Thanks for all the replies! I actually have the K-x, guess I forgot to add that info :)
I love the grid idea and will try it out! Hopefully I'll come back with some great shots from Vegas to post.

Thank you!
I think I really need to wrap my head around what the numbers really mean on a lens.

Hi all!
Can you take a look at the lenses that I have and tell me if they are any good and what they are good for (like, close shots of the kids, far away shots of a baseball game, etc...)? And since I didn't personally purchase any of these - feel free to tell me if they are completely crappy :)
I would really like a good all-around 'mom' lens to catch pics of the kids and some scenery shots. Recommendations welcome!
One more thing - we are taking a family vacation to Vegas - which (if any) of the lenses that I already have would be the best to take along?
Thank you!
Jen
Lens 1 (came with the camera!) SMC Pentax DAL 1:3.5 - 5.6 18-55mm AL
Lens 2 (hubby bought) Sigma Zoom 28-135mm 1:3.8 - 5.6 MACRO
Lens 3 (???) Sigma Zoom AF-? 1:4.5 - 5.6 75-300mm

OK - I'm not sure what I did but I got it to work.... could still use some help though! I'm going to try taking it off and putting it on again and see if I'm still so lucky.

I have a SIGMA zoom lens, 4.5 ~ 5.6, 75 ~ 300mm. It says AF - ?.
Anyways - I was able to use this lens on my ZX-L, but I can't get it to work on my K-X. I've followed the instructions on 'using old lenses' but it still won't work.
Because I'm so new at this I would really love to have some live help - how do I find it? Seeing as though Pentax is not the hottest commodity around here....
Thanks!

Hey Dave!
I think even if I NEVER take it out of Auto mode I'm going to L.O.V.E. my K-x. I'm moving into it from a Fuji S5000 that I had for 6 years, which isn't a whole lot smaller. I really prefer a larger camera.
Thanks for the input!!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions/recommendations...
Got a call from our tax guy yesterday with a nice surprise - so I upped the camera budget and ordered a K-x in white with the lens.
It's a bit discouraging that I couldn't find a store that actually had a K-x (or any Pentax) within an hour of my house.
I hope to have some pictures up soon!!

Hi all!
I currently have a ZX-L film camera and 2 lenses - which my husband bought me about 5 years ago (it's what I wanted).
I shot about 100 pictures - and it has sat in the bag since. At the time I took a beginning photography class and had a hard time with the whole ISO/apeture thing... but I'm going to try again.
I really want to move into a digital body and have about $300 to spend (budget's a bit tight).
I can purchase a K100d refurb online, or possibly something from the marketplace.. there is a K2000 listed now.
Keeping in mind I am a COMPLETE novice and am not sure when I will move out of auto - is there a body you would recommend? I have seen a lot of reviews but am a bit confused about some of the terms being used (flare? soft? etc...)
Also - is the SIGMA 28-135mm a good 'everyday' lens? I have younger kids so my pics are mostly zoo trips, softball games, and family outings.
Thanks so much!!
