Any tips for photographing air show?

I used my K-70 at an airshow in July. Used an older Tamron 28-300 lens. With low fly bus that way enough to get me close.

I set focus on continuous, Auto ISO for changing light conditions. I shoot aperture priority. It's tricky finding right shutter speed. You don't want to stop the propeller. A blurred circle is best.

Other tip...take lots and lots of shots as planes approach.

Here's link to a few of my shots.

Yes, I try to get the longest life from my cameras. But, as I'll be turning 70 in Dec. that's not an issue. Next camera will probably outlast me.
K 50 looks like the best bet. Thanks for all the help.

My K-x has served me well for many years, but I'm doing more shooting in lower light situations. Mostly wild life with Sigma 150 - 500 mm lens. Even at just 400 iso, I'm getting too much noise. I see there's good deals on the K-50 now. Will that camera have less noise at up to 800 iso? What other Pentax DSLRs are out there that handle higher iso's? Price is important. The K-50 for just under $300 could be made to fit our budget.

What was your very first camera?

My dad gave me a used camera when I was a young lad (4th or 5th grade). Don't remember the name of the camera, but it used 620 film...a huge negative compared to my Dad's 35 mm negs. Even had a flash attachment, that used a flashbulb about the size of a 40 watt light bulb. Sometimes it even fired!!!. Had a lot of fun with it for a few years and it gave me my initial love of photography.

Long Lens Limbo

Well, here I sit with the spring bird migration about to start and no long lens. My Tamron 28 - 300, died on me a couple weeks ago, half way thru my Mexico trip. Got most of the bird pics I wanted before that, so trip was still a success.

Took the lens into the camera store I bought it from and found it's still under warranty by Tamron, if problem is a lens defect and not caused by bumping it somehow. When I asked how long before I'd get an answer, clerk said the management line was 6 to 8 weeks, but in truth, nobody knew. Would have been easier if they told me the lens was a total loss and I could look for a new one.

Ok, so I'm looking around anyway. Amazon has a Tamron AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras available for $149.00. Says it's a telephoto lens, but also macro which confuses me as I didn't know a lense could be both. Does any one have any experience with this lens or know anything about it? B & H says they've discontinued it, but Tamron still has it listed on their site. It sounds like a good buy and would work for the outdoor wildlife shots I'd like to take.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Yes, you can't have too much memory....especially at my age. I only shoot RAW, so that takes up some Mbs. Plus, my wife's little Nikon uses the same SD card. Just got the K-x, so still learning some of the in's and outs.

We're leaving on a two week trip to Mexico in a few days and as part of my preparation, I did a lot of looking on line for an economical camera backpack. My pick was one that Amazon is marketing under their own brand. Other than the zipper tabs, there is no other advertising logos on the pack. The cost was just under $35.00, and after looking it over it seems to fit my needs. There's so much space I told my wife I have to go buy more camera "stuff". Those who are married know how far that went. There's serveral padded compartments that are adjustable with velco dividers, additional pockets inside and outside the main opening flap on the backpack plus two small pockets on the sides of the pack (one which is covered by the tripod if you have one strapped on. Here's a photo of mine, packed and ready to go. (Truth in posting: Had to use wife's Nikon as my K-x is in the bag)

Will be field testing over the next couple weeks and will report back on how it's working out for me. If you want more details just search Amazon for "AmazonBasics Backpack for SLR cameras.

Class of SDHC card for K-x

Just purchased a K-x from a memeber of this web site, should arrive tomorrow.
I'm looking for recomendations for the class of SD card to use. I take a lot of
pictures of birds in flight so it's important I have something that will write fast, but don't want to pay for a card that's faster than the camera can write to it. A quick check on line got me answers of class 6 to class 10. If a class six card can keep up with the camera's write speed I'd go with that, rather than buy a card that
wouldn't do any better than a six in my camera
