Help with Tamron 17-50mm

Yes. Upgrading camera body is definitely under consideration. I believe my kit lens too had the same problem. When I bought K-x I posted this question why image is not sharp? I thought it was the beginners mistake that cause the issue. However, when I bought 50 mm prime and 70-300 mm since the lens were correct I was back on track. I never looked back at kit lens. Now I am able to connect the dots. Thanks much everyone.

Sigma 18-300 mm Focus Issue?

Does anyone experienced back focus issues in Sigma 18-300 mm ? I received my lens yesterday and I believe it has some focus issues? Is it usual to have the focus issues in a NEW lens? Is there any simple test we can perform to find the issue other than the focus calibration sheet?

Also, is it safe to try the following found online:

Please have a look at the image attached here. I am trying to find whether I did anything wrong when I did my testing with Tamron lens earlier. This is with my existing Pentax lens. Everything I did is the same as I did with Tamron.

Thanks everyone for your valuable input. One question: Do you know whether it is worth to wait till November - December for some great offers? I never tracked this in the previous years, hence I am not sure of this. Earlier I used to see Pentax at Costco.com. Now I believe they are not selling it anymore. They sell at very competitive price and it come with a great 90 day return policy.

I own a Pentax K-x and would like to upgrade the camera body. At present, the I have the following:

Pentax SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL
Pentax DA 50mm f1.8
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens
Sigma EF-530 DG Flash
Pentax Remote for K-x

The following are the Pentax models I am considering at present:
Pentax K-r
Pentax K50
Pentax K70

I am a huge fan of AA batteries. Hence, I did not really look at KS1. Also, I would prefer to see all that are mentioned above to work with the new camera body.

Could you suggest the Pentax models I should consider for my camera upgrade?

I am unable to take more photos as I returned the lens.

It is correct the image was cropped. The photo was taken with camera kept at 45 degree to chart in tripod and operated by remote control. Auto focus system was AF-S. Aperture priority mode with aperture set to 2.8. AF-area - Single. It was pointing to the center text "Focus Area".

I bought a Tamron 17-50mm recently. However, for some reason I am not able to see any photos coming out sharp as mentioned in most of the positive reviews. I am a beginner photographer, hence need some assistance from this forum to know whether the NEW lens has any focusing issue. I read lot of reviews and did some research on testing the focus problems. Attached the test image for reference. Could you please review the image and let me know whether it is a problem with the lens or anything I am doing.

This photo was taken using a tripod and remote control. My camera is Pentax Kx.

Pentax K-x - General purpose lens to buy?

I have an old Pentax K-x. The following are the lens I have at present:

Pentax 18-55 mm kit lens
Pentax 50mm prime
Tamron 70-300

I am not happy with 18-55 kit lens. Hence, was considering to buy a new one to fill this gap.

Some of the most common uses for the planned lens will be to take photos:
1) Indoor photos - like birthday parties
2) Landscape
3) Portrait
4) Flowers/birds

In short, more of a general purpose lens that does not compromise picture quality much.

The following are the lens under consideration after reading the reviews. Before I take the final decision, I would like to take some advice here as my camera is the old Pentax K-x.

Pentax 16-85 mm
Sigma 17-70 mm
Tamron 17-50 mm

Please help me with your input.

Bower SFD926P or Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-4?

Finally, I bought Metz 48 AF-1 Shoe Mount Flash for Pentax from Amazon Warehouse deals. If it works fine then I think it is good buy ($176). The only drawback could be the menu navigation in this model. There is a firmware update also available for this model. I hope Amazon Warehouse deals are reliable.

Bower SFD926P or Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-4?

I consider photography as a hobby.

After reading the various discussions/articles on Bower SFD926P, I think around 70% are happy with their purchase. For others, they are unhappy because the flash stopped working. I could not find much information about the Bower warranty. Hence, there is an element of risk involved in Bower SFD926P.

Metz 36 Af-4, one can buy with confidence. It does have good support and warranty. May be I need to read the manual to understand how to use the manual zoom in Metz. In one of the stores I observed that Metz come as a bundled package with shoe mount multiclamp and umbrella. Not sure, why they are bundled with this Flash. I think Metz 36 Af-5 is the latest and it is not available in US stores.

Thank you for the input on Sigma 530 ST DG Super . Let me find more details about this flash.

Bower SFD926P or Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-4?

I am trying to identify a third party flash for my Pentax K-x? I am considering one of the following:

  1. Bower SFD926P Dedicated Digital Auto Focus Power Zoom/Bounce/Swivel Flash with LCD Display for Pentax/Samsung Cameras, Guide Number 125

  2. Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-4 Digital TTL Flash for Pentax

Metz, I am sure it will be a high quality and reliable option.

However, after reading reviews Bower also appears to be a good option with all the features of high end flash. Both almost of the same price.

If anybody had a chance to use the above mentioned flash with K-x could you please share your experience?

I read the following comment on Bower SFD926P :

"The only downside is that there's no indication when the bulb gets too hot. It just won't flash". Is this true?

Finally, which will be the best option Bower or Metz?

Thanks in advance.

Is my K200D the best camera which takes AA batteries?

At present, I am using the following charger and battery for my K-x.

Amazon.com: Duracell Mobile Charger With 2AA And 2AAA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF23DX4N: Electronics

Amazon.com: Duracell Pre Charged Rechargeable NiMH AA Batteries, 4-Pack: Health & Personal Care

This works well for me.

I have mentioned the above link only for reference. You may get this at a better price.

Anyway, I think I should try Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargable Batteries also.

Thanks,
Krishna

I use a HP 8GB SDHC card (Class4) and didn't observe any issues.

I bought a Tamron 70-300 lens a week before from Abes of Maine. They called me to confirm the order. They did ask me whether I had any questions regarding the product. Even after the purchase I called them with a question. I found them really good.

There are some discount coupons available in Abes of Maine homepage. Please don't miss that when you make a purchase.

I was going through the various discussions about "Processing RAW file in Linux".

I understand, GIMP does not support RAW, hence we need to have some plugin.

In one of the discussions, I found the following information:

Does any of our forum members do processing of RAW file in Linux? If yes, could you please share your experience on the tools and utilities like Rawstudio in Linux?

Thanks,
Krishna
