I can't imagine either being a bad deal for the cost right now...personally i'd shoot for the k-3 (no pun intended) but I'd be happy with either as an upgrade.

First-time challenge attempt...tight crop, bit of color adjustment...that's about it :)

it's not in focus at all when i'm taking the picture or in playback. and i appreciate the idea of manual focus but i bought this lens because of its auto capability. i also inherited the manual 50mm 1.7 and i wanted something that would auto-focus. it only happens with this lens which makes me wonder if there's something off about the connection between the F and the k5...i don't know, but it's driving me nuts!

Hi everyone. I apologize if this is an already-discussed topic, but i couldn't locate one so I thought I'd post here. I bought my K-5 a few months ago and am just thrilled with it. I recently picked up a used and quite inexpensive SMC-F 50mm 1.7 and i'm loving the portraiture potential.
My difficulty is that I'm trying to shoot in live-view to ensure that my focus is dead on the eyes (i really want them to pop) and in liveview, whether i push the AF button or the shutter release and regardless of the AF collar position, the camera will focus in, focus out a bit, and say it's in focus, when NOTHING in the frame is even close.
Is this a simple settings fix? I've run through the manual a few times but not even sure what I'm looking for. Anyone else?

i'd really like to do some nice portrait work and am looking for something in the 31-40 range (like the old school 50mm of film)...i like the look of the FA 35mm 2.0...any others folks would recommend? thanks for your recommendation Rob...i'll take a look!
LeDave, I was worried about it being so cheap...maybe an older model. It was sort of embarrassing asking the guy if i could use his computer to check shutter count and date of manufacture, but for that price, how could i pass it up!
thanks for the warm welcome folks. all the best!

Thanks Rob...I have a few legacy primes but still on the prowl for affordable auto-focus ones :)

Just upgraded to the big times! I've been shooting for the last six years with a *ist DS. Just found a great deal on a used K-5 with the 18-135 WR kit for 900.00 CDN. Was unsure of how well-used, so I checked with the shutter count here on the forums...Manufactured in April 2012, with 158 shutter actuations. I am absolutely in HEAVEN!

Hey all...thought I'd say a quick hello from Calgary, Alberta, where the snow continues to fall but the spirits are always on the rise (both the human and alcoholic sort). Owned a *ist DS for awhile now, and looking forward to the purchase of the k-7 in the near future. Glad to have found this place!
