Having a dilemma over a DA15 vs HD DA 20-40 vs Sigma 17-50 mm vs Tamron 17-50 mm F2.8
All good lens, really like the HD DA 20-40 mm, but wondering what it is like for night skys and
Northern lights photography. Have checked out the Samyang 14 & 16 mm lens (very sketchy
quality control, not to mention weight).
Could really use some input as to the best of the bunch for night and landscape photography.
All suggestions and advice appreciated.

I would be looking at Marumi as I have a couple of their polarizers and an quite impress with the $$$ vs quality ratio of their products.
2filter.com shows a 77mm @ $162 U.S.(Marumi 77mm DHG Variable ND2-ND400 Filter). I have a promaster 49mm and a "Cameron"
52mm Variable ND and would be hard pressed to recommend either of them.

My Kx's light meter won't function with the Bower / Samyang 16mm on it.
Anyone else had this issue and know of a fix.
I know the lens is full manual but the light meter should work - Right ?
P.S. took some great Northern Lights photo's with it just after I picked it up.

Just picked up a Bower Cine T2.2 for $330 Cdn & took some amazing northern lights shots the 1st night I had it.
Haven't had time to really test but so far so good if you are O'k with full manual.
Bower is a re- badged Samyang - the Cine version has no F detents.
Purchased through London Drugs camera dept. so I have 14 days to evaluate and no hassle if I don' like it.
P.S. - the 16mm has a77mm filter thread - the 14mm doesn't

Big vistas& night sky's - the Samyang 16mm for sure - the DA 15 would be my 2nd choice.

Just curious - 92 second exposure - how come no smearing or star trails.(whats your secret ?)
BTW - An amazing shot - I'm lucky to live near some super dark areas close to the Rocky Mountains

In my never ending search for a budget 16mm that's good for night photography
came across the Bower (Samyang) 16mm T2.2 Cine.
Manual focus of course, but wondering if anyone has any input on this one.
London Drugs has them @ $360 Cdn and are willing to bring one in for my
Camera

I concur with DOC - One sweet lens - it is always in my camera bag and back pack on hikes.
Now if they only made the DA15 at say F2.8 LOL.

Samyang 10mm vs. DA15
I'm not concerned with the weight ,filters, auto focus just the quality of pictures
And wide angle capability. A little concerned about waranty on the Samyang.
Landscapes and night sky's are what I'd be using either of these for.
Anyone out there have both ?
All opinions appreciated in advance

My biggest concern is it may affect the SR system.
Won't be using any magnets to hold the camera is place (Have a lightweight Sunwayfoto FB28 ballhead and their panning clamp ) but for holding the
leg assemblies together while they're packed up.
Will try post some photo's of the 1st prototype soon.
Uses my 2 hiking poles and a 3 section Easton alum. tent pole which I which I need and carry anyway.
Happy with the stability and it's less that 200 grams without the ballhead
but lengthy set time and a couple design flaws I didn't catch until it was too late have me working on design #2.
Thanks for all your input folks.

Working on a backpack tripod system (Prototype #2) and was wondering if anyone knows for sure.
Do strong magnetic fields have an adverse / permanent effect on the various electronics in DLSR's ?
Trying to keep things ultralight and thinking of using some super magnets to hold thing together.
Any and all input from you folks out there appreciated in advance.

Have been searching for a tripod that I can keep in my ski pack and stumbled across Sirui's line of products.
My Wish List:
Weight: Under 3lbs
Folded Length: Under 17"
Max. Load: 15lbs
Anyone out there own or have demo'd a T1205X or N2205 tripod?
Recently took a good look at a M2204 and was impressed with the built quality on this carbon fibre model, just a tad too long (folded) for me though.
Any others brands that come close at under $400 Cdn ?
Thanks In Advance for any input you might have.

Have been checking out the Benro - "Travel Angel Series" - the TRCB carbon units look mighty attractive - model #TRCB269 folds down to 15" and feels quite stable - 26Lbs load rated.
