added to the last post,
the specs sheet doesnt add much more by way of specification than the stuff published on Pentax MX-1 - Pentax Compact Digital Cameras - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications
besides that its meant to be 'the expert compact camera'
the sheet seems to be a sales sheet wit the specs on the back. mentions 'brass top and bottom panels for a distinctive appearance after years of use' among other things, which i'm sure are online.

I just popped into my local camera shop in york, a pentax pro centre, to check when my K-r will be returned from fixing (the flash stopped working, being fixed under warranty).
On the desk was this new camera, the MX-1. i gestured to it 'that looks nice' and the guy stood by it, who i later learned to be a pentax representative, handed it to me. Clearly the shop owner and him were having an in depth conversation about it.
It had a medium weight and felt solidly built. He said it would be £399 in the UK, and will be on sale in spring. I said 'looks quite retro'- he said 'it harks back to the MX film camera' - i didnt think to point out the lack of a view finder, or the sensor size, or interchangeable lenses.
Although I have quite an investment in pentax, and was considering a smaller extra hand held camera, this is not it. It focussed slower than my girlfriends Panasonic GF5- which has brilliant quick focussing- a bigger sensor and the option of sticking a fast prime on. It also has better bokeh with the kit lens, which is unsurprising.
Size wise they are very comparable. thinner because of the retractable lens, which has a lens cap- (which i don't understand)- but slightly longer. I would never use the zoom- being a prime guy and the inherent clumsiness compared to a dslr's zoom. so for me, stick a prime on the gf-5 and the cameras are completely comparable- the gf-5 being cheaper with better bokeh. having said that, i do like how the mx 1 looks.
I didn't grill the rep on what they were going to release at cp+. or wether he was new since ricoh. or why there isnt a k5 II in the window yet.
He also gave me a specs sheet, if anyone is interested.

English apostrophes are easy. You put one in when there is a letter missing, because of an abbreviation.
don't = do nOt
Didn't = did nOt
We'd better get a move on..= we HAd
Sam's camera = Sam HIs camera.
James' camera = James HIs camera
(I know those two sound weird but that's the missing bit. It goes back to old english. The anomalie is that if it were a girl's name it still applies. Because females could not possess items, their husbands did (way back in history)) British people correct me if you know better.
I have no idea how the American apostrophe works, you lot seem to stick it in where ever you like.

I really really want canon to go down a peg or two. I really can't stand the feel of their entry level cameras, and I dont feel they deserve to stay where they are- Atleast in comparison to Pentax.
I think Ricoh could realistically give canon a run for its money, give them ten years. I feel Nikon is slightly out of reach.
That's just my opinion about what I think about the brands though. Not based on any facts and I'm most probably talking utter rubbish.

even if it won't affect the images, a knick will definitely affect resale value. for some people this is important.

I suspect that there will be more and more speculation if there is any leaks- which if there is anything big coming- there should be.

Snowboarding. I 'borrowed' the other photographer's flash for a more dynamic, "multi exposure" looking shot, but in one exposure. :)
Correction: its a 10-17mm, not 10-18... obviously.

To prey on the people who think more mp always equals better is my guess.
I don't think I would want 24 on apsc. I'd only want it on FF if I was going to crop to apsc.

Here in England I think that size is important. Smaller is almost always better in my opinion. -unless there is other overriding things that make the slightly larger things more desirable. Which is why I went for a k-r with a da40 over a k-7 as it was. Much cheaper too.
In terms of FF-IMHO it's a matter of when rather than if.
If Pentax under Ricoh is only going to be dslr and mirror less, and they are employing more staff and investing more money- they will do FF at some point.
Hopefully a Simmilar sort of thing to te rounded d600. Otherwise they will lose out. That with the limiteds would be great. Need some decent ultra-wide angles though.
With the shift from amateur-> enthusiast, Pentax would be well placed with its weather sealing etc and a full lineup.
Just my opinion though.

I don't think you have understood that correctly. To start with it would be more like 300 (not 100) on ff is the same as 200on apsc.
The difference in DOF that people are on about is the difference between the OOF areas produced by a 77/1.8(on ff) and a 50/1.8(on apsc). Both these set ups will have the same field of view. BUT the 77/ff image will have thinner DOF. (both setups would be in the exact same place)
I think that some people are deluded that the wider ff frame will make the bokeh better. It won't. The difference is made by using a different (longer) lens for the same shot. Thus producing a thinner DOF. Because we all know that the shorter the focal length is, the larger the DOF is. (as an example, a 15mm/f4 will have much more in focus (longer DOF) than a 300/f4). And to take a particular fov image on FF requires a 1.5ish-times longer focal length lens.

I think that FF is ambitious for 2012. 2013 it should be there. Ricoh will have had to be working flat out on it if it's coming 2012.
The sensors won't be available that early will they anyway? Maybe CP+ next year? I'm doubting photokina. Would very much like l be wrong. Hopefully we will have a prototype there.

77 is sharper throughout the frame. Or so I am going to believe- but I'm bias.
Also 40 is better than 43... No.. No it isn't. Ever since getting my 77 I have craved a 43. Just can't justify it.
