I took my K1, the D-FA* HD 85/1.4 and the Zeiss 21/2.8 ZK for a ride on Mo the Sickle.

We caught a sunrise at Shorncliffe Pier on the north side of Brisbane last weekend, this was with the Zeiss 21.

Did the article tell you why you should be following these women? The article I found didn't really give a reason. From the criteria the author used to select the women, I'd guess he was trying to raise the profile of some skilled wedding photographers whose Instagram profiles are not as popular as he thought they should be. Nothing about trying to force you into the wedding industry.

In other news, you might like these articles:

"Man is bemused by sensationalized title of blog he didn't read and jumps to an amusing conclusion that you never would have"

"How to stop making these 5 mistakes leading to wasted time reading content you have no interest in"

"Why every article on the internet isn't written solely for your interest, including this one"

Can you update just the camera profiles in LR?

Sort of.

If you shoot DNG files with your K-1 II, you can open the images, it just won't give you many options with regard to camera profiles. You can down load current ACR and it has an Adobe Standard version of the camera profile you can apply. The other thing you can do is get Huelight Profiles. They're 15 dollars and work pretty well (I use them with the stand alone version of Lightroom 6 which also doesn't support the K-1 II).

This is the link to those, if you are interested: Huelight Pentax Camera Profiles

I know, I know, don't get into it over Facebook. What was supposed to be a rather innocuous comment of "boo hoo, more crop system hating ", I ended up being pretty taken aback by her provided reasoning.

Attachment 284838

(I admit I may have been a bit snarky towards the end).

So hurry up Ricoh - I have pictures to take outdoors, so stop delaying the FF so I can be able to do that ;)

Sounds like the kind of reach I'd like to have instead of having to crop from my sigma 100-300 f4. I wonder how the IQ would compare between the two?

Sunset in St. Joseph, Michigan Wednesday night. The wildfires in Canada apparently affected our sunsets, making them even more dramatic than the pollution from the west coast of the lake usually does.

Ricoh no longer selling shims for focusing screens

I have changed the screen on my K5 several times. There was a factory shim, meaning one that came with camera and the stock screen, but it comes right out. Open the frame, take them out, the frame is empty. They are just loose in the frame.

There may be a little tab in there or something that sits in front of the very top of the shim to help keep it from flopping around when you're putting it in there, but there is no clip, nothing movable, and certainly nothing that would "hide" a factory shim. It is quite obvious whether there are shims in there or not...

Sort of. Imagine drawing crosshairs through the central point of your image. You won't lose anything from the image where those lines run, directly on the vertical or horizontal axis. The further you move towards the corners, the more of the image will be stretched out of the frame.

Let me see if I can offer an example. You start with something like this:

Then the software distorts it to something like this:

Then it crops down to this:

PTLens also has some limited ability to rotate and correct the horizontal or vertical perspective, if you didn't get it spot-on. That's why this image looks as though it was cropped a little more on some sides than on others.

21mm vs. 20-40mm...

Hi DRAbbit. I would suggest that you evaluate based on your own set of needs. If you read the user reviews and even some of the professional reviews you will see there appears to be enough weight of information to suggest that the zoom is sharper than the DA 21 wide open (which I can also support) and does not need to be stopped down to produce an acceptable image. For me, the wide end of the lens is only marginally less sharp than the long end. I know that Sandy's copy was unacceptable to him but don't be afraid to PM some of the current users and ask for their input and to see full size images. The comment about soft corners, is so subjective, debatable, may not even be relevant unless you are pixel peeping, or shoot a lot of brick walls. Are the edges and corners less sharp than the center, yes. But you can say this for 99.9% of the lenses out there. Can you create an image where the corners are more than acceptably sharp...absolutely.

In the end, this is a rather unique lens in form, fit and function. There are lots of alternatives, each with there own set of faults/strengths. But it is not cheap, so make sure you do your homework and figure out whether it fits your needs.

It has everything to do with retro looks. Why add a big, tall SLR-like pentraprism, if it's empty? No flash, no reason for it to be there except for appearance. Why add a shutter speed dial that has no 1/2 stop increments? Because it looks retro. Have to menu-dive for 1/2 stops, not very old-school. Why advertise the retro look and tout the use of legacy glass, then put a fixed focusing screen in, one that can't be user-changed?
Form follows function is correct.
But with the DF, form follows marketing. Function didn't make the cut.
Not having any video capability in a $2,700 FF DSLR is functional? Did eliminating it make the camera better for manual use somehow?
All the resources for modern video are already in place. If the truly 'retro' crowd doesn't want to use it, don't. Adding another extra button or dial on a camera that already has 23, won't hurt the sales. Not having video capability for those that do want it, does.
If squared-off body contours are so much better, better call Canon, Nikon (every DSLR body except the DF), Pentax and everyone else with the news. You've got a scoop. Everything those makers have done for the past 20 + years is wrong.
It's a niche-marketing ploy, plain and simple. If you like the look, buy it and enjoy it. But don't try to fool anyone into thinking it's some sort of answer to a problem that doesn't exist.
Ron
