Many thanks - I hope I hadn't stripped the screws already.
I'll order a set of JIS screwdrivers, if it'll fail I'll send it to a local shop for repair (although Pentax specialists here are very rare).
I hope this great lens can be salvaged.

I have an almost mint PK-M 50/1.4 lens.
Suddenly and without hitting or dropping the lens the focus ring got stuck at the close end of the scale and I cannot focus past 0.5m or so.
The aperture ring also became clunky and there is a sound of something loose within the lens.
Following advice found on several threads here and in other forums I tried to open the back-plate to get access to the inside works of the lens, but alas! three of the five screws will not open (using a watchmaker Philips screwdriver), am I using the wrong screwdriver, are stuck screws a known issues in these old (>30 years) lenses? what can be done to save this great instrument?
Many thanks in advance.

Killer feature or not, the K-5 seems like a fine APS-C DSLR, actually one of the best currently availabe and sits nicely as Pentax top offering in this segment.
For me, it shows that I have a sound upgrade path from my K20D (the K-7 was lacking in several aspects) once I decide to upgrade.
Pentax has made a few decisions that looked dubious in the past but now may look much wiser --
* Sticking to the APS-C market and investing in the 645D as their real Pro camera. I was hoping for a Pentax FF, but they have no chance in this market along with the sharks (Canon, Nikon and Sony) and as APS-C sensors are improving vastly - dynamic range and SNR are satisfactory. Want supreme DOF control, resolution and dynamic range? go for the 645D.
* Putting only SD slots in all their cameras even the 645D. It seems now that the SD format is slowly making CF obsolete.

New to this forum and rather new to Pentax equipment (1.5 years).
I currently own 3 Pentax-M lenses
35/2.0 - My favorite, normal lens on my K20D, sharp at 2.0, razor sharp at 4.0.
50/1.4 - Could be my copy, but the lens, although beautifully mechanically made, is extremely soft at 1.4, still soft at 2.0 and really getting sharp above 2.8. I use it from time to time, but it fell from grace once I got the 35/2.0
150/3.5 - very pentax-like to make this bizare focal-length lens (for 35mm system). Got it because I wanted a telephoto and was/is on a very tight budget. Contrast is a bit lacking and pictures are often washed-out, but once I got to know its limitations, it gives me a lot of reach for $80.
