As some of you know, I use takumars not as photography lenses but timelapse or video glass. I love my takumars. Anyways here is a spot I shot with the awesome 15mm 3.5 S-M-C LOVE THIS LENS!

Does anyone use 6x7 glass on here? I am wondering how it looks on a 35mm sensor or super 35 sensor also APSC? Like when you are just using the little bit of middle does it get a lot of CA or flare? Is it still sharp? Just wanting to know because I kind of want to start buying them, but I wonder how useful they will be if I have no medium format cameras.. Also if you do use them on a 35mm or smaller sensor what adapter do you use?

Yeah, I make a living with my lenses though.. So I am pretty strict on what I use.. I own about 60 takumars, however out of the the 60 I own, i only use a handful all the time for my professional work.. others ones are more because I have the takumar bug and like collecting them all.. my goal is to own one of each takumar where there is a difference.. Like some super taks are the same as s-m-c taks in that case I usually just get the S-M-C version.. So I have a S-M-C 17mm fish-eye but I never got a super takumar fisheye 17mm because its the same thing but without a coating..

Oh I know, I have specific requirements I look for.. I want the original caps, and case.. I can tell when they are selling a different case for different generation takumar or caps usually... So I pay a little more for mine.. But I almost have all the takumars excepts the really rare ones.. Ones Ill prob get in the next year are 120mm, 1000mm, and 100mm macro.. Once I have those I have all the Takumars I would use for the most part then I can either start collecting the 6x7s "which I have a few" or start getting those odd lenses that were between sizes.. like all the different 58mm, or auto takumars, for the most part I just have S-M-C or the select few Super or just regular takumars because I came across a good deal or I like them better then the S-M-C version.. Like 50mm macro I like super better then S-M-C.. However I own both.. Or 200mm 3.5 tak I like better then any of the other 200s.. Examples like that.. There are so many takumars out there it is just over whelming at times.. however I enjoy collecting and Ill prob keep it up forever.. Unfortunately I am getting to that point where I am only buying one lens a year and it costs just as much as when I was getting 20 lenses a year haha. I think its because since DSLR's started doing video the price has shot up also I've collected all the cheap ones.. But I remember picking up 50mm f1.4 all day long for $10 I think I have every type of 50mm takumar made.. 6 total.. I have my favorite one :)

One day down the road I want to do a shoot out test on all the Taks to see which ones are really better then the others.. Like is the 8 element takumar actually better then the others? "which I know what I like and what I don't about it" or the 135mms which one of those are better. Weird stuff like that.. I would rate focus breathing, sharpness, color rendition and bokeh in a controlled environment with every lens shooting the same thing in groups.. Like wide lenses get the same set up, normal primes get the same setup and telephoto lenses get their setup. Enough typing.. one day when I find free time on my hands Ill do a crazy shootout with all the lenses.

Oh! I picked up a 15mm S-M-C takumar case the other day. If anyone is interested in it hit me up.. It was at a pawn shop and I thought I hit gold! but it was empty.. I all ready have my 15mm but a 2nd one is always welcomed! haha Love Love Love that lens.. I just wish I could find someone to clean it.. There is a little bit of dust in mine that on a flat blue sky pops out when I start doing color correction :( Makes me sad Everytime!

My Prime Lenses I use for Filming.. All Takumars

On the right picture in the case it has the picture of the whole set that I use in the field. 15, 17, 20, 24, 28, 35, 50, 85, 105, 135, 200, 300 all S-M-C and a Super Takumar Macro 50mm on the bottom right of that picture. I use it more then the S-M-C macro because of the 1 to 1 ratio

Yeah its awesome. Mine just has a lot of dust in it and if I stop down to like more then f8 it starts to show up in the blue sky... wish there was a online guide to taking it apart. Because I have all the tools. But I am afraid to just start taking it apart without a guide.

Has anyone ever opened a 15mm takumar before? I usually clean out the inside of all my old taks because I have all the lens tools and know how but the 15mm front element is weird.. Just wondering if anyone else has. Taken by my beautiful wife. :)

Yeah the dmc is good.. The 50 1.4 8 element in my tests are not sharper then the other tak with 7 elements. However it has less breath or zoom when focusing.. Which in photography means nothing.. In video it means a lot. However it still does breath. But the 55 smc is sharper then almost all the other 50mms minus macros.

Yeah I would like to take away the yellow. I am a Film Maker by trade. I like takumars because the color is just unreal and some of them will give most cinema lenses a run for their money. I shoot a lot of stock footage with these lenses... https://www.pond5.com/artist/T_RoFilms you can check them out there.

Also I did get to shoot a small budget shoot for a pilot using all takumars. www.Foreseeable.tv

Its just neat to get to buy lenses that work this well for so cheap. I still wake up laughing.. For example the 15mm I just got which was designed by Zeiss was made into a distagon. Well Zeiss distagon also created the Super speeds used for cinema a set of those cine lenses are going to cost 30k to 80k depending on how many. 5 or 8 lenses. For 30K I can buy every takumar twice.

But with that said, there are draw backs to the takumar lenses. Like Not all of them are great. Some are slow, or not that sharp. But there are a good handful of lenses that are excellent. My favorites so far are: S-M-C 85 1.8, 50mm 1.4 8 element, 55 SMC, S-M-C 35 f2, S-M-C 17mm, S-M-C 135 f2.5 with 7 elements or whatever. and the 28mm s-m-c...

The taks I do not like are: 400mm 5.6, 20mm 4.5.
For the most part a lot are usable but those two just are bad. The 400mm has to much CA and the 20mm is just not sharp I don't know why, but It just isn't for me. I bought a Bran new looking one two and its S-M-C. Just feels like I over Paid for something that isn't that good. I own a bunch more lenses that I did not name. But I don't use them a whole lot. maybe one of these days Ill start shooting color charts and focus charts to see which lens actually out preforms the other.

Thanks, Yeah now I have to UV treat this F2 35 S-M-C takumar. I did not know there were any S-M-C's out there that still suffered from yellow elements. Dang radio active lenses. Any Sugestions? I might just sit it under my black light. but does it matter which end to up the light and the tin foil?

So now that I finally have my 15mm takumar. I need to track down one of those non spherical versions. Has anyone ever seen these? do they even exist and if they do, are they any good? are there also the two versions made by zeiss in the distagon? Because the takumar is the same as the zeiss distagon 15mm 3.5 for con tax yashica c/y.. Just wondering.. I spent way to much.. But it was still cheaper then my other options.

This is the one I got. http://www.ebay.com/itm/390925959956?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Ok so before I bought the 17mm fish eye and 15mm takumars I put a bid on this one for $35 just for fun and I totally won! Now I am very very poor.. No more takumars for me for a while. We will see how long thats lasts for.. haha

Also took a chance and bought a S-M-C Fish Eye Takumar 17mm f4 from a seller who did not know much about lenses and said buy at own risk.. and it is perfect! So stoked! picked it up for $150. WOOT! I've been wanting a multi coated one but they are hard to come by in the 17mm fish eye. Ill have to take it on my trip to see the Red Woods in Cali next week.. I am just super stoked to own the widest takumar they made!

So I found a box of bellows units from takumar from craigslist and baught it. However I do not know much about bellows units. Does anyone on here know if this is a good find. This is what I got:

s-m-c macro takumar 100mm f4
asahi pentax auto bellows
asahi pentax bellows unit japan
asahi pentax bellows unit tokyo japan
asahi pentax slide copier made in japan
a 50mm lens pole thing in original plastic <-- no idea what this is
and a ruler that says normal on one side and reverse on the other also says 50mm lens <--- no idea what this is for either. Here are pictures of everything in order.

Also I only paid $75 bucks for the box:)

You Tube

Why am I posting this video.. Well I am a big fan of takumars being used for video.. Every thing in this video was shot on a takumar. Even the camera on the Jib had a S-M-C takumar on it. Most of the time it was the 20mm 4.5, The interview was shot on the 8 element 50 1.4. The EPK "behind the scenes camera hade the s-m-c 35 3.5 and 50 1.4 "non 7 element" The whole shoot used takumars from 500mm to 20mm and everything between.. once I have more links i'll post them..

Has anyone seen these on Ebay?

It makes me mad! for one the 50mm SMC clearly isn't an SMC its a super takumar with 6 blades and you can see where it says super takumar on the front. Mostly I am mad because Takumar never made a Silver edition or special edition lens from super-takumar or SMC takumars. This person is just striping of the paint and selling it as a silver edition. If you want a silver takumar buy the older asahi kogaku lenses. I had to share and spread the word so people quite buying glass from someone destroying these lenses.

This is my new camera! Sorry it took so long to post a picture of it. What kind of takumar should go on it? I think it is a pentax original. sorry everything is backwards because my mac takes it that way for some reason.. I am 90% sure its a pentax AP or original.
