I finally got to the snow yesterday and had a ball getting some action shots.

Used Pentax SMC FA* 80-200mm f/2.8, Sigma 10-20mm and SIgma 17-70mm lenses. Levels only and some cropping on last image.

Enjoy.

Australian Retailers Carrying Pentax?

I went into Ted's Camera in Canberra today, they had the K-7 on dispay and I had a hands on play with it.

Focus is definately very fast and the shutter noise well dampened.

The sales rep was very praising of the K-7 and even went on to say the image quality is the best AND the Live View focussing is the fastest he has seen in any DSLR with video.

I acted dumb and pretended not to know anything about Pentax, he did not try to swing me away towards Canon or Nikon.

I think I will need to feel the camera with a battery grip on it first. I am so used to my K10 and K20 with grips.

Radio Trigger and AF540FGZ - Not working

When I posted I thought it WAS the Trigger and Flash not communicating. It wasn't until the next day that I figured out it was just the Flash.

Simple fault finding skills take a while to nail down a probelm.

Sorry if my post caused you confusion.

Help! Off camera flash cord problem
Posted By Peacekeeper

You need to make sure the flash is fully on the shoe of the "off-camera TTL cord " so the pins/terminals line up.

You might want to check each terminal with a meter to make sure there are no broken wires inside the cord. i.e put the meter between the matching pins on each end of the cord.

Bracket, the reason the flash is firing is it is shorting out the pins on the shoe on the bracket. you might want to look at slipping in a piece of thin tape or film between the shoe and the bracket, this should stop the terminals touching the metal bracket plate.

SIGMA EF 500 DG - good for pentax k10d?

I have the EF500 DG ST not the Super. It had to be re-chipped to work with the K10 and subsequntly works on the K20 as well.

If it works on the K20 it will work on the K10.

The Later versionsof the EF500 that were produced at the same time or after the K10 was produced WILL work wothout re-chipping.

Best way to find out is to test it before you buy.

what to buy for radio sync ?

The radio triggers simply fire the flash, so ANY flash will work with them, with in reason.

I just bought a particular cheapo brand 1 x TX and 3 x RX for under $70 delivered.

Tetra (PT-04 II) Speedlight /Studio Flash Trigger Set

I went with that brand because it advertised to work with old Higher voltage flashes.
"Flash compatible: for flash with 3-400v "

I have got three older Sunpak flashes from the pawnbrokers for a few bucks and they all work with the triggers no problems.

Radio Trigger and AF540FGZ - Not working

Maybe I am confused.

I was of the understanding the trigger voltage was in the flash itself and the camera hotshoe/ trigger hotshoe simply provided the closed switch to activate it.

The danger being that the high flash voltage would go through the cameras circuitry and damage the camera.

As it stands now, my AF540FGZ on my K10D and K20D only works when I use it wirelessly (No triggers involved). It will not fire when mounted on camera except in P-TTL mode and even then is underexposes like it is out of sync with the camera. Like a Sigma flash that needed re-chipping to work with the new K10D when it came out.

Looks like my AF540FGZ is going in for repairs.

It is not the triggers.... They are working fine and dandy :)

Radio Trigger and AF540FGZ - Not working

I just purchased a Radio trigger with 3 receivers on eBay.

Tetra (PT-04 II) Speedlight /Studio Flash Trigger Set

It has both hot shoe and PC Socket connections. It fires my Sigma EF500 ST DG (Hot shoe), my little Sunpack auto 140 flash (Hot shoe and PC Socket) and my Sunpack Auto zoom 3000 (PC Socket only).

Will not fire my Pentax AF540FGZ using Hot shoe (no PC Socket).

Anyone can tell me what I need to do to get the 540 to fire?

The Sigma is re-chipped to work on my K20D and K10D and as you know has the same contacts as the 540.

I have looked at the hot shoe plate on 540 to see if shorting out is a possible cause. The most forward pin, the one adjacent to the locking pin is the same as the outside connection.

I borrowed this image from pentax user forum.

Using my test meter, I was able to determine that both the top left pin and the outter part of shoe are electronically connected (shorted)

I charged the flash and attempted to trigger the flash by shorting the outer connection and the centre pin and it refused to fire.

Seems I can only get my flash to fire (On the camera) in PTTL mode, it won't fire in A mode or Manual mode. Not had this issue before.

Not sure if it is related to the triggers or if my 540 has glitched out.

Btw I forgot about voltage issues and put the little Sunpack 140 (200v trigger voltage) on my K20, it fired withot frying my K20D. Not sure I would want to try that again.

He got a nice comment from me too.

"Nothing Stand out about the K-7" WTF?????????

Weather resistant Lens and Body!!!!!!!

Guaranteed Weather resitant to -10 degrees Celsius (14 F) and the fact that Canon 5D and Nikon D3X can't go that cold and operate. They stop at 0 degrees Celsius (32 F)

Now that is OUTSTANDING. $8000 Nikon can't compete with a $1500 Pentax in cold weather, now that is value for money.

I am no writer, but I got a little carried away with the TV Commercial idea and typed up two quick ones.

I hope your imagination is as vivid as mine, especially with those two ladies in the second advert, all muddy and smiling:lol::lol::lol:

Get with the program guys. The outer shell is Hypercoloured Bakerlite :) so you can all have funky coloured cameras.

The MkII version will have a plasticine outer, so it can be molded to each persons hands and embedded with mood rings to change colour depending on your mood. :O

It has a coffee maker built in?

A hand warmer?

Little Black Book?

Seriously though, the two big things about the K10 was the weather resistance and Shake Reduction.

I am leaning towards SR.

Does someone else remember anything specific to the K10?

CM

p.s. 8fps sounds nice though

Not quite the correct aspect, it needs another 30 degrees. I have put both on the same image and resized them to match based on Hot shoe and shutter release button.

Have you tried putting the old batteries back in and seeing if the camera works???

One thing you can try is removing the batteries over night and leaving the camera set to the "ON" position, that should clear any residual current in the camera body.

If it still does not come on with the new or old batteries, then it sounds like a visit to the camera repairman is all that is left for you.
