I know this pain, because I bought it from the States... it was too special a chance to give up! Just looking to minimize my losses now.
Much thanks! I hope you are both correct; this lens deserves to be used lots.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Pentax A* 85mm f1.4 Asking Price
950.00 USD Item Location
Alberta (Canada) Item Description
I obtained this beautiful lens from this marketplace a while ago to try it out. Although it felt right at home on my MX, I do prefer my smaller portrait lenses and I can't justify keeping this one.
I'd say this lens is in very good condition. The focus and aperture rings move and click nicely, respectively. I can't spot any scratches, cleaning marks, or fungus on the glass. There are a few dozen particles of dust throughout, but that is to be expected with such a large lens, and they definitely won't show up in your images. The body of the lens has some very minor wear marks, but no significant scratches or dents at all. If you'd like additional photos, please let me know!
The purchase price includes tracked and insured shipping to Canada and the USA. If you live somewhere else, let me know and I'll calculate a shipping cost for you. I'll pick up the Paypal fee.

Fair enough! I would be comfortable with 350-400 if the lens were in good shape and I really wanted the wideangle.

I was fortunate enough to get the M 20/4 for a good price. On digital, it's alright, but the constant need for colour correction is a bit of a bother. On film, however, it is a very exciting lens. I'd echo other thoughts in the thread, however: get a 21/3.2 if you aren't worried too much about full frame.

Yet another 31 owner reporting in with nothing but satisfaction. It's a pricey lens but I have never been disappointed by it. My desire to buy new gear actually dried up considerably when I obtained it. I'd be fine if it were the only lens I had.

I used my 31/1.8 on my K-5 on a hike on the Isle of Skye with rain flying sideways at me. I didn't have a good cloth or squeegee to get the water off of my front element, which was a major bummer. As soon as I was back at the car I left the lens in my camera bag and didn't touch it until the next day. It works like a charm. This is probably one of the benefits of screw-drive AF.
Mind you, I don't advocate taking non-WR lenses into the rain on a regular basis. But I have had good luck with it on occasion.

That's fantastic! Be sure to lock up the gear in a secure place so that its condition does not deteriorate, eh?

Ha. Quite. There are versions of this rule for large format photography as well.
I have to say, I have always used only primes, and they have served me well enough. I suspect that I would be a little less handy with a zoom for lack of practice, however. Oh, and one other reason to prefer primes: they are prettier!

One point that I think has not been mentioned yet in this thread is reliability. Without a zoom motor or, in some cases, a focus motor, there is less that can go wrong with a prime. But I subscribe to all of the other reasons as well.

Lovely shot of a beauty of a camera. I recently got my hands on a 6x7 kit but the body was beyond rescue. I hope the scans yield good results!
