I've seen this a lot on photo websites, forums and brochures and probably chose to ignore it until now. What the heck does 18-55mm mean? What is in the range of 18-55 mm?

@ Ira : There's a amazon link as well. Doesn't the site get credit via them?

True, the K-7 is built like a tank. And i kinda find the allure of the magnesium alloy body very masculine. But at the same time ISO matters too since i'll be using the camera for a lot of night photography. Shooting in the snow would be very occasional viz. when i go for a holiday/trek.
Also, the k-5 retails at 1600$ on amazon body only which is expensive. So K-x with some external body-armour looks like a safe bet.
Oh yeah, the smaller the better. I want something that'll be easier to move with.

Hello all, am planning to buy a SLR and am going thru the franchise-worthy dilemma of choosing between the K-x & the K-7 (I know i'm not the only!) The K-x packs a lot of features for it's price and the K-7 is weather resistant with a magnesium alloy body.
1)Shud i go for the K-7 to save a later upgrade?
2)What does a good picture depend on (photo quality wise)? The camera or the lens? How noticeable would the difference be between say a pic
clicked with a K-x and one clicked with a K-7?
3)How strong is the K-x/what is it made of? And can i use it safely in the snow?
Cheers.

Q1) I wanted to know, uptill what distance in feet will i get a crisp/clear image while using the 18-55mm lens?
Q2) How noticeable is the difference between 720p and 1080 p HD video?
Q3) Also, i read somewhere that the new k-x will have a magnesium alloy body. How true are these rumours?

After quite a substantial amount of researching i've decided to go for the k-7.I'd like to know which is a good place to pick one up in mumbai? Also, how does the support service fare in comparison to other brands like canon and nikon?
