Getting in on the act!

Spotted this little gem in a 'junk' shop, asking price was $45 ($40usd), snapped it up and went to find a battery for it. Found a battery and the light meter doesn't seem to work - good thing I bought a pair of light meters at the same time for another $10 :D

Thank you for all the memories and fun times we had together. Unfortunately it is time for us to part and a shiny new full frame Canon is currently on its way to me. I'm sorry that I could not have spent these thousands of dollars on a Pentax product, but such a product does not exist.
Please, I hope we still remain friends.

Well, seeing as I bought a Spotmatic last week I thought I'd put up a shot from the first film through it - a roll of expired Superia 400.

How do you guys scan? I have an old Canon 600f with the 35mm film insert, but the scans appear to be ridiculously grainy compared with the prints provided by the lab, is this just 'how it is'?

Those 'Q' pics are fantastic! Glad to see your F100 is showing the same CA as my FA100.

I feel I am getting a little better, been playing with my lighting setup.

Is cropping often needed for insect & bird photos?

I nearly always crop macro. At the extreme magnification of a 1:1 lens on tubes with super narrow DOF you are so focussed on the focus that the composition may miss exactly what you want. Crop for magnification, crop for composition etc

K7 - still worth getting ?

I picked up a K7 3 months ago after using a K5 for 3 years. I've since flipped the K7 as I just didn't gel with it. The K7's output as a B+W file was fantastic but I just didn't get any love from the colour shots. That said I was happy enough with it that I let my sister take it off my hands. Just grab another K5, you'll get one for not much more than $300 if you shop hard!

Jammed DA16-45mm Focus Ring Repaired!

In a similar vain to this thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/68137-da-16-45-repair.html the DA16-45 that I recently acquired took a bit of a knock to the front element (it was attached to my K5 inside camera bag and dropped about 6 inches onto a table!)

Based on MA318's post above I figured I may as well take a look inside. I have pulled a couple of lenses apart before but they have been old manual pimes. I've never been one to hold back though!

Attachment 105438

I didn't purchase a replacement focus barrel though I chose to use CA glue (super glue) to reattach the part. If this fails I'll purchase the barrel.

This lens is very simple to work on, just make sure you have a clean workspace that you can lay parts out and work carefully. The whole thing comes apart very easily.

After you remove the metal mount, there is two screws to remove the aperture lever. Under there is another 4 screws to drop the internal barrel out. inbetween the 4 screws is a pair of plates that were probably the hardest part to re-fit - I just laid the lens on its side and used tweezers.

Smallest parts are the aperture contacts and the screws.

Trickiest part was getting the correct alignment of parts to put it back together - and keep the focus ring in the correct location. Only really a couple of ways it can go though.

Anyway it is all back-together now and the lens works as it should. Might keep an extra eye out for these going cheap on ebay now lol!

Anyone else had a DA anything apart are they all pretty much the same?

Oh yeah one more thing - there is no way to tighten up the barrel so that at 16mm the 'tilt/shift' effect goes away ;)
