There is a little pin in the Pentax flash shoe, which has little spring in it for upward movement. It is pushed down (to lock position) by locking lever.

I quess this pin has stuck to the down position. Try to move the flash in the shoe gently asn simultaneously move the lever to lock and unlock position.

Maybe small amount of silicone oil can help too.... (dont blame me if you flush your camera with this oil, just an small drop would be enough)

Pentax K-5 and external HDMI LCD screen

Hello all

I am not sure if we are aware that we can use external LCD screen for shooting with K-5.

Manual doesn't discuss anything about this, the only closely related chapter speaks only about connecting K-5 to AV-system.

But it is possible to connect an HDMI screen to K-5 and see the very same information you can see from back LCD screen.

I tested this with HDMI cable having mini-HDMI coupling for camera and normal HDMI coupling for monitor, and by pressing the LV button all the back LCD information appeared to the big LCD screen.

After verifying this functionality I ordered a mini 7" LCd screen from

LILLIPUT 619AH Small 7'' HD Monitor, LILLIPUT 619AH On-Camera HD Monitor : COOLLCD.com

Courier company official called me yesterday that this LCD will arrive within few days. Lets see if this gadget helps me in the problems of taking very low level pictures.

Screen has arrived. First impressions without real use in the forest:
- bigger than expected, especially with battery
- "cheap" feeling, plastic quality mostly, but that was expected because of the cheap price
- Picture quality ok after contrast, brigthness and saturation was set much lower level than factory settings were

Because of the size of this combination, it would have been a good idea to check the 5" version first....

I bought an 70 cm HDMi cable and wrapped it together with an remote control. In the picture is the creen and the remote control and the combined cable.

Let see how this handles in real work..... :)

My K20 suffered this and it was discussed a lot here. You can find them yourself if you want some proof, I will not do it. I know what I am talking about and have no need to convert anybody. :D

These problems in the low artificial light was the reason why K7 got an sensor into its AF system to sense the colour of light. K20 and older ones didnt have it.

In my opinion my K-x shows very under exposed pictures.

Water and sky are properly exposed.

There is one thing you beginners dont understand in most cases. Camera and its exposure system cannot know what is the main subject in your picture.

It is only you who knows that, and so you have to decide to expose the picture accordingly. If your main target is in the shadow or in the darker part of the picture, you have to compensate accordingly.

Second issue is that exposure metering system is allways trying to make the main parts of the picture as light as middle gray. This means that it will not be very bright in the picture but average. If you want it differently, make an appropriate exposure correction.

In your examples sky and water are quite nicely in the middle gray area, thus exposure is quite correct. If you want it differently, please use corrections or manual mode.

This is typical beginners exposure mistake, and cannot be corrected using any automatic functions.

I repeat: camera cannot know which is your main target and thus uses average settings and tries to avoid burning any part of the picture to completely white.

If you want some part of the picture brighter, or/and want sacrifice bright areas, please do so, manually. But dont blame your equipments whe your understanding and skills are poor.

So, if there is something to be enhanced, it is your skills as an photographer, not the camera.
