I nominate this photo.

If the DoF was a bit wider the shot would have been amazing, but regardless, I feel the colours more than make up for it.

Nice shot!

I nominate this photo.

I have a fondness for long exposure shots of the shore, but this particular shot is very well done. I love the worn out structures, but the colour of the sky is amazing! It gives the picture a pleasantly warm tone.

Great shot!

I nominate this photo. I LOVE the colour of the water here, and the amount of detail captured in the glass is inspiring.

Probably my favourite photo so far, well done!

I nominate this photo. The framing is perfect and the clouds compliment the structure quite nicely.

One of my early photos that I was quite proud of.

Taken from a retired lighthouse at Apollo Bay, Australia.

I've seen a few reviews about it and I think I'm just going to have to wait till my next Tax-return to buy it, I've only seen it priced at $500 - $650 AUD. T_T

I have, but I couldn't find any decent examples of landscape pictures taken with the DA35, so I'm still a little iffy on it.

It actually is AF. I'd love to but I just can't find that Tammy anywhere within my price range.

I've thought about and I guess the kind of landscapes I'm interested in photographing are generally:

- Horizons
- Beaches
- Mountain Ranges
- Forests
- Lakes and Rivers
- Ports

In fact, I have a one week fishing trip coming up on the 6th of February, so I'm planning on testing it out the new lens then. I'm a little nervous about using a manual lens however....every time I think I've managed to nail a shot in the view finder I open it up on my PC to discover it's blurred out.

That said, I think I've managed to spy a Takumar 28mm on ebay....I'll keep an eye on it for the time being.

This was incredibly useful thank you. I'll admit that I'm still lacking knowledge in regards to what requirements I should be looking for in a landscape lens, but I've taken the lens's you posted as guidelines for what I should be looking for.

I think I'll search through the Marketplace before heading over to Ebay.

Oopps, sorry! Along with the standard 18 - 55 kit lens I own:

- SMC PENTAX M 50mm f1.7
- SIGMA 28-90mm
- PANAGOR PMC 90mm Macro (My pride and joy!)
- SIGMA 70 - 300mm Macro

All I'm missing is a decent lens to take some landscape pictures with.

You all do raise a valid point, I guess what I was really after was a body that would yield higher quality images, but the more I think about it now, the more I believe that whatever poor results I get are more due to my shortcomings rather than my camera's...I think I really need to sit down again and fiddle with the Shutterspeed's and Aperture settings of my lenses.

Righto then, I think I'll stick with my camera for a little while longer, thanks for the solid advice, gentlemen!

Greetings everybody! Hope you're all having a fantastic holiday.

I'm currently in the predicament of not knowing how to go about upgrading from Pentax K-x. I've been using the K-x for over two years now and feel that I can probably sell the K-x and start upgrading.

However, I'm not entirely sure what I should upgrade to, most people have advised I avoid the K-r as it isn't really a major upgrade over the K-x and that I should instead hold out for the K-5. My questions to you folks are:

How much should I expect to sell the K-x for and where would the ideal place be to sell it?

What camera should I upgrade to assuming that my price range is $400 + (Whatever it is I get for the K-x)?

Many thanks!

Haha, wow, was just commenting to a friend that I wish there were more landscapes around here so I can take similar pictures, imagine my surprise when I noticed the picture is from Shepparton!

Still, that's pretty damn far from Melbourne for a photo :P

But I digress, great photo with fantastic colours, what was the shutter speed at?

I just checked out both of your recommendations DCM and Paper, and I have to say the 35-105 would be well suited for the street scene and the 50mm is definitely what I'm after for some indoor photo shoots and some portraits.

Any link to the 35mm Omega? You've piqued my curiosity :P

I just had a look at the price of the DA 40 on ebay and the lowest it's going for is $420AU :S

I think I may end up having a look at those lenses you suggest paperbag.

I am in a bit of a dilemma at the moment because I favour primes over zooms since primes tend to be sharper, but like you said I'm going to be branching into two distinct areas....and I've recently been receiving a lot of requests to photograph indoor events, which is a pain since I lack a fast lens.

Perhaps I should go with the two manual lens idea?

Greetings fellow Pentaxians, once again I beseech your wisdom!

*bow*

I want to know what you guys would recommend as a good general purpose lens that can be used for some portrait and street photography, but above all, it needs to be tack sharp.

I have a budget of around $300, however if there's an incredible lens that you believe is an absolute must have and is only slightly more expensive....I'll try and fork out some extra change :p

Thanks again!

I can definitely see what you're trying to do here, and it's a great attempt but I agree with Fractal and would suggest that you perhaps try shooting from the other side.

You can also try creating a panorama of the bridge perhaps? I can definitely see interesting results from that.
