I suppose most of those using the K5 IIs are delving seriously into nude photography due to the serious moire issues...

The whole argument regarding sports photography is spurious anyway. A good photographer, who is familiar with the sport he is shooting, can shoot that sport with a manual camera in manual focus with a lens of the appropriate focal length/range for the sport. Photographers shot sports with manual cameras for decades before autofocus or high-frame-rates (FPS) came along. Frankly those features are a crutch for most sports shooters...

And you do not need FF or insane amounts of megapixels or even dynamic range to shoot for any current magazine, much less any newspaper. The printing methods are outresolved by every current Pentax DSLR.

Our six-year-old granddaughter, Claire, spent last night with us and following her morning bath, I grabbed this shot of her exulting in the feel of the warm, "electric" air as my wife dried her hair. This child enjoys life so much, and it's a pleasure to capture that enjoyment when I can.

Why start with photography? Because I was raised to it.
Why stay? Because the voices in my head insist on it.

We can be quite self-critical when it comes to photography, particularly when it's a passionate hobby. Relax and allow the feedback and self-critique to be your guide to improvement - but don't try to force it. You'll just put unneeded pressure on yourself to improve. If it's any consolation, you're not alone: have a look at this graphical representation of a photographer's perception of their work:

It does help to have ample opportunity to shoot interesting subjects, even better if you like portraits and you look as good as this for self-portraits: Interview with Self Portrait and 365 Photographer – Anna Gay - Anna Gay Photography (it's almost a crime to be an attractive model as well as a photographer!)

There are so many talented photographers around that I too wished I had their eye and PP skills, but ultimately it's about forging an individual style and flair that makes those images you take uniquely yours. And if you can create such unique art that's increasingly effective and touches the audience in your own way, then you're doing well. Enjoy the journey, don't be dismayed by the long-term process it is.

If you have zero experience, why not just begin with the simplest to use and what is free..Windows Image Viewer, Picassa (much better), or what comes supplied with the camera (Silkypix)? Those listed in order from easiest to more robust.

My advice, learn the basics of the camera and the fundimentals of photgraphy first before going too deep into software...easy to lose priority and perspective if trying to confuse what is most important at this point.
