Sounds like a dead K-x to me if it won't turn on with alkaline batteries. (Barring batteries inserted wrong;))

Definately something I need to cultivate. Not the most outgoing person and not comfortable around crowds, but like anything you deem worth doing: it gets easier the more you do it. Gonna keep sticking my neck out. :)

Here's the un-flattering photo of the same bird in a different location launching into the air....

It wasn't more than 2 foot off the moss where it was sitting. I have another shot of it from another location that isn't very flattering for the bird, but shows it leaping from the moss and preparing to catch the first grab of air with it's wings.

More than likely, that's why I found it where it was! ;)
Heinrich, thanks for the input. I plan on getting software to adjust my monitor. That may be the difference between what I see and you.
Thanks, beer_nuts. :)

Thanks for the info, Ira. I was having exposure problems with a Chinon 55mm 1:1.7 lens. I was trying to shoot AV, and consistantly under exposing. Set camera to M, lens to M, and locking exposure with the A/V button did the trick. Thanks again!

Just want to relate this incident: I picked up my K-x with the 50-200 mm kit lens from the table underneath the carport, and headed into the house. The stock strap (which I never use) caught on the neck of a gas can, and jerked the camera out of my hand as I was walking away, onto the concrete floor! Surprisingly, I can detect no damage. I'm impressed! BTW, strap is no longer on the camera. :) I love my K-x!

Hi! I got the kit with the 18-55 and 50-200 lenses. Enjoying the hell out of it! Still reading on the manual (and probally will be referencing it for some time). So many options available! I think I made the right choice.

I'm a total noob when it comes to DSLR cameras, although I have used 35mm slrs in the way-far back. I've been using the point an shoots for some time, and been wanting a pentax for a number of years. I ordered a K-x last week, and I am expecting it in in a couple days. I feels like a kid waiting for Santy Claus! :)
