when I was only 7 years old. So naturally I didn't understand what was going on at the time. I have recollections of jumping in his whiz-bang electric wheelchair and zooming round the house when the condition really set in. Cheeky really thinking back, hope I got a smile out of Dad at the time.. I can't recall.
Science is moving in some really amazing directions so it is only a matter of time until there will be a breakthrough that will at least prolong the lives of those affected, if not single out the cause and eventually find that cure! Like you say Colton, it is not incurable.
Being partly a hereditary condition I could too end up with it, and apparently can be screened for it. I just wont. It just drives me to enjoy my life and my time with my family and do the things that matter to me.. Sometimes I forget and get drudged down by things. Then I think about Dad and get on moving again.

I am due to donate towards it actually. Time to set aside some dollars to this!

Good on you Colton for staying strong!

Spent christmas up at the Hunter Valley and it stormed on Christmas Eve.

Here are some captures I managed of a couple of strikes.. fascinating phenomenon really!

Aperture used is an estimate as I can't exactly recall what I had it set as.

Thanks for this - good to know.

Yes I find that a little distracting too.. will have a play with this later on as well as a bit more contrast to the background.

Thanks to eveyone for all your points, the main reason I put it up was my wife didn't like it so much but I thought there was still something to it.

I had other keepers from that day that were sharper but was also playing around at 1.4 for the sake of playing at 1.4 (fastest lens I now own..) - very hard to get your child to sit still enough to get the focus point exactly right!

For now though edits will have to wait.. he's just waking up!

Here's a shot I took yesterday of my son whilst playing about with my newest lens addition.

What do you think? Something tells me it's a great photo, but is it too soft for this scene? I am after all biased towards liking any photo of my son, so thoughts either way are welcome!

Is it madness to be thinking about a K30 or K5 (as a K7 owner)

K7 is still a great camera (I used my wife's K7 a fair bit prior to purchasing my K-5 IIs as an upgrade from the K10D).
I don't know much about the K30, nor the original K5.. though I'd be more inclined to spend the money on some quality glass before I got a new camera body (unless of course you're having a specific issue with the K7..?
If you're chasing the FF dream just buy in to the already available FF capable lenses and then you're set more for the long run in comparison to camera bodies which come and go. Just my 2 cents!

I like it! I often see my herbs out the back all wilted and never think to do a time lapse once I give them a dose of water...

Thanks for the post!

Yes, it's a great combo the IIs + 40mm Ltd.
When I was posting this I resized in LR to upload locally on the forum but it just lost all the sharpness and looked flat.. Have just linked to my smugmug account to keep the sharpness and do it justice!

Perhaps remove the lens from the camera body again and check that there is nothing obstructing the electrical contacts on the lens mount point.

Even if they appear fine, just try rubbing over the contacts with a clean cloth just to be sure its not that.

M42 SMC Takumar 17mm F4 or save for DA 15mm Ltd F4

Hi Guys,

I have been after a nice wide lens for a while and have always thought my next wide purchase would be the 15mm Ltd, though I was in an old wares shop near me the other day and the owner showed me an old M42 Takumar 17mm that on brief inspection looked to be in great condition and he wanted $300 for it. I'm pretty certain it was the F4 version and SMC coated.. but I'll go back and confirm later.

I'm now waiting for a M42 - K adapter to arrive so I can test it on the camera to see if I really like it, but I just thought I'd see what people thought before I get too attached to the idea of owning it.

I think I can get him down at least $50 on price if I go for it... or I could try and keep saving to eventually get me that DA 15mm Ltd..

On a DSLR I believe the 17mm has a 120° FOV, what about on the 15mm? 80°?

Essentially the 15 would be more practical I guess... just more time saving.

Thoughts?

K5II/s is it going to flop?

Well it's worked for me. I bought a K10D in 2007 and have had some happy solid shooting over the years, however it was starting to show its age and finally started playing up between shots (turning off momentarily - enough to miss important shots).

I was very tempted to upgrade in 2010 with the K5 but held off as I justified the fact that I can still take good photos with the K10D when there's enough lighting - so I bought a flash instead, problem solved for the interim.

Whilst this release might not be enough of an update to tempt a current K5 owner into getting a II or IIs, it is enough of a bump in my needs to have warranted the upgrade.

Everyone buys things on different cycles - this time I was due, next release will no doubt tempt the K7 owners out there as well as a good proportion of K5 owners. Me? Well I'd say I'm set with my II's for at least another 4-5 years, quite possibly more given the fantastic build quality and weather proofing on Pentax bodies.

Now to get back out there and start shooting...

I look forward to seeing some more everyday shots.

I've just pre-ordered my IIs and have been thinking heavily about my choice ever since given all these doom and gloom technical posts about the lack of AA filter!

Real world unedited shots is exactly what we need to see.

Cheers!

I've just pre ordered the K-5 IIs through DCW, too good of a price to pass up... Well that and my K10D is giving me the shits by turning off between every 2nd shot!

Hoping I'm not going to regret this (over getting the standard II)!

There is a simplified front end you can turn on for mobile devices - that what you mean?

Manage Account, Edit Options, Miscellaneous Options - Mobile Device Preferences - Yes

I find this works well on my iPhone when out and about..

Welcome along Martin!

Glad to see you're heading towards the light! I'm still using a K10D quite happily, still takes a great shot!
As a student the k20 is probably a pretty well suited pick, though with the release of the k5 and kr prices on all other bodies seem to be tumbling down to quite affordable prices too.

Good luck with the hunt for your new kit.. You should find just about anything you're searching for here!
