Yeah, I got mine on first release, about $800 CAD and 18-50mm and 50-200mm back in 2007. It still takes amazing pictures, although a bit more situational due to its limitations with clean images at ISO higher than 400

Yeah hahah, sorry I got my 'C's mixed up, 50% chance and I got it wrong. I do remember that it's supposed to have unrivaled low iso capability. Landscape hero

Definitely still a great camera, last of the CMOS sensors. If it had more pixels and higher iso, it would be a keeper for a Long time

How about the 35 mm macro? Does it improve image quality? It would seem you have to get too close?

I purchased a DFA 28-105 mm over the past Boxing Day but honestly have been so busy that I didn't get a chance to use it much. It was always a decision between this lens and the 16-85 mm. After seeing all these awesome shots, I am feeling LBA remorse. Opinions on how they compare?? I already own the DA 12-24 so ultra wide isn't much of a concern

Please be careful with the K5 combined with the PLM version of the 55-300 mm. It will not allow aperture control because of the new motor,! Auto focus will not work. Personally I have the DFA 28-105 and it's great. It was a toss up with the 16-85. I think the 16 will work great for your landscape requirements

Thank you for all the hints and comments. This forum is a big reason for me to stay Pentax. I buckled over boxing day and bought the 28-105 mm for $399 USD. I figured that I won't miss out on the wide end as I already own the DA 12-24. Also it is nice to get that little bit of extra reach over the 16-85 mm. Now, to get back to shooting....

Would the equivalent field of view be 32-160 if I use the 28-105 on my K5 I and the 16-85 would "become" 24-127?

I am torn between this lens and the 28-105 D FA. The 28-105 is nice for the possibility of going full frame in the future without worrying about vignetting because of a Da lens on full frame body. When I use the 55-200 I don't normally go beyond 105 mm anyway. Im also currently using the original kit lens and want an improvement. What are the opinions: the 16-85 or 28-105mm. Feedback is much appreciated!

Can someone provide examples an real world pictures of the 28-105 vs. a prime like the 35 mm or 70 mm? Ideally it would be on a older camera body. I have a K5II and am seriously considering the 28-105 as it is more versatile than a single prime. I already own a FA50mm f1.4 and the 35 and 70 mm prime were also on my consideration. Thank you in advance.

Can anyone share some pictures of the DA70 on a K1? The thread showing DA compatibility states the DA70 vignettes at wide open apertures. I am considering the purchase of one as well and would like to see some real life, unedited shots.

Price wise the 16-85 mm is on sale with $146 off. As the 28-105 mm is a new lens and not on sale, is it possible it may drop in price in the next two months? It so hard to fight LBA!

From the thread with DA lens compatability, it appears the DA 12-24 isn't compatible with the K1 until around the 15 mm range. Is this with out crop factor mode enabled?

I don't quite understand what is meant by keeping the door open for those extreme W/A lenses for the APS-C sensors. ---------- Post added 06-06-2016 at 07:33 PM ---------- I actually own a 50 mm f1. 4 and it's a great lens. I do find the focal length a little tight indoors. I suspect a 35 mm would be perfect. Since I already own the DA 12-24 I figured the 28-105 would be a good addition and it's also WR. I don't quite know if it is much better than the 16-85, and they are both $500 right now at bhpotovideo

Does the crop mode on the K1 work well with the APS-C lenses? From my impression, it sounds like a $4 k investment for one lens and K1 body.
