I want to be notified immediately and obviously, both visually and audibly when there is no SD card in the camera as soon as I turn it on. I want that warning to be prominent in both the viewfinder and the rear LCD.

Oh, it has very good details resolving power. This lens is so much more 'normal' in rendering than then the other S primes that look weird :)

I did bump the CA correction to the max in C1, but I also zero-ed the distortion instruction. It loads with +100 in C1.

It's a fantastic lens and the Z-system is blessed to have it.

Low-count optical elements, sharp in the middle, 29cm min focusing distance, cheap, light, pleasant bokeh, comes with swirly background, silent AF. Natural, beautiful vignetting at f2. BTW, I am even surprised at how good the focus by wire is too. It's a keeper :)

Alik gave it a glowing review: https://alikgriffin.com/nikon-z-40mm-f2-review-and-sample-photos/

DPR - why we're changing the way we process lens images

Maybe so. Regardless, I have them turned off. They don't do any good to the RAW image and if I want to apply lens corrections it is pretty simple to do so in Lightroom.

Thanks for the courteous counter @Mee and @Bdery. :)

I've shot many a burst so far on the K3III and never had any complaint with the buffer clearing. I'll give you that someone else who leans heavily on it might. Anyway, while I have heavy doubt that "a lot of people do this" I can imagine there's been instances here and there where completely disabling lens corrections have been done. Personally, I've not yet discovered a downside to the slim set of lens corrections applied to a Pentax raw file.

EDIT: Does it really add processing time in camera to include them in the raw? How did you identify the proper settings to manually do so later, and how long does it take compared to allowing the camera to do so in the first place?

I've seen the lows an American guitar teacher has had to go to - he fesses up, he's simultaneously ashamed and obligated - to maintain his stats, and there's an English family who own three malamutes, and they're resorting to desperate stunts to keep the clicks coming. They started off being a normal suburban family, but the other day I saw they took their cat through a McDonald's drive through. I have a feeling the mother doesn't work, Youtube is her job, her way of sharing the family expenses with the husband.

Well said, Mee.

Can I add that the YouTubers are obligated by the algorithm to churn out clickbait, on a regular basis, with less than dignified titles and thumbnails? Otherwise their content doesn't appear in our feeds.

Their hope of being paid by gear manufacturers to be Influencers hinges on their views, and I heard one guitar vlogger say that less than 100,000 subscribers is laughable to companies.

So getting attention is everything, not producing sound content.

I do not watch clickbaiters on YT. As said above, they are full of poo and I do not want to fund their next airplane.

Not ignoring YT totally, there are some nice guys there, Kobie for example.

BTW - I always scratch my head when someone "famous" on YT is discussed and I try to figure out who this guy is. Bonus of living in Central Europe :D

Ah YouTube, the platform for nuanced debate. This will say all kinds of things like this, it gets clicks. It is unfortunate as this kind of click bait does drive consumer thought.

Apologies if this has been previously posted – I did a quick search and didn't see anything.

On October 26 Adobe will be releasing Lightroom and Camera Raw with new masking features that seem pretty impressive from what I have read. Here is a link to an Adobe blog post that discusses the new features. There is a short video in the post.

This is true. I'm more after MILC with very good video specs but my absolute top is around 3000€(body). It would be a benefit if my K-mount lenses would be possible to be had around(this seems to be where monster adapter step in picture). I'll see when next gen Z come out. There are plenty alternatives now for what I want/need.

The 70-180 is f2.8 and not much heavier than the 70-210 f4 (not like my 2Kg Pentax 70-200 2.8), so yes, if I was you I'd still prefer the 70-180 2.8 .

Clear. Now, I'd be on the edge to select a camera just because Tamron makes the lenses for it, because the Tamron are probably 95% as good as the OEM, but 30% to 50% cheaper, so I'd easily trade the 5% quality for the lower price.

Thanks, I've just downloaded it :)

Camera support is impressive... unlike a lot of software it supports every one of my Pentax and K-mount Samsung cameras, and my Hasselblad HV. Nice :)

EDIT: There's no need to go to slickdeals or any other third party... Skylum has a direct link:

I disagree on this. The job of the camera is to record what's in front of the lens, the job of the photographer is to present non-boring image in front of the lens. I've never seen lens fringing changes a picture from boring to interesting. I don't see why it's a problem to have the lens corrected on raw data instead of requiring the user to do correction with post processing software.

I don't see Nikon Z as negative. I have a significant investment in the K mount so I'm nowhere near to switch, but I just find that the Nikon Z FF offering right now is better than Pentax FF offering. There is more choice of Nikon Z lenses than Pentax K, the Z primes are modern and cheaper than Pentax K primes, and the "old" Nikon Z bodies are more advanced that K1II. Nikon is now the value brand that Pentax used to be. The recent introduction of the DFA21 ltd is interesting, it cost 1500 euro, both Nikon 20 1.8 and Sony 20 f1.8 cost under 1000, and most other Z f1.8 primes are also under 800 Euro. Of course I don't like the cheap plastic build of Nikon Z lenses, but the image quality is there, so if I only care about image results Nikon is a good choice right now.

Upcoming Nikon Z5

I'm thinking my next lens will be Laowa 85/5.6 macro, it is tiny :) . My only macro is Pentax FA100/2.8 and it's a TANK with K&F adapter or with K-1.. So glad I didn't buy Laowa 100/2.8.. I was having trouble deciding which mount to get..

Z5 with the 85/5.6 should make fun macro setup and lighting will be a piece of cake. Should be cheaper than the 100 also. :)

Thanks! :)

A couple more.. These are more tweaked versions with Exposure X6:

Same lens wide open.

Damn.. I bought Z5 to play with vintage lenses.. I even sold a bunch of less relevant (for me) Pentax lenses to finance 14-30 f4 Z lens a month or so ago.. love it! :o :) . It´s even smaller than Sigma 10-20/3.5 for aps-c I used to own :) . Z system is making me harder and harder to grab the K-1 instead for photo outing.. Well K-1 is still the landscape king in my book. So not selling. :)
