Great images but i decided to pick up a Panasonic GF3 with 14mm lens, adobe lightroom 3 thrown in for £199.99 after £50 cashback.
Still loving the Q but the GF3 is a nice alternative when i need a wider angle and i can keep that in my other jacket pocket.

I am thinking of buying this lens as the prime is a little to close for my indoor shots. I am a little worried though becuase of the fixed Ap of 7.1.
Has anyone any experience using this lens and and pics.
Thanks.

I went for the 1.9 prime kit and dont worry your wife will love it once she gets to see it.
I used to have various dslr- a Kx, sony a55 etc etc always looking for the right camera- after becoming a bit obsessed with tech specs etc i realised that i only ever really print normal size and the Q image quality is perfect for normal printuse. It has all the bells and whistles my Kx had but in a tiny pocket size body.
I think so many people have been put off this camera by silly site reviews its a tradgedy.
Before i bought mine i watched the digital rev review and then blunty's review on you tube. Its like they are reviewing two different cameras but i bought one because everything that blunty says is actually true.
And it is now also my 'favouritestist camera EVER' hehe:)

I would just like to say a big THANKYOU!!
to everyone who gave me advice and opinions in this thread.
I just seemed to have a bad day on my first outing and it seemed to set me off with a negative attitude towards my new K-x.
I have had it listed on and off ebay every day becuase of my initial love/hate relationship.
I knew once i had the K-x in my hands it felt like quality and just seemed to feel right but initially struggled. I have now realised that i need to take more time and actually think about what it is i want from a photo before i just snap and hope for the best.
I am glad that this forum has such a great community and i hope to learn and grow over the next few months so i can enjoy what is actually a fantastic litle camera.
Just thought i would post a few shots that i have taken this week that i like.I havent cropped or done anything to them as i was just happy to post them the way they are just to finally end this thread on a positive note from me to say i am very happy!

I am presuming that the reason i am taking pictures and they are all of a sudden having a dark wash all over them is becuase the batteries need changing?
The indicator only shows 1/2 yellow. I even reset camera and put on auto mode and the pictures look the same so i know its nothing to do with any settings i have. I have the latest firmware but i was suprised that this is what happens when the batteries are running out.
:(

I took this with the same settings but stood about 9ft away. I see what you mean now. I think i was trying to fill the frame rather than croping the subject as i have done here.

Av mode F2.8 shuter speed 1/80th and iso 1600.
Custom Image B&W
Highlight low key +3
Contrast +2
Fine Sharpness +4
Highlight correction ON
Shadow Correction LOW
Spot metering.
Taken about 2-3 ft and single point focus on the nose.

This still looks soft to me?
I did view other previous pics via usb on my HDTV and they looked a lot better than on my monitor but previous pics with diff cameras looked fine on my pc monitor.
Anyway........how does the pic look to you guys?
Any advice and i will take another pic to be checked.

Right i have now just recieved my smc af 1.4 lens and taken some photos and they are either soft or blurry.
Before i go posting any images can someone just tell me what settings i should use and i will take a photo using them and post the image.
To put it simple. I am trying to take a photo of a teddy bear the size of a baby. I want a nice sharp photo in b&w taken under standard indoor low light. I will be using the 50mm lens.
I will use AV mode as everyone states this is the best one to use(i dont want to use manaual as i shouldnt need to just to get a nice sharp picture.)

I think this might be a factor in some of my pics.
I will try again tomorrow.

Thanks for all the advice.
I dont know why but i feel the K-x is not performing well in any of the scene modes compared to all the other dslr that i have tried.
I know dslr is not just about scene modes but my previous olympus e600 and panasonic GF-1 the pictures just popped out of the camera.
Maybe the default settings for jpeg are just to soft compared to ther cameras.
I did not expect to have to go to so much effort to get a half decent picture with this Camera.
I am also now paranoid becuase i have a white one and all this mirror slap stuff is now making me think the camera is screwed.

The problem is that i had it on centre focus and aimed straight at my wife.
I took lots of pics on P mode and they were all the same.
When i had my Olympius e600 and panasonic gf-1 i found i was blown away with the photos. I sold them though becuase i was persuaded to get the K-x from all the good reviews.
Last night i took some really nice hand held lowlight portraits which i was impressed with but after these pics today i am rapidly loosing faith in the camera.
I hope once i pop on th e50mm AF 1.4 tomorrow i will have a fresh start with the K-x.

No sharpness, all washed out etc etc. This is the best of the bunch. I shot in raw and jpeg.I cant see any point in doing any pp with the raw becuase the image is just terrible. Can anyone offer any opinion as to why it is so blown out and not sharp.

Thanks again for the advice.
I have now purchased the smc AF 1.4. I will try manual lenses in the future but i think at this stage i just want to make it as easy as possible. Also my wife will find this a lot easier to just pick up and shoot when she wants to. After all i did tell her that i bought the camera for 'both of us' hehe.

I understand that a lot of the Manual Focus lenses are very good and a lot cheaper but i feel for a newborn i will benefit from auto focus as i snap away. Besides taking pics of my Son the general portraits will be head and shoulder shots. The low light capabilities of the f1.4 are a big plus for myself. I am not shure that f2.8 will be sufficient for low light even though i have a k-x which is good at higher iso. If i combine a K-x with a 1.4 then i should hopefully get some good images.
Almost about to purchase the SMC AF 1.4 so if anybody has any last minute advice please feel free to comment.
Remember my budget is a maximum of £250 so its no point suggesting lenses that cost more. Also remember i am new to all this so try not to confuse me.............hehe

I know there are lots of posts and threads and i have read a lot and read an awful lot of reviews.
Basically i will be shooting my soon to be born son and general family portraits.
I bought the K-x for its shake reduction and low light capabilities.
I was thinking of getting a 50mm 1.4 but have now been reading up on the SMC 100mm f2.8 and the Sigma 105mm 2.8.(also the tamron)
I have a budget of about £250 so can pick up a good second had version of some of these lenses.I was looking at the old manual lenses but i think i will be better of with Auto focus as i have never used manual focus before and dont want to miss any shots i will be taking by trying to get the settings right/focus.Also some reviews say the pentax does not have a limiter switch-would this make any difference as i would not be going staright from portrait shot to macro etc.
Can anybody who has both a f1.4 50mm and any of the 2.8macro lenses advise me on which they prefer for the tpye of pictures i require.
Many thanks.
