I might have to rethink my earlier decision, now with Rense and Jack coming back. These old guys need an old gal to keep em in line, eh? LOL
I've a few newly bought lenses I can test out I haven't played with yet. I'll let you know come the first.

I knew Bruce from the single challenge here on Pentaxforums. I will miss his wonderfully inspiring flower shots and great camaraderie.
For you Bruce from back when the single challenge was still a baby. I hope you rest well. |

Bruce had such a wonderful way with flowers, both cultivating and photographing. As a result of his work I see flowers in a whole different way. He was wonderfully supportive in the Singles Challenge and often helped identify flowers that I had posted.
Bruce was a very special guy and will be missed around here.

My God I don't know what to say. Bruce was with me from the first day that I started the very first "Singles In.." challenge back in September too many years ago. Since then we have traded Pentax goodies, joked and disagreed on here, and…I don't know what to say..
Though all those camera goods are long gone and forgotten, Bruce will not be, by me.
He was a true Aussie gentleman.
What a sad day! My thoughts to his family and loved ones...

This is so sad. I noted his absence from the forums and was worried. He contributed so much to the forum and was a real lover of photography.
Goodbye, Bruce.

I am sad at his passing. I didn't know him well enough, only through his contributions in the Single Ins when I was playing. I remember the well wishes thread, "Flowers for Bruce," and how his love for flowers seemed to be his passion. My little girl loves giving dandelions, and their precursor puff balls to her favorite people, so here is one for Bruce. Pretty by Jamfke, on Flickr

For me it will almost certainly be one of my newly acquired M42 lenses - either the Helios 58/2 or the 135/3.5.

I've decided to structure my first Single In... lens challenge. My biggest issue with picture-taking inspiration is picking a location to search out something photographable, so I've decided to visit the appropriately numbered streets in town, First Street through Thirty-first. I'm including Terraces. Hopefully this schedule will eliminate any doldrums I run into!

I'm in. My "new" ebay FA 50 f1.4 arrived today, so I could pair up with Joe :D. The alternative is to use my copy of Sandy's Sigma 70-200 f2.8  and I must admit that's my preference at this moment, but I'm going to check out the FA50 first before deciding. Either way I'll be there.

I had been going back and forth between the DA 17-70 and the FA77. With the bokeh theme it may be easier to use the 77, but there's still time to decide.

I echo Joe's sentiments. I am seriously contemplating rejoining the Single in .... Challenges to finalize the year.
Just making sure I can complete the month (workwise) and deciding which lens to use.
Cheers.

Count me in! It has been a few months since I have taken up a challenge and most of my lenses have already been through the drill more than once. However, even before Torben suggested a bokeh theme I had already decided that my fastest lens, the stalwart FA 50/1.4, would be perfect for the darkest month of the year.

I'd like to be in, I have a new K-3 and 18-135mm lens combo that is crying out to be used, however I am still not very well. To be honest I really miss the interaction the challenge gives me. So I think if it's all right with you all I'd like to say yes and just post and comment when I am able. It will be a lot of around the house shots as I am not able to go out much. What I might do instead of the new body and lens combo is use my DA 50mm 1.8 lens and bore you all with more of my militaria collection. It needs documenting and it means I don't have to think too hard about what to shoot. That way I can save the new lens for January.

I'm of the mind now that given what I have on the plate for May, that while I will be shooting film, I can't do it every day, and won't be involved in a May version of this challenge - should someone want to put one on. I think I could return in June but not May. In fact, I'd be happy to commit now to leading a challenge for June.

A new month and a new Single Challenge. All are welcome!
Ever wanted to find fame and glory by being Explored on Flickr? .......... Then why not join the Single in Challenge? The idea is simple:
Every day, take a picture with your chosen lens of the month and post it to the thread of the day. Then other members of the group will comment on your shot. Don't be shy and comment on other member's pictures too. Here are some more details
1. You need to join the group to post
2. This thread is only for discussing the March 2013 Challenge - if you have a problem this is where you ask.
3. You can upload your pictures to an album in the forums here, Flickr, Picassa .......... Here are some of mine on the forums and on Flickr.
4. Each day has a thread of it's own. Here is March 1st.
5. This is how to put your pictures from an album on the forums to the daily thread You Tube |
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wEEub4vjFc4?controls=1" allowfullscreen> |
if you post from Flickr you need to copy and paste the BBCode Screen Shot 2012-10-27 at 6.55.42 PM by patjapan, on Flickr
This all must sound a real pain but by Day 3 you will be an expert! I promise ;)
The only strict rule we have is it must be a Pentax or Ricoh body and the pictures you post must be from the same lens.
If you miss a day don't worry.
We are a very friendly, very international bunch. Come and try!

Hiya everybody
I was just scanning through eBay, as you do, when I saw for sale a Pentax K10D with 4 lenses...nothing too unusual.
Looking at the lens list one is described as "Vivitar close focus wide angle 1:2.0. 28mm".
I hit the Third Party User Review page and ran into the "Wow, how many Vivitar 28mm lenses are there?!?...which led to the bestiary page, awesome! Great Vivitar 28mm Bestiary
OK, so then looking at the info on that page and the photo on eBay, it seems that this has to be the Vivitar 28mm F2.0 MC Close Focus Wide Angle "A" series. The Komine made auto aperture version.
It seems that it is a fairly highly regarded lens and there may be people here interested in this auction.
It is listed on eBay Australia, so no idea if the seller would ship overseas or not.
I am in no way affiliated with the seller...just wanted to share...LBA anyone?
I also couldn't of course say for sure this is the lens, just appears that way from the info to hand. If anyone was going to bid or buy I would of course suggest confirming with the seller, asking all the normal condition questions etc. Pentax K10 D digital SLR with bundled items 4 lenses, battery and carry bag | eBay
My first time posting links...hope they work OK.
Cheers

I know Galilean Nights Astrophotography winner Masahiro Miyasaka uses a mix of Canon. Nikon & Sigma gears, but this one really caught my attention because he use a K-r & Samyang 8/3.5. Milky Way Hermit crab | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
A good reason to venture out into the darkness with your K-r!

So, time to wrap it up.
I did this month with my A400/5.6 (super?)tele lens. Boy I must say that it was challenging for me. You really need to get out with it to give the circumstances this baby needs. Only problem with this lens seems to be me. It need work and work to get best out of it(camera shake, focus, ect problems), and a camera that handles high ISO well...but that is another story.
build and handling, just great! Feels sturdy and focus is long and damped nicelly, so even hand held shooting is fun. Monopod is good equipment to take along. or tripod with good head.
image quality. Just great, you can't really expect anything more from lens that costs this much. Sharp, contrasty, when just two clicks stopped down, so you can have nice shots arounf 6.7/7.1...but at high contrast situations you can have some PF, easy to correct and sometimes I just don't care so much about it.
All in all, great lens to get you to tele world. It is really world of it own, anyoone that has shooted above 300 mm knows this. I realised it during this month. This thing offers some unique possibilities for landscapes and details, that I like to shoot. If you are interested of this kind a shooting and don't have 1000 € to invest, this is really good alternative with good enough sharpness. Oh and Did I mention that is has 9 aperture blades to make nice smooth Oof...Now I'm waiting for spring to get more light and more birds around.
Thank you all for this month!
I will pass on February...it will be crazy for me. Lot of work, touring, workshops and good old deadlines...darn. So see you in March.
