Canon 6D giving unexpected results?

Different sensors will produce slightly different colors, but I think in this case the exposure might be what's fooling you. The 6D shot is around half a stop brighter, I'd say.

Ben, let me make it clear, I did not have you in mind when I typed out that observation. I am not even familiar with your work, so it would not be possible for me to make any judgment based on no evidence of any sort. Just didn't want you to get the notion I was referring to you in any way.....I was not!
One other observation, and I hope this does refer to you.....If you get a set-up that makes you want to shoot more, explore more territory and find more enjoyment in doing so, it is a good step, no matter if it is a FF or a silly little Toy Camera. Finding fun and satisfaction in shooting is always more important than what you are finding it with!:D

Best Regards!:)

I personally would get the 1.4X TC and pocket the cash or use the difference and get a wide prime.
From what I hear, the 70-200mm works fabulously with the 1.4TC, with negligible loss of IQ.

How about a 300 f/4, or Sigma 100-300 f4 HSM at some point? The 100-300 is maybe a bit too much overlap with the 70-200, but if you can find one at a nice price it's fantastic optically and has fast AF.

Also, I'd suggest pursuing that Canon 20 2.8, one of my favorite lenses on Nikon FF is the little 20 f/2.8D. Rokinon 14 f/2.8 is another nice WA option (I'm told) if you don't mind MF.

Back to the OP's question about gaps, if the wide end is lacking and you want a zoom then the EF 16-35 f/4 IS L is the better corrected lens in that range from Canon. With the very good high ISO performance these days f/4 should be good enough and it's weather sealed. It's also $100 less than the DA* 16-50. BTW, If you want that 20 f/2.8 Adorama has some in their used dept. Just my $0.02.

Yes, I've read about that many times. My adapter is an eb*y cheapo which doesn't quite allow focus to infinity. But, it does allow me to use my handful of Takumars and almost all of my numerous 3rd party M42s on my 5D with no problems. (Except for my S-M-C Tak 135 f/2.5 which has lugs that don't allow the adapter to fully screw on.)
I use my Canon for portrait style shots, so I don't miss infinity.

:p That probably depends on who you ask. I'm primarily a backyard snapshooter, and in my view, no, there isn't a great deal of difference.
I chose the Auto Takumar 55 as my example because it's the smallest lens I own. ;)

Here's a 5D comparison between my Super Takumar 50 f/1.4 and my Auto Takumar 55 f/1.8
(shot on a tripod from the same position):

Super Tak 50mm f/1.4 @ f/2

Auto Tak 55 f/1.8 @ f/2

I have (sadly) a couple of ridiculously expensive film scanners. The good news is that the alignment of quality and price for scanners is at a fairly reasonable range at present.

Sorry i think its a waste of ressources.

Yes the goPro is expensive. Yes it has its own issues, Yes it has its shitty user interface (i mean like really shitty)

But The resolutions and configurations ?

I would like to see 1080p 120FPS, or even 4k in 30 or (salivating: 60 fps)
10m watertight ? Sorry i will not wear something like that for snorkeling, nope not once.
The only thing i might hope is better is the batterypower, because this can sometimes be a little bit of a bummer when it comes to the goPro

i like the design, but the specs are rather mediocre :(

I was thinking of buying my own Hero3 Black, the i saw this annoucent and was like"(wohoo lets have a look" and then the almost typical Pentax-style disappointment comes :/

Sorry if you want to compete in this segment you just have to deliver.

There is a reason while there are so many goPros and only so little other manufactures. (and its not only because of the perfect viral marketing)

Pentax forum questions for Ricoh at Photokina

Don't be silly — people don't hate Pentax.
Those who ask for an FF only wonder in perpetual dismay why on Earth a company that has virtually created global 35mm market does not finally commit, and deliver a 35mm camera with a digital sensor in it. It is even more bewildering now, when Ricoh has rewritten the history of Pentax and stated all achievements before 2011 were — pragmatically speaking — theirs.
Technically speaking, it's a piece of cake for a brain trust like Pentax to make an FF. Yet never was a direct, honest, comprehensive and logical answer given to that question of no commitment, so the matter is still open for debate. If it appears people "hate Pentax for that", it is not people's fault, but the problem with Ricoh Imaging's marketing.
All perceptions about a brand are the result of the work of its marketing — and that is the lesson number one a student of marketing learns. The lesson number two states "look at the lesson number one".

yeah but bigger potatoes taste better...

There also evidence that frying pans, knifes and plates have been designed with 1,5"x3" potatoes in mind. If you cook potatoes of smaller size you clearly doesn't leverage the full possibilities of your kitchen appliance resulting in second category untastefull meals.

While a good cooker can manage small potatoes, he will undoubtly get supperiors results with big potatoes.

The Full Frame Look

.

In your examples, the 200mm telephoto shot is almost out of scope, because when you're shooting telephoto at a distance like that it's hard not to isolate the subject with any format.

The 55mm shot of your son is very nice, but that's a perfect example of something I'd personally like better if the background was diffused just a tad more - just making it a little less distracting to the subject.

I've shot thousands of shots like that with my 50s and 55s on aps-c, and I noticed a difference when I started to shoot an 85 on FF. It's very subtle, but the picture just looks better to me in the same situations. I'm not saying anyone else has to feel the same way or value the same things as me... but it's something I noticed. It's hard to articulate when I don't have an equivalent aps-c shot to compare (vs. my 'shooting memory' that came from thousands of iterations,) and I'm in danger of eliciting a 'so what, aps-c can do the same thing' response from some folks every time I try to show an example.

Here's a difference I 'see' all the time - I've show this example quite a bit before, because it was one of the few times I happened to have both an aps-c and FF camera within reach with equivalent FL lenses on:

50m f/2.8 FF vs 35mm f/2.8 aps-c, taken from same position.

Here's a shot take with the 85 f/1.8 wide-open - now, this background has playground equipment and especially very intrusive specular highlights in the background. Any 50, 55 I would have used for this on aps-c (that I've ever shot) just wouldn't quite diffuse the background and pop the subject quite as much. Almost, maybe good enough... but not the same. Even my incredible 58 1.4 VL Nocton wouldn't have given me the same look.

You know what would have given me something close to that look? My Cosina 55 f/1.2 wide-open. But that's not nearly as sharp as the 85 f/1.8 wide-open, and the Cosina has LSD-inspired bokeh wide-open, which can be a blessed thing or a curse, depending on what you're shooting :)

Here's a mid-range telephoto shot that my 77td can come close to emulating,... but not quite, it's just a bit too short, and if I moved in I would have a little different look that I'm very used to seeing and like... but just not quite the same.

180mm f/2.8 FF = 120mm f/1.8 on aps-c

Here's a tighter-in shot where I wanted his whole body more in focus, so I stopped down one to f/4, giving me the equivalent of 120mm f/2.5 on aps-c - and at f/4, that 180 gets brutally sharp:

And here's the sort of shot where I notice it just as much as any other - just life-documentary things, unposed, taken at a typical indoor FOV from a typical distance at an aperture that gives me adequate shutter speeds for moving subjects - this take with a 50 on aps-c wouldn't have softened the surroundings quite as much, the effect would have resulted in a less special (to me) capture of my youngest on his frst birthday. It would have looked a little bit more like a very good P&S or phone cam shot, in other words.

85mm f/1.8 == 58mm f/1.2

Just day to day snaps, things 'float' more, if I want them to:

50mm f/1.8 == 33m f/1.2

And it sucks to describe this, because you'll just have to take my word for it - or understand the equivalency involved and work it out based on what you remember about your own shooting. I wish I had a comparative aps-c image for ever FF shot I've taken, somehow, magically - the point would become obvious and fully accepted.

Photographers treated like ‘dirty old men’ by cops in park

Who cares about his rights? Well, we all should. The young woman walking down the street in a short skirt and low-cut blouse might be a hooker. The 3 Hispanic boys standing on the corner may be part of a gang. The Arabic man riding in the back of the bus may be a suicide bomber. People can be a lot of nasty things but usually they are not and irrational fears and unreasonable suspicions should not make us treat each other like criminals.

Are children abducted? Sure they are. That is a sad fact of life. Bad things happen to some of our children. However, think about how many kids are not abducted and who live to adulthood in the bosoms of their families. The vast vast majority do you know. Your child is far more likely to be killed in a car accident that they are to be abducted or killed by a pedophile. They are far far more likely to be attacked or beat up by a bully from their school than they are to be attacked by a 45 year old sleazy white pervert stranger who lusts after them when he see them in a park.

But how, like you say, do you know? Well, unfortunately you don't. The young woman alluded to earlier could just think she looks good in those clothes... or she could really be a hooker. The 3 Hispanic boys could simply be waiting for a ride to work... or they could be waiting to shoot a boy in a rival gang. The Arabic man on the bus could be the CEO of an internet start-up who believes in public transportation... or he could be a terrorist on his way to blow up a synagogue. Even today though, the former is generally much more likely to be true than the latter.

How do you know that the young woman and baby shopping with an older couple who seem protective of them is really the couple's daughter and grandchild. Most likely they are and it is very unlikely that you would report the couple as potential abductors. And, even given the remote chance that the young woman could be the next Jaycee Lee Dugard, calling the cops to check them out would be completely irrational absent credible suspicion and corroborating evidence. Might Jaycee have been rescued if someone had called the cops when she was out with her abductors? Sure... but think of the thousands of grandparents that would have been unjustly confronted if everyone reported similar groups of people.

We have to decide whether we want to live in a world where we assume that every middle aged man with a camera is a pedophile, where every Muslim woman in a burqa is really a male suicide bomber and where every Hispanic boy with a tattoo is a member of MS13... or one where, while there is a remote chance that the former is a possibility, the greatest likelihood is that they are just a guy with a camera, just a modest Muslim woman and just a Hispanic boy who likes tattoos like millions of other kids.

I am not saying that we should not be vigilant. There ARE monsters out there! I AM a father and I still worry about my kids, even though they are both in their late 20s. All parents do. Life is dangerous and something is going to kill us all eventually! The best we can do is realize that and mitigate the risks we can control and accept the risks that we cannot. The alternative is to lock your kids up and never let them out of the house (where they will eventually die anyway).

DIY lens case out of PVC tubes

SEWING the FABRIC CASE pt1

8- fold a single allowance of fabric towards the wrong side at the small end of the rectangle and sew it down. Good sewers would iron all of these folds but my iron has so much ski wax on it that I didn’t want to ruin the fabric. this was done just to make the opening look good and keep the fabric from unraveling.

9- now is a good time to add the webbing for a buckle or the Velcro closure. I can’t tell you how to do it. Here I put the webbing down enough to have room for the 1” buckle and the 1” flap, plus 1”. Velcro would be near the top. Mind what side of the fabric you want on the outside.

10- place the fabric on the tube and use pins or pens to mark where you will sew the 2 sides. Keep in mind what side you want out will be in. You will turn it inside out after it is sewn.

11- sew the 2 sides at the proper allowance. Check to make sure you did not make it too tight. I started at what will be the bottom of the case and sewed to what will be the opening and flap. Once I got to the flap I stopped a little early. Then, after I shaped the flap I went back and finished this seam but added a nice webbing trim to the flap as shown.

I did this to make my mom and sister proud of me. On all the other cases I just folded it over .5cm. And if I knew no one would ever see it I would do nothing but heat the edge of the flap with a lighter after I shaped it, it is nylon, you can do that, forget how it look, 'function over fashion'.
